I just wonder how it would have gone over is the parents had been Baptist and were told they had to raise their child in the Wiccan faith. Look to see this one go all the way to the State Supreme Court or Federal Appeals Court! thumbsup.gif

Darkwind, that was the short and sweet of what my wordy reply tried to communicate. thumbsup.gif tongue.gif

religion hasn't changed all that much, it's the people that follow it that change  science is a culture in your terms too, it changes as people discover more and more stuff. (TaintedDoughnuts)

Actually, the tenants of faith have evolved/changed, over the centuries, when speaking of organized or theist , faith. The first council of Nicea, for example, set the course for what is known as the King James Version of the Bible, today. (KJ Version, because he authorized it's printing.) If you know anything about the history of King J you'll realize how absurd it is that this man believed himself to possess any right to determine the content of religious text! ( In short; He was psychotic! But that's a whole other thread. wink2.gif )

The history of the Councilorganization is an interesting read as well. A few men subscribed to the notion that: Excerpt: (sic)"...The bold text in the profession of faith of the 318 fathers constitutes, according to Tanner "The additions made by the council to an underlying form of the creed"

Then there is the advent of Protestant Reformation, a revolution of faith, began in 16th century Germany by a Catholic Monk named, Martin Luther. (*Source *Link*) This reformation changed not only the text of the faith ascribed by the former Catholics, who chose to adopt the new faith of Protestantism, but also the text or bible, of the faith.

And finally, though not lastly, there is the faith of Mormonism. A deviant faith from Christianity in that Mormonism subscribes to the idea of Polytheism, (many gods), as well as Polygamy, (many spouses).

I think one would do well to study the history of religion and the various sects or denominations, so as to understand that science will always contradict what is, by definition, a collage of fable, metaphor and superstition, as well as co-option from earlier heathen belief systems. The Christian faith's old testament is derived from ancient Judaism. The new testament is compiled of the stories relative to many different faiths, well before the advent of a figure known as Jeshua. (Krishna is one relative example of the traits associated with JC).

And before the flame's begin to glow, let me be clear; that is not meant to insult any monotheistic belief system. It is, in point of fact, my short summary of theist history. The details I summarized can be researched in the annals of religious history if one cares to make the effort to do that, rather than expend the energy in stoking the flames to attack my bringing it into this discussion. original.gif

A first year law student can get this over turned. The judge is in violation of more than one of the Bill of Rights. He should be removed from the bench and disbarred. This is from a Christian, I will support the parents of this child to raise their child as they see fit. For once you have divorced parents who seemingly are on the same page when it comes to raising their son and the court steps in and does something this stupid. (twpdyp walks away shaking his head in disgust and wonders when will the maddness end?)

when will the maddness end
Perhaps it will begin to end when, as you so correctly observed, this judges actions garner his censure and disbarment. And that this just discipline against his act's is as boldly publicized in the media as was his illegal, unconstitutional decision against a family and their right to religious freedom, was. thumbsup.gif

Actually it bodes ill on a stronger point than that.

Case in point; if this bill passes, it will be the beginning of the end of freedom (which was actually accomplished with the passage of the U.S. Patriot Act et al), and the advent of "Federalism".

The language at the beginning of Bill Senate bill 520 (aka/ S520) says so in black and white;
"To limit the jurisdiction of Federal courts in certain cases and promote federalism"

Further, the bill addresses the amendment of TITLE 28 (of the United States Code) - JUDICIARY AND JUDICIAL PROCEDURE. (*Link*)

And as a "for instance", the Wicca case initially posted in this thread; if this bill was to have been enacted into law before that judges decision which violated the first amendment rights of the family and child in question, they would have no recourse in appealing to a higher court, (even the U.S. Supreme Court), to repeal the violation of their rights within that judges jurisdiction! no.gif

This proposed law , that boldly states it's intention to enact Federalism into the body of U.S. Law, should be of concern to every American who reads this thread!
It is a threat to our freedom and our future! Write your senators and representatives. Remind them that this is a country for the people and by the people and that the people will not stand for a Federalist abridgment of our freedom of religion.

