I went to see star wars last weekend and brought 9 bucks with me, i get to the ticket person and its 9.50! what the hell is that? i had to use my ATM card all because of that damn 50 cents! movies are getting ridiculous in price, i remember back when i was in elementry school, tickets were 7.50 and mattinee was only like 5 bucks, what are you guys paying these days for a movie ticket?

i mean honestly these ticket prices are more than some people make in an hours worth of work, and think of bringing a family of four....4 tickets equal about 40 bucks right there, and then popcorn, soda, and any other candy, you'll be spending 60-80 bucks easy.... no.gif
Mr Ed
In the UK it is sometimes £6.50, (I think). This is more than what you have paid...laugh.gif
The Roswell Man
we always pay more than evry other country disgust.gif sad.gif
TheOriginalF
I stopped going to see movies at the theater when the ticket price reached $8.00!!! Coupled with the unreasonable price of soda and popcorn, I've just started boycotting movie theaters all together.
Mr Ed
You guys have it cheap compared to us...
seeking
yea i never buy anything to drink or eat at the theater, 5 bucks for like a small coke....
Discordia
A friend and I went to see starwars over the weekend and for the both of us, it costed around 17 dollars. Which I think is ludicris. Everything is going up in price tho. The costs of food is even worse. It's almost 3 bucks for a small drink.
DarkSinister
I guess there's just too much people trying to download the movies. They got to make the money somehow.
BurnSide
We had the price up around 15 bucks a person about 2 years ago. No one was going to the movies at all.

Then, the price dropped right down to 8.50 + tax, so we have it cheap. grin2.gif

That's canadian, i'll remind.
101
$10.00 the most. But then popcorn, sodas, and M&M's for the baby. Wew It is expensive.
BurnSide
That's where they get you here. It's about 5 bucks for a medium drink!!!
Disinterested
Yeah, like BurnSide said, it was really bad here for a while. I think the most expensive was when it cost $13.50. Now it's down to $9.95. I guess people stopped going when the prices were so high, so they had to lower them. Popcorn and soft drinks still cost a fortune though.

It also depends on where you live. I went to see a movie when I was in Winnipeg, and it cost something pretty cheap..... $5 - $6 at most.
TheOriginalF
There are some locally owned theaters around here that aren't too steep. Unfortunately all of them are at the very least an hour away from me, so it's no movies for me I guess.
DarkSinister
There's dollar theathers around where I live.. laugh.gif
AffinityForEvil
7.50 but the first 3 showings or so a day are 5 or 5.50 and this is illinois
MK ULTRA
Bargain Tuesday=£2.99 thumbsup.gif
Rest of the time=£8.00 disgust.gif

Hotdog and large Coke=about a tenner! I refuse to buy food at these places, its far too expensive. mad.gif
Tommy
In Liverpool watching a movie at FACT is £4.50, but that has reclining seats, THX..etc...and you can bring beer if you so wish into the screen with you. tongue.gif

The UGC in Liverpool is £3.50 with a student card, but back in London its £6.50 or with a student card, £4.50. Cinemas are so over priced! I hate the thought of getting food in them; the whole experience does usually end up to be about £10 (or $18)

why is popcorn so overpriced...
Ria
The flicks were i live is £2:50 and the popcorn is something like £2 still that's only for a small so me and my mates take our own goddies
jpalz
Mmmm.... on average 5 bucks. But I watched Revenge of the Sith paying only 4 bucks!!! grin2.gif

But videogames are way more expensive (70-80 dollars, on average sad.gif )
Walken
Now that I'm an adult happy.gif, £6.50!

Its an outrage! I can't have sex or drink but I have to pay an additional two bucks to see a movie! OUTRAGEOUS!
seeking
anyone read that link about why popcorn prices are so high.....shoot, movie companies RAPE the box office
AztecInca
The most we have to pay is around $10.00 so I always go on tuesdays when its half price.lol!
Boff
I think its about 9 out here. And food will kill your wallet. I never go to movies anymore unless its something I HAVE to see on big screen. Star wars for example, which I saw twice. A movie like that I dont feel so ripped off paying about 20 in total to get in plus get food.

