I'm almost scared to post this. I don't want to get heckled, but here's my story anyway. Last summer my family and I went on vacation in St. Augustine, FL. The first night, my husband and I went on the cheesy ghost tour. The one with on the trolley with the guide majoring in Drama. You probably get the gist. Anyway, while going by the Lightner Museum, she talked about the history of the place. It used to be the Casa Monica Hotel, and it had the largest indoor swimming pool at that time. Supposedly, a little girl fell into the pool and drowned. According to the drama queen, if you stand in the middle of the pool (now antique shops and a restaurant), close your eyes and concentrate, you can hear splashes. Then look up, and you'll see her floating above your head.

Well, on our last day there, we went to the museum. My mother-in-law wanted to see the Tiffany? collection. Every floor we went on I felt almost claustrophobic. My son kept wanting to leave (he was 4 at the time). I didn't particularly want to stay, either. We finally got to the top floor (the old ballroom that looks out over the pool). My son, who'd been clinging to me the whole time suddenly ran to his dad. Dad asked him what was wrong, and he said, "Mommy's scaring me". DH asked what I did and I told him, nothing. Then my son pointed to me and loudly said, "That little girl is scaring me". Now, there were only 6 people up there including my family. The other two were full grown men. Neither my husband nor myself had mentioned anything about this girl to or around my son. DH could only shake his head.

My son and I ended up going back outside to wait on hubby and mom. When they came out, my husband wanted to go back in the front to see the antique shops. He asked if I was going to try to see the little girl. I said, "Yeah, of course". I stood in the middle of the pool while the rest of my family walked around. Luckily, there wasn't anyone else around to see my fruityness other than a waitress setting up tables. So, I close my eyes and concentrate. Next thing I recall is hearing my husband to my left saying, "My wife, the medium". I turn to look at him and make a face. I felt extremely tired and washed out. Then, we left. On the way back to the inn, my MIL asked me who I'd been talking to. I asked her what she was talking about. She said I was swaying? and mumbling for about five minutes. I said that I don't have very good balance while standing with eyes closed and mentioned that I had said ONCE, "I'm not hearing anything". She said "No, you were swaying so much I was afraid you'd fall, and you were muttering the whole time". I felt like I was only standing there for a minute at the most.

My husband suggested maybe the "little girl" who my son thought was so fond of me had something to do with it. Whatever, this really freaked me out, and it still does. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may have happened?
Sorry to be so lengthy.

St. Augustine

So, no ideas as to what happened to me?

But just for fun, if you go, here's what we did.

My husband wanted to stay at the haunted inn. The St. Francis Inn is the oldest running B&B in St. Augustine. You can do a google search for it. They have a website. Let me tell you, some weird stuff happened. We actually stayed at the annex across the street. The first night, my hubby and I went on the ghost tour. My MIL stayed at the inn with my son. They were laying on the sleeper sofa, he was sleeping, she was reading. Apparently, he sat bolt upright in bed, grabbed her arm, pointed at the corner, and screamed bloody murder for about a minute. Then he stopped, layed back down and went back to sleep. This is not a normal thing for him. As soon as we got back, she jumped up and took off to the porch to smoke a cigarette. It really upset her.

The annex isn't supposed to be haunted, but a couple of days later, she and I were sitting on the porch (we had a suite upstairs) and the carriage ride stopped out front. He was telling his passengers about the ghost of the maid? who was supposed to haunt the inn (Lily). Then he mentioned she was buried under where the annex is now. Freaky.

Another night, Hubby and I were laying in bed. The door to the living room was almost closed, but not all the way. We were talking and the door opened nearly all the way. He asked if I saw that and I said I did. Then, it closed back the way we had it to begin with. I made him get up to see if it was Nick or MIL. He got up to check and they were both asleep. I asked him if maybe the A/C turning on could've done it. He pointed out that this was the only time that had happened. He messed with this door every which way. Now, this was an old door in an old door frame. It didn't move very well. You have to apply pressure. Needless to say, we didn't fool around at all that night. wink2.gif

We went to see the fort. I tried to take pictures inside, but my camera kept fruiting out. I wasn't standing anywhere near anyone, but it kept saying, "Move Back", like I was too close to something to take a picture. I didn't like the fort. Bad vibes. We also went inside the old jail on the ghost tour (at night), and when we were in the cell block? I kept feeling pressure around my throat. I was glad to get out of there. We also went in the old Spanish Hospital, and Hubby actually caught something on tape.

When I was younger, about 12, my mom, sister (she was 6), and I visited St. Augustine. We are all sensitive, and we couldn't hardly stand to be in any of the historic places. We'd go in and turn around and leave. My husband says we're witches. We can read each others minds and feelings. It's strange. Now he says I've passed on our "witchiness" to my son. original.gif

Please, any suggestions.

What a great encounter...were you frightened at all?

It sounds like you may already have a good idea of what happened. You say that you and other members of your family are sensitive. If you were mumbling perhaps you were in contact with a spirit? Or a spirit was trying to communicate through you? Do you remember anything at all? What do YOU think happened? It's very intriguing.

I'm kinda scared whatever it was was using my body? Well, I did some "research" on the net and everything I've seen says that a spirit can't enter your body unless you invite it. I certainly didn't, but on the other hand, maybe I did. This confused me even more. I was trying to see the little girl, but it was just a lark. I wasn't really scared as much as confused, and later felt violated almost, thinking what I was thinking. Right after my husband "woke me up" I was extremely tired and kind of dizzy, like my blood sugar was low (it wasn't). What's more, as soon as we left, I started feeling better.

I was definately more scared at the old jail.

I don't KNOW for sure what happened. I'm just concerned that that it COULD happen. I mean, do I need to worry about walking around at the mall and something jumping into me and making me buy an awful lime green sweatsuit? ohmy.gif Seriously, it unnerves me that something like this could happen (not necessarily the sweatsuit scenario). Is this possible? Did I fall asleep on my feet? What? Help me out here.

And no, I don't remember mumbling. I remember closing my eyes, concentrating, saying "I'm not hearing anything" (once). Then my husband was talking to me. Also, he wasn't close enough to understand what I was saying, just close enough to hear me talking. Helpful, right?
