Although there is not much published regarding this extraordinary event, what we do know is that during the summer of 1973, the residents of New Jersey's Newton-Lafayette area were plagued by a spate of sightings involving what witnesses described as a large, humanoid alligator.

The journalists who covered the story compared the events to an enduring, regional Native American legend about a giant, man-sized fish that could never be caught. To most investigators, however, the links between a bipedal LIZARD MAN and a gigantic fish seem to be coincidental at best.

What makes this case even more extraordinary was the public acknowledgement of this creature's existence by a state employee. The statement came in 1977, when New York State Conservation Naturalist, Alfred Hulstruck reported that the state's Southern tier was the apparent home of "a scaled, man-like creature (which) appears at dusk from the red, algae-ridden waters to forage among the fern and moss covered uplands." So far this is the only "official" comment we have accrued regarding this animal.

Not to be confused with THE NEW JERSEY GATOR-MAN, these aberrations of nature are Hybrid Beasts in the truest sense. Found most often in the Florida Everglades, reports of these creatures date back to the mid-1700's and have emerged from almost every large swampland in the American southeast. This fact would seem to coincide with the popular theory - shared by numerous cryptozoologists - regarding the migratory nature of these animals.

Described as being approximately 5-feet long, with a child-sized torso which tapers off into a long, muscular tail - complete with stubby, gator-like legs - this creature seems to represent a physical bridge between the reptilian and mammalian genus. The body of this aquatic-hominid is said to be covered with a thin sheen of greenish scales, with webbing between its toes and fingers, and a mouth full of what has been described as "razor-sharp" teeth.

Perhaps the most frightening (not to mention fascinating) aspects of these creatures is their apparent ability to reason. Traveling in small, aboriginal tribes these creatures have allegedly developed a rudimentary language based on howls and grunts, and have even mastered the use of basic tools.

Though many investigators consider the "gatormen" legends to be more a product of modern myth, than that of physical evidence, most would agree that the thought of encountering one of these creatures in their natural habitat would be unappetizing at best.

Wasn't this one a confirmed fake? I read in a book that it was a monkey torso and a gator body. If it wasn't fake..it would be cool! Like that two-headed snake..but that's another story.
Ruby
It kinda looks like that Fiji mermaid from Ripley's Believe it or Not. thumbsup.gif
Tia

It does look pretty cool. I wonder what sort of intellegence it has?

The upper torso is a monkey's and the lower a fish or gator. They are supposed to be mermaids, or gator boys. They are made only for commercial purposes.
The Skeptic Eric Raven
No one should look at that pic as real. Come on.

I had heard it was debunked, but it was in with the article. i cant seem to find anything more on google about it, but apparently people saw these things.

Animal X recently did an episode on reptillians. Were either of these things mentioned?

And it would be really, really helpful if someone could come up with information on whether or not the gatorboys are a "real" cryptid, or just a Jenny Haniver with a clever story.
openmind1963