Otherwise Ill just download movies.
ALNA70
Adult ticket $9.00

Matinee Adult ticket $6.50
Purplos
Yup... $9.00 for us in NJ. I've never bought food at a movie, so I have no clue how much that is. I have a big purse... I can bring almost anything in with me.
distortedpandy
It's like $9 here...but I'm cheap and go to the $1.50 place across town laugh.gif
Subtemperate
FOr those of us in melbourne who are not students the price is usually around $13.....

However I tend to flirt with the security guards to get in cheaper... Its a 50-50 thing. Half the time I get in.... Half the time I get badly bashed...
brittish_gurl
Ummmm...... $5.50 in the daytime and $8.50 at night......

The last time I went to a moive the price was $5.00! Not only that but there were people talking all around me. Kids were making all kinds of noise. And the sounds from the other two cinamas drowned out most of the dialogue. Besides that - the seats were the most uncomfatable things to sit in (I am a large woman)! After this fiasco I refused to go out to see a movie and have stood by my decision. I rent them now and enjoy them much more. I can replay a part over or put it on hold while i take care of nature - i can even watch the whole moive several times before returning it. And as for the food - heck - i can enjoy a whole meal while watching the moive for that they charge for a small coke and cup of popcorn! Plus there are no rude people to deal with at home. Nope I really don't miss going to the movies!
DEATHBOT 2000
A place I used to go with my mates charged £2.50 on Monday nights to see any film (i think it was for students) Anyway, that place has closed down now. It was a flea pit, but it was OUR flea pit!

Place I go to now charges a fiver. Always take my own food and drinks in with me. Never buy anything from the cinema.
Wonder Woman
Wow it is so expensive where I live, for the regular theatre it is about $13 for a full paying adult, Tuesdays is $7.50. For the smaller theatres it is around $7.00 for 2 movies, but they would be ones that have been out for a while, not the big blockbusters, they only get showed at regular cinema's. I hardly ever go the cinema, only to see movies with lots of effects or if I really want to see the movie and cant wait for dvd.
~TheBigK~
It's $7.00 for an adult, and the small downtown theatre is only $5.00. A small soda costs $2.50, and so does all the candy. And a small popcorn is $3.00, I guess compared to some others the ones here arent too expensive, but I say $7 is still too much.
greychupa
I pay 5 € and 50 cents for movies.
Dando Kast
Wow... you guys are all getting ripped off!!..... I pay about $7.50 CDN to see a movie with theatre sitting on a screen so big I have to look left and right once in awhile to catch the action (and that's sitting three quarters of the way in... which by the way gives you better sound quality then the very front or very back)...

I only go to see the movies that are meant to be seen in theatres though... like any Marvel movie.... Star Wars of course.... I can't stand a comedy in the theatre....

Has anyone been to Canada Place Way in Vancouver? They have an Imax there that has large leather recling seats that can actually swivel and move depending on what's playing.... the screen is the largest in the world and goes overtop, underneath and it's on the sides of you as well... so if your watching a movie with say a U-boat in it then at points it would feel like the U-boat was below you... it's awesome...

I'm not sure if this is totally true, but the only money the theater earns is from the snacks and candy. The ticket price is arranged on a much larger scale than the theater. Just kind of interesting if it is true. hmm.gif

That's basically true... the ticket sales all go to the production company and those that worked on the movie....
seeking
well a percentage of ticket sales go to the production company, and as the weeks progress the production companies cut gets smaller and smaller

wub.gif I miss drive-in movies...it used to be one big party in there. People would bring beer, lawn chairs, sneak a couple of people in in the trunk or back a station wagon in to lay in the back and watch. innocent.gif
LittleIrishVampiress
it used be fiver, but now its 7 euros hmm.gif i think it's 4.50 tho for kiddies or under sixteens...
