Obviously,It's very difficult what to make of them but for those who've had them, they would usually describe them as vivid and powerful vehicles for a belief in the afterlife.
Mine go as follows: This one actually came before the death of my grandfather who passed on at the ripe old age of 94. Some weeks beofre my faher and I had visited his father who was spening his last days under care at the hospital. Having suffered a stroke, the old fella was prone to wandering about so they had to keep him tied to a chair so he wouldn't wander off. Grampy actually didn't remember exactly who I was and confused me with my older brother but aside from that was fairly lucid. About a week later, I had a very vivid dream in which he came to me, hugged me and told me not to worry that He was in a good place now. A week later he died. Oddly he was not the huggy type of grandfather although pleasant enough.
The 2nd dream followed several months after the suicide of a close friend "Gerald". This dream came after many dreams in which it would seem he would fail to make contact. They usually involved me seeing him somewhere in the street where it dawns on me that he was dead. this realisation would prompt me to say "but you're dead "or something and that would make him suddenly vanish ( in one dream he disintegrated like black paper ashes and blew away). Anyway, one night I dreamed he knocked at my front door ( odd because everyone goes to the side door) and i stepped out to speak with him. he told me it extremely difficult to see me but that he was finally able to make the journey. He said he that everything was alright where he was but that he was not allowed to talk of it. We embraced and a great feeling of peace enveloped me and although I can't remember specific details we sat and talked for some time enjoying each other's company after which he left.
The dream was very powerful and prompted me to write his sisters to tell them of it. All very easy to explain away I know, but nonetheless it seems to clutch at the roots of faith.
Thoughts anyone?

I am very sorry to hear about the deaths of your grandpa and of gerald
I have read many instances of people saying goodbye to others in their dreams moments before they die. Dreams seem to be a mouthpiece for the dead. Interesting.

I dream of my dead relatives from time to time. Every now and then I have a dream in which I am sitting around my kitchen table with all of them. This includes my paternal grandparents, my maternal grandparents, my uncle (my dad's brother) and 2 other uncles (my mom's brothers). All of these people meant a lot to me in life. I loved them all (still love them), so when I have these dreams they are very happy, a lovely and welcomed reunion. In these dreams we all chat about anything and everything. On the day after one of those dreams I feel so close to my relatives again, almost as though they were really alive and really did come to spend time with me. I love these dreams.
I was especially close to my maternal grandmother. She was like a second mother to me and I loved her dearly. She was a very wise, very intelligent lady too. Since she died in 1998, she has visited me in my dreams whenever I am in dire need of guidance or advice. In these dreams she tells me what she thinks I need to do. After one of these dreams I really feel as though I have been with her. Some people would like to say it is my own subconscious speaking to me in my dreams in the form of my grandmother. Personally, I feel that she really is communicating with me, helping me even after death.

When I was in highschool I dated a guy who was a "bad boy". I was in 9th grade and he had just graduated the year before. We were attached at the hip and I kept it from my dad. When my dad met him he liked him until I snuck out of the house and got caught. Then I was no longer allowed to see him because he was "trouble". Of course, that didn't stop me.
When my father died of cancer I had to move out of state to live with my mother. I didn't see the boyfriend for about 2 years but we kept in touch by writing to each other almost every week and occasionally talking on the phone.
When I turned 18 I moved back to California and we lived together for 2 years. One night I had a dream that my father came to me and looked at my boyfriend and smiled. Then he nodded his head in approval and the dream ended.
The next day my boyfriend told me that he had a dream that my father gave him a hug and told him it was ok. It seemed to us that my dad decided he was an ok guy after all.

I feel certain that loved one do visit with us in our dreams. I believe it's the easiest way for them to reach us. It all takes place on the astral plane, but we remember it as a dream.
