I think there's a definite line between sex and friendship; if you're friends with someone, someone you just hang out with, then I at least don't think of them in that way, it just never occurs to you. I've always had more female friends than male friends, and while looking back i realise that I probably did at least have a crush on them, i never thought about it in those terms at the time. maybe that's just me; but that's how it was for me. But certainly, if a sexual relationship had been involved, it would have changed things completely, so i do agree with 101's point.

Why do you feel this is the right thing to be doing? I will try and state my point again, as blunt as I can possibly put it:
There is more to life than sex.You may have certain feelings, your hormones may try and get the best of you, you may see members of the opposite sex with bodies you feel drawn to, but does this justify anything you are doing? You don't have to succumb to your primal need to do this; can't finding the love of another beyond the passion of the flesh be the ultimate experience? Isn't love
more than the passion of the flesh?

I guess they are different, even though they shouldn't be as different as they are. Sexdrive seems to do more bad than good. Besides, why must people only think of this topic? I find philosophy to be much more interesting than letting my mind ponder over members of the opposite sex day in and day out; instead of focusing on one topic you can focus on the broad, and in doing so you will learn more about the one topic.

I think sex is something that should be shared between two people who are in love. If they are in love then why do they absolutely have to get married? What if they can't?
Life doesn't revolve around sex, but sex shouldn't be viewed as some "oh my dear gawd, don't speak anymore of it!!" topic.

True but that is why you play it safe and choose someone special who really means something to you. You may later find that the person you shared that with wasn't meant to be the love of your life but if it felt right at the time and you did it in the name of love, I see nothing wrong with that.

Well, for that reason alone, even without everything else I mentioned, it's a good enough reason not to get that involved in any relationship unless it's legal. The truth is, most relationships won't be permanent, and holding until one comes along that is is worth it, solely being you don't lose anything in the process. You walk out and you know you haven't lost a thing.
Mind you, I don't think sex is soly for reproduction, and for people trying to say that it is according to the Bible, it doesn't say that anywhere. When Adam and Eve were getting it on naked in Eden they didn't reproduce nothing lol. God made sex, and it was ment to be enjoyed, I just would personally like to enjoy it to the full extent with a permanent partner, legally, i.e. marriage, which is more a personal view than anything. In fact, nowhere in the Bible does it actually SAY you HAVE to be married to have sex. There was, initially no legal ceremoning for marriage, when someone lived together they were 'amrried', Solomon had lik 700 wives and 300 concubines, so erm, they went a little overboard I'd say lol. That and, divorce wasn't just accepted then, it was common practice, even now Jdaism allows divorce, which makes me wonder if that text where Jesus says you can't divorce (bar lewd conduct which they've now added) wasn't meddled with and changed. Jesus was here to liberate the Jews from the rules and rituals they'd bound themselves with, and forgotten about the real meaning of God in the process, so, why would He say that? I think I'm going to make a new post about that now.

Ashley, you keep using the terms legally and illegally when discussing premarital sex. As far as I know, it is not a crime to engage in intercourse outside of marriage, barring of course instances of rape, or when one partner is incapable of giving consent. Am I to infer that you believe that it is, or should be a criminal act? Or ar you saying that it is against gods laws?

Erm, maybe you're misunderstanding me. Legally is legally married the legal act of matrimony under the law, which is not, and I never said it was, legally bound to sex. Throughout my post, I never once used the term 'illegally'. Please re-read.

Sex is a natural part of human nature; so if we're thinking about human nature, we've got to consider it?
besides, why should we have to separate 'higher thought's from the 'desires of the flesh'? You could argue that being human, we're privileged/unlucky enough to be able to give thought to both.
Sex is a natural human response to the opposite sex. I mean we are like animals. If we didn't have sex we would be miserable. It is just doing it responsibly and with the right person.

You must be at a misunderstanding because I never thought or even notioned that I thought this was about adultry, pornography and other things indirectly relating to sex.
My point was, is that there is more to life [And love too] than just finding someone you enjoy having sex with. My other point is that society is too in-your-face and at the same time private about it. Some video games promote it, and yet other things demote it.
In a thread in the Bizarre section I posted a reply about somebody I know who has a willing, sexually active nine year old sister. Things like this should not be going on. One example is why can't people see that their education is important and instead of seeing school as a place to be social and find a partner, why not actually
learn and get somewhere in life other than a bed, sofa, or whatever other outrageous mean you ponder.

So raven why the bird that represents death?
I've had many ask me this question, and although this isn't the real thread to be talking about it in, you want to know.
The common image of the raven and the crow, being birds of "death" or the "undead" were born during the massive outbreak of the plague, where ravens or crows would be seen flocking over newly dead corpses, feasting.
I choose the raven because of it's intelligence [The raven is more intelligent than a dog] as well as it's playful, fun nature. I also like the way they look and sound. When I see one [There must be hundreds of them around my home] I always feel happy, and connected to them like some sort of supernatural bond.
Getting this more back on topic, I also agree with the raven's way of life: Have companionship, make every day tasks enjoyable, and always leave yourself time to relax and also have fun.
Now, did that question relate to anything sexual?
Um no but it is still a must know.....Lol.

