So all I'm asking you to do is to live your life for what you want it to be. If you really love God and want to be with him..... go ahead... but if you only believe because you don't want to burn in hell, don't waste your time....

If I had a euro for everytime I have heard this. People aren't religious just because they are scared of hell. Common misconception.

Hey I love your avatar Amalqamut. No wonder you are a deity.

I am not religious, but I admire Gothic cathedrals, Bach Cantatas, and stained glass windows. Even though not religious, I used to attend the First Church at Oberlin when I was an undergraduate just because of the wonderful music, which could put me in a very exalted and holy mood. The preacher did not give sermons; he gave philosophical essays in spoken words, dialogues really. I have a feeling the religious are being unfairly trampled in this thread. It was religion which pulled the West out of the Dark Ages. Of course, there is just as much on the negative side. Crusades. Inquisitions. The Index of Prohibited
Books.

What we have today is actually similar. We have the Index of Prohibited Sciences, such as Psychical Research, which has plenty of good scientific evidence of life after death.

We don't need religion, but we need something. Our age of Heroic Materialism produces nothing uplifting. While we enjoy our toys, some of those toys (cars for example) are destroying the ecology of the world. Cars and coal burning power plants.