And this is a matter of concern on both sides of the aisle. (Democrat & Republican), because freedom is a domain guaranteed to every American, regardless what elected officials would like to imply.

QUOTE
"The purpose of government is to rein in the rights of the people." Bill Clinton(D)

It's disgusting to me that our people are in Afghanistan and Iraq, so as to bring the people of those countries, "Freedom". And yet all the while, since 9/11, the freedom of Americans in this country have been slowly compromised unto Federalist control. Slowly eroded by the implication that we must surrender certain freedoms for the sake of "National Security"! How secure are we if we are imprisoned in fear by our elected officials in Government, who have taken the reigns to alter our most basic rights, and as such pose as the new terrorist we should watch for? Who then shall save us from ourselves, while we fight to save the world for the sake of democracy that has been abridged here at home?

QUOTE
(Sic)..."So let me make this pledge to you all.  I'm going to make respect for federalism a priority in this administration." George W. Bush ®(@ National Governors' Association Meeting, The East Room. February 2001)

The psychotic scum that commandeered those planes on 911 might have died in the process of inflicting their evil on America. However in the process, their evil has had the effect they sought in changing America and her people, forever. Now we must realize that regime change begins at home! Because the terrorists aren't fundamentalist Muslims with a death wish, invading our borders today. Their United States elected officials, wearing three piece suits, under the guise that We the People of the United States of America voted for this!

Their wrong! mad.gif

And the first step in proving that resolve, is to protest Bill S.520

Here's a little aside for you;

See that circle with the little "r" in it's center, right after GW Bush's name/link, appears in the post I made earlier?

That was applied via/the link to the white house website, after I hit "Add Reply" on this server. You won't see it in this posting, because I did not include a link beneath that same printed name. See? George W. Bush (notice no circle r?)

Interesting read:

The ® (commonly pronounced "R-in-a-circle" or "Circle-R") is a warning notice to advise the public that the mark is registered and their use provides legal benefits. This notice can be used only with registered marks. Use of a ® with any unregistered trademark may result in claims of fraud. Several other countries also use the ® symbol to indicate that a trademark or service mark is registered in their respective systems.

user posted imageDid we ever?

Really!?

If it can be declared we must compromise rights, unto one with many powers, is it really freedom of the people; by and for?

Or is that the bygone era. Whereas now it's read as: "against and to."

Yes, I have to say that the ruling to ban any parent from raising their child of the faith they choose is utterly wrong. It's alongside banning (and arresting) a kid for praying and doing the sign of the cross during a lunkbreak, and trying to force a ban on smoking by making it almost impossible to smoke in public. Your country, my country (the 'let's ban smoking' idea came from HERE first and spread like a virus to just about every other country, the 'let's ban Christmas' started in the U.S. and got here not long after, etc), are SUPPOSED to be based on FREEDOM OF CHOICE. I live in a free country, you live in a free country, so why does the law take away the rights of freedom? Why are curfews for drivers under 25 being considered here because a few people whinge about young drivers? Why why why. It doesn't matter if it's about religion, or whether you choose to smoke, you have a RIGHT TO CHOOSE, freedom of choice, and the more 'rules' that get put in of late, the more, slowly, day by day, that freedom is fading away into oblivion, into countries where a person on the street can tell you to stop smoking, or because ONE child drowns (as sad as that is) in a dam, the idea to FENCE IN every public waterway including beaches and small rivers was considered (yes, they did actually consider this stupidity here). If people don't fight for freedom now, one day, you may wake up and freedom will be a thing of the past.

Funny thing is, that if this judge said "you cannot practice Christianity" then it would still be posted here on UM, and everyone would be happy.

Bull, if he said you can't practice Christianity the President would have him hung and the Jessie Jackson christian coalition would march and start a riot.

You know that the Christian die hards would be posting in droves.