JPMD1,
I think you are taking what I'm saying entirely out of context. I never said anything in my post was 'illegal'. I used the term legal to reword marriage. Marriage is legal matrimony, it's a play on words, don't read things on it that aren't there. I also said it was MY personal choice and it was NOT based soley on religious basis as there really ISN'T any religious basis as nowhere does it say sex HAS to be tied to marriage.
I follow rules of a Biblical nature ONLY if they are directly textually recorded as being said by God/Jesus. I don't follow man-made rules. My reasons for not personally wanting to get involved wth sex before marriage have been outlined (and there are many) in my original post.
Mr Slayer
Jun 4 2005, 06:43 AM
Jeez...
Of course it is right to have sex before marriage! The marriage is only a religious formality which really has nothing to do with real love!
I don't need an "approval" from the church to make love to my girlfriend, it's ridiculous. If both sides want It, then why should an spiritual institution interfere with my personal life?
And for all you christians out there who probably disagree with me; by making pre-marriage love to my girlfriend, how EXACTLY am I disrespecting your god?
And if you put in the question of sexual restrain (which I assume it's all about), that is also ridiculous. Why should I restrain myself, really? It's only a matter of control. Nothing else. Church wants to control you.
How can it be allowed for someone else to judge me (and probably proclaim me as promiscuous or alike) on sexual and religious basis?
I can manage my own life AND to be a good human being without god and religion trying to puppetmaster me, thank you.

This is from an article I think would be useful for the Christians on this forum and for the curious non-believers. As humans we are above animals, and more is expected of us.
http://www.gotquestions.org/sex-before-marriage.html"Along with all other kinds of sexual immorality, sex before marriage / premarital sex is repeatedly condemned in Scripture (Acts 15:20; Romans 1:29; 1 Corinthians 5:1; 6:13,18; 7:2; 10:8; 12:21; Galatians 5:19; Ephesians 5:3; Colossians 3:5; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; Jude 7). The Bible promotes abstinence before marriage. Sex before marriage is just as wrong as adultery and other forms of sexual immorality, because they all involve having sex with someone you are not married to. Sex between a husband and his wife is the only form of sexual relations that God approves of (Hebrews 13:4)."
"Far too often we focus on the “recreation” aspect of sex without recognizing the “re-creation” aspect. Yes, sex is pleasurable. God designed it that way. He wants men and women to enjoy sexual activity (within the confines of marriage). However, the primary purpose of sex is not pleasure, but rather reproduction. God does not outlaw premarital sex to rob us of pleasure, but to protect us from unwanted pregnancies and children born to parents who do not want them or are not prepared for them. Imagine how much better our world would be if God’s pattern for sex was followed: fewer sexually transmitted diseases, fewer un-wed mothers, fewer unwanted pregnancies, fewer abortions, etc. Abstinence is God’s only policy when it comes to sex before marriage. Abstinence saves lives, protects babies, gives sexual relations the proper value, and most importantly honors God."
As someone stated earlier, nothing stops us from having sex. However, if someone wants to honor God, and not themselves, then they will stop themselves from having sex outside of marriage. If honoring God is our goal, then yes, we should feel guilty of our wrong doings. Our conscious keeps us in check.

Where exactly (state the quotes) does it SPECIFICALLY say sex before marriage is not allowed? While as I've said above I don't believe in nor practice sex before marriage, it's for personal reasons outside of religion as I've yet to actually find ANYTHING which specifically says you can't do so (like I've also said, Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines. You don't marry concubines).
Of course, on the other side of this, which no one ever brings up is the fact that men have no physical consequences (except for may diseases) to the amount of sexual partners they have. A woman does, and it's usually the man who pressures a woman for sex. And this has nothing to do with religion or 'religious control', it's a fact of life.
Paranoid Android
Jun 10 2005, 06:50 AM
This is a culturally loaded question (even without getting religion involved).
If you ask this question in ten years time you'll get a completely different response to that which you're getting now, to that which you would have received ten years ago, twenty years ago, thirty years ago. Heck, it would be inappropriate to even ask this question in the first place thirty years ago.
Not to mention the different answers you'd get asking people in America, Australia, England, South Africa, Asia, the Middle East etc.
Or the different answer's you would get from a person in a lower class background, to a middle class or higher class background.
When answers are so culturually, socially and economically motivated then all that is left is ones own opinion. In the end we all live by our opinions and beliefs, and it must be what drives our choices - anything else and we are not true to ourselves.
Personally then, I choose to believe that sex before marriage is wrong on the basis of the BIble (the Bible is the Word of God, thus God says that it is wrong). Importantly though, what constitutes being married? Is it a marriage certificate issued by the church? Obviously not! It is God's wish that a man and woman will leave their parents and be joined as one flesh. Marriage is a commitment from one partner to the other to be forever joined as man and wife. Thus any commitment made in private is just as much a valid union in the eyes of God.
Until next time all,
