because they are not a race, they are just a messed-up person. They don't fear garlic, and all that stupid BS. People do drink blood. They are just not vampires. They are people in need of a mental institution.

Heh heh... I is so screwed up! I have a much greater inclination to believe traditional and ancient vampyre legends than I would any of the more modern crap.
Oh, but Bram Stoker didn't invent fangs, there were some vampyres with fangs, although usually it was a single puncture, or a tearing wound. However Lilith hardly counts as a Vampire, and its widely understood that the "woman before Eve" was created as a means of degrading women. The story is less Biblical than the tale of the Golem, which was essentially an early cabalist tale.
However vampyres are extremely widespread, from the classic vampire. (living dead who feeds on the living) to the Varguile. (head with wings for ears that attacks the living)
But from what i have gathered from early sources, Vampires are supposed to be the an anamoly in the paranormal. While ghosts are soul only, not having a physical form. The living have a body and soul. And Demons and angels are completely spiritual, but can become corporeal. According to the theory I read, vampires are supposed to be something completely abnormal, a body without a soul.
But wheh, all I can say is all the people claiming to be vampires are quite insane. Albert Fish claimed to be a servant of God after all, doesn't mean we believe him.

I believe a vampire to be a non-extant figment of the imagination, beginning as a terrifying mythical beast in eastern Europe, later romanticized by books and movies until it became some sort of humanoid figure rather than an evil beast to be destroyed on sight. Goth kids soon pick up on this and think it is "cool", so they start calling themselves vampires because they want to be different and unusual and want people to pay attention to them. Thats all a vampire is, nothing.

No, that's not exactly the "broad spectrum" description that I was looking for. I'm refering to what the defining characteristics of a Vampyre are...not so much the apperance as the physical characteristics.

Gorillas were known to science since 1847
The meteorite named Elbogen one of the oldest recorded falls. It fell in 1400. Many other depictions of meteorites have been found much older.
