do ghost even know there dead i mean if they had some unfinished task that they were about to do b4 they died and they come back to do that?i just thought it sounded intresting how bout you guys?

Thats a good question. I for one think they know they are dead, but yet they still come from another dimension into our world just to scare people, haunt places, and finish what they didnt before they died. But for me, I've never seen a ghost before, I've only seen Ghosts on TV. I believe they are real, even though this topic doesnt talk about wheter we believe in them or not. I live over here in Southern Cal, and theres this place by a beach where a ship is on land over rocks. The ships name is Queen Mary and I think it got out of commission quite a long time ago. ANyways, heres the thing. I've heard many times and many stories saying that the Engine Room and the Cafeteria are home to many of the workers who worked there but are currently dead. Meaning theres Ghosts lurking around those 2 areas of the ship. Sry guys. I know my story wasnt about GHosts knowing they are dead or not. Just thought I would let u in on a place thats haunted with ghosts.

some people say that ghosts go about their business like they would when they were alive, and when they'd see us, they'd think we are the ghosts haunting them....kinda like what happened in The Others.

I think they know that their physical body is dead.

But they also know that they're still alive because they're still thinking, seeing, hearing, etc. I believe that some are a bit confused by that situation.

I think some do, and some don't.

I think that if ghosts were real, that some may just torment others that are living. But I also think that some try and complete some unfinished business

I believe that ghosts know they are dead. It's just strange when we witness them or hear them because is it hard for them to contact us most of the time. The reasons they come back is to try and contact loved ones or because they are lonely, or to try and protect the place they reside. Im sure there are many other reasons, but these are just my theories.

Perhaps we are the ghosts or worse yet those haunting little pieces of spyware on the computers of the "real" world.

I believe they are stuck in to world between the living and the dead. They do not know to which one they belong.

some finish things like I know of a woman who was walking down the bridge in her wedding dress away from the church she was being wed at. She was ran over at the bridge. To this very day you see her walking that bridge. Dead serious...no pun intended.

I think they know thy're dead.. but thy're not ready to leave because they are attached to something.. sometimes we need to let them know that they are just hurting themselves and love one by not moving on. Which i don't believe "moving" on means going anywhere.. but more like just simply excepting the next stage of life.. leaving behind their physical stage.

in the afterlife they should hand out guide books to ghosts! so they know their dead and they know how to move on!

I do not think most know they are dead. I think that they keep living like a record that keeps playing over and over again.

I think some can manage to get strong enough to enteract with the living. That is a really good question, you would think if they knew enough to cause trouble then they would know they are dead. I have seen people tell the ghost "You are dead go home".

One thing to consider is that evil or dark spirits may be reluctant to move on in the fear of a final judgement. After all, which would you rather do , stick around and torment the living or move on to purgatory or hell if one does exist?

That is very true! A movie I saw with Robin Williams about his wife committing suicide and she did not know she was dead. I thought hat was a really good movie.

It talked about being in limbo and such. She was in hell though, but she did not know she was dead. I forgot the name of it but it had Cuba Godding JR. in it as well.

I think that ghosts are aware of us as in most ghost pictures the ghostly figure is facing the photographer. Obviously some pics are blatant fakes, I know.

The above point is interesting and I agree that ghosts are trying to contact us or protect us. But protect us from what? It makes me wonder what we can't see with our own eyes, and maybe we're surrounded by spirits or prescences all the time, some of which want to cause harm.

I've posted this before but I'll say it again here, I also believe that places where there has been a tradgedy, such as murders for example, keep the spirits of those who lost their lives there, in some sort of evil deadalive limbo prison (sorry, I couldn't think of a better name).
