Recently, on ITV 1 there was a documentary about a lost civilisation in the thick jungle forests of Cambodia, which showed the City of Angkor Wat.

This went into some detail, explaining the culture that the inhabitants may have had, and also looked into theories to explain why the culture died out.

It appeared that the downfall of the city was due to the lack of protection from the natural forest, whch they had exhausted to build the city.

It was said that flooding, famine, lack of resources and warfare would have wiped out the race, and over the years, the forest has re-covered Angkor.

They used satellite technology to scan the area and found the city stretched far further than previously thought. This place was huge, bigger than modern day New York.

This has probably been discussed before, but this interests me very much.

True, but in understanding why the culture died out, we can maybe get some idea of how other, older, cultures may have suffered similar fates original.gif

Yeah, Angkor Wat has the largest ever constructed Hindu temple, or something like that. Indian traders brought Hinduism over there, Roswell, so that explains the tablet thing.

Anyways, I'm not really surprised that the jungle reclaimed the city. Whenever he Incas cleared out rainforest to be used for farming and such, they'd have to abandon the place after about ten years because the soil is infertile, and theres tons of runoff. But anyways, Angkor Wat is an interesting city, definetly. thumbsup.gif
