Hi,

Just a question, are there any people here who try to run Linux, or are already running Linux?

I want to use it because I can't stand Windows XP anymore... I regularly had crashes and then I had to format the whole harddisk so I also had to reinstall WIndows ZP, but now I can't activate my version anymore, according to windows I have activated my windows to often wacko.gif blink.gif What a bullshit!

Odin,

I've had Linux installed on my PC in the past, with a dual boot Linux/Windows. Which Linux distribution are you planning on using ?

SaRuMaN is right, dual boot is the way to go. Like it or not, Windows is just too standard to entirely not use. As for the installation issue, there is rumour of a program that might help you out...

For Linux, check this out: http://www.linuxlots.com/~jam/guide1.html

I have used three or four distributions and I would say that I was quite happy with Slackware, but Corel was my favourite because it was a complete package. It was also easy to install, something that Slackware is not. Having said that, Corel jumped ship from Linux and that isn't really an option anymore. Perhaps you could find an old distribution somewhere though.

Red Hat seems to be the way most people go for the first time user. That is one distribution that I have not used, but I understand it is failry simple for first time users but for those who want more - well, perhaps they tend towards Debian.

But Linux is free - try 'em all!

SaRuMaN,

I have the SuSE version and I want to use the Dual boot, if windows isn't going to stop working after those 30 days you can use it without activating.. Or I have to cantact them, I might want to do that rolleyes.gif .

Space Moose,

I have chosen the SuSE version because it is said that they got the best version for beginners, their installation procedure is very clear and simple. But I already encountered a problem, I had the same with Windows. The problem is that both OS couldn't detect my Harddisk. I have a driver disk that I can use with Windows XP, but no disk for Linux.. so installing is very hard when no harddisk is found.. I e-mailes linux for that problem and because they don't work on sunday's I am looking forward to tomorrow for a reply grin2.gif
