PORT ELIZABETH, South Africa (AFP) - A South African pensioner who had his finger mangled in a New York subway, is suing the city's transit authority for ten million dollars.

An "extremely rude" conductor allegedly slammed a train window shut on the hand of Pieter Swanepoel, 62, shearing off the tip of his forefinger.

Swanepoel's wife, Sheila, speaking from their home in Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape province, recalled the incident, which occurred while the couple was on holiday in December last year.

Firstly, why were his hands out of the window in the first place? I know this wouldn't happen in the London underground. And how could this window shear off the tip of his finger? Are the windows in the subway razor sharp? wacko.gif

I do sympathise though. I know all too well what it feels like to have your fingers mashed! screama.gif Wish I got the option to sue for $10 million. whistling.gif

I sympathise for him as well, and the pain and medical expenses must be taken into consideration. Rude behaviour is all too common, unfortunately.

But for $10 million??! Thats more money than I make in a whole year grin2.gif

I'm certain that it's so high, so that the transit authority will settle out of court for a reduced, yet still substantial, amount
