Leeches yuck unsure.gif I hate them.

When I was a kiddy, I use to go down to our creek and hunt tadpoles. One day I caught what I thought was a baby eel, only to be told it was a leech blink.gif .

That certainly ruined my fun playing in the water, I wasn't game to put a hand or foot in there anymore. no.gif

QUOTE(PBS.org)
Derived from the Anglo-Saxon word loece, to heal (Medieval doctors called themselves leeches), the leech was used as an adjunct to bloodletting, in places too sensitive or confined for the lancet or other blood-letting instruments. Physicians applied leeches to areas such as "the gums, lips, nose, fingers," or even "the mouth of the womb," according to a medical text from 1634.

But now days.
QUOTE
Today leeches have found renewed utility in certain surgical procedures, particularly after microsurgery. Doctors sometimes find it helpful, for example, to use leeches to restore circulation to a re-attached finger, or to portions of the skin following plastic surgery.

yeah maggots are used to eat dead flesh so that major infections dont start, its really neat cause they leave the live flesh untouched, making cutting off big chunks of living and dead flesh to prevent infection unneeded.

An army buddy of mine was injured while in the jungle part of his upper leg was blown off, after days of trying to get back to an RV with minimal supplies and falling in and out of conciousness, he eventually was found and all his infected leg was ridden with maggots, they ate away all the infection and stopped gangreen from killing him...

It is really amazing what these little creatures can do. I don't know why some people cringe when you bring them up in a conversation, I think they are neat.
