A team of ghostbusters is to investigate a Glasgow theatre after a string of reports of spooky sightings. Members of the Scottish Paranormal Investigations (SPI) team will spend a night in the Tron Theatre to analyse spirit activity. The team's overnight stay comes after several people, including the theatre's caretaker, reported seeing spectres in various parts of the building. The tower is the oldest part of the Trongate theatre and dates back to the 16th century. It has survived several fires and has a rich history which includes a spell as a place of execution. There have been reports of people dressed in old-fashioned clothing seen near the tower and also of people looking out of its window down to the street below. The most famous sightings are of two children - a boy and a girl aged around nine or 10 - in the former church's boiler-room. David Smith, assistant team leader with SPI team, said: "What we're trying to do with The Tron is prove or disprove that there is activity there. "There are numerous reports of activity and sightings in the Tron. "Most famously are the two children seen in the boilerroom by the caretaker who were very well-dressed in old-fashioned clothing. "There are also sightings in the box office of a man in full horse riding gear. "The member of staff who saw the man thought there was a fancy dress party going on and followed the figure up the stairs but he disappeared." Mr Smith, who admits he is a sceptic, added: "There have also been sightings in the Victoria Bar and in the theatre itself."

A provisional date in July has been set for the Tron investigation and a team of up to 12 ghostbusters will spend the night in the building. They will be armed with a mind-boggling array of meters and gauges including an EMF meter which measures electromagnetic fields, motion detecting equipment, and ultra- sensitive audio and light meters. Tron marketing manager Charlie Barron said: "I haven't heard or seen anything personally but I know perfectly level-headed members of staff have. "There's a lot of activity around the tower, which is the oldest part of the building. "And people have been seen in old-fashioned clothing or looking out from the tower."

All the unexplainable things that I have seen has happened over the course of many years. So putting in a night or two looking into any possible haunting leaves you wide open to negative results. If the ghosts can see in to our realm, dimension, what ever, would they not stop to watch the Investigator before putting on a show. A good inquiry would take months at least.

Hi Roger.My name is David Smith and I am the person interviewed in the article about the investigation of the Tron Theatre.First of all i would say that i totally agree with your comments about collating credible evidence on one visit.Put simply it just won't happen.Hence the reason why this is our 3rd visit to the Tron theatre (a fact ommitted by the reporter).
We are firmly of the opinion that repeat visits (and as many as possible) are required simply to validate and collate any "evidence" and see if it is a recurring theme and if so try and look at the factors involved to see if there is a common link.So far with the Tron we have established repeat activity in certain areas so going by this information we plan on doing more detailed and in depth investigating of these areas and include more experiments to see if it is naturally produced.(Power cables,ley lines,infasound etc) or whether it is unexplained.Not necessarily meaning Paranormal but just unexplainable at this point in time.

Noted David. I and I am sure others await your finding with interest.

My personal interest is in the Tools used for documentation of events. As science has advanced man builds machines to sharpen his perceptions of his surroundings. Like the mechanical nose the Army uses to find Drugs and Explosives. They still can not compare with the nose of a Dog. From what I have observed some people are more sensitive to a spiritual event and some do not see a thing. My Quest is to find a sensing device that records reading in the ranges only some can perceive. And then have proof that the readings are not random Energy Spikes, but true Spirits. The tools used now give an indication, but not of any thing that could be not be Random Natural occurrences. I think this can be done but only with more knowledge of the workings of the Brain, and a better understanding of The Mind or ID behind it.

Now thats a challenge!

Considering how little we actually know about the brain and how it works etc i can only wonder about a device like that.I am fairly sceptical as a whole about ghosts but i must admit that the sensitives in our group have come up with some pretty remarkable findings which at this point in time we do not have a rational explanation for.The whole realm of sensitivity , precognition , being able to see the past and the future is an area that for the time being remains very much like religion.It's there and people believe in it and people don't.You cannot prove its existence or non existence and that's what makes the spiritualist side for me anyway an interesting part of our investigations.However i do lean towards science and gadgets etc to try and explain any "phenomena" that may occur.
In this sense we will be using EMF Meteres.Ion Counters.Gauss meters.Digital thermometers (both air and solid object).Infra red night vision video cameras with external Lighting and microphones.We have normal digital cameras and non compressed format digital cameras.We have 3 laptops we use.One for downloading digital images.1 for EVP analysis and the other as a spare webcam if required.We also have 4 remote wireless Infra red cameras which link up to our base station TV/DVD recorder to allow us to view any room which is not being investigated.Along with motion sensors and digital recorders as well as Polaroid cameras and ordinary 35mm ones we have a pretty comprehensive range of equipment from a technical point of view which i tend to lean towards.
From a non technical viewpoint we also employ dowsing rods with the sensitives as well as candles,bells and trigger objects etc so we do try and cover all areas of investigating.
After our investigation i will post our initial reactions/findings to see if they compare with our previous visits and see what the circumstances were like and compare any similarities to see if there is a link etc.

For those of you who read about us investigating the Tron theatre you will be pleased to know we have now finished our 3rd Investigation of the Tron Theatre in Glasgow,Scotland.

As i stated in an earlier post about the need to investigate venues regularly this is the reason we have been going back to the Tron to see if the claims of Paranormal Activity are true.
Alas on this investigation we were swamped with staff from the Tron plus 4 potential new members making the numbers almost 3 times higher than we would normally have for an investigation.I think word had got round about our previous visits and more and more staff were curious to see what all the fuss was about.Obviously this hindered us in terms of setting up equipment , trigger objects, baseline tests etc.
However we did have 1 or 2 very strange occurrences which were experienced by our regular team members and 2 of our new members.In one instance we have a locked off camera concentrating on an area in the theatre where an apparition has allegedly been seen walking.At one point the camera vibrates as if someone is walking by.We know this because shortly after one of the team does walk by and the vibration and movement is identical.We then got one of the team to walk by a few times and on each occasion the same disturbance is noted.Now the theatre was locked and only 1 person had a key to the doors and he was in another area doing a seperate vigil.We also knew that trains ran underneath the theatre so we assumed it was vibration from the trains.However we noted the times of the trains as they passed under us and checked the footage but this does NOT make the camera vibrate.At the moment we have no explanation as to why the camera was moving.This doesn't automatically mean it was Paranormal simply that we don't know why it moved yet.
Secondly we had a group of 4 people doing a vigil in the old Victorian Bar which is built directly over the old church graveyard.During this vigil 2 members of the team (1 very experienced) and another new member both caught site of a shadowy figure moving across the door which led to the kitchens.They both heard shuffling and immediately ran in to see who was playing tricks but found the corridor leading to a wall.No one was there.
The last bit of information cannot be taken as credible evidence as it came from one of our Psychic mediums who has investigated the Tron before but this is what he picked up on this time:-

In the theatre he picked up on the spirit of a little girl who he thought was called "Lisa" she said she came from Ireland with her dad in the 1920'swho was looking for work.Each time he called her Lisa she giggled as if we were getting her name wrong for example but she never said it was totally wrong.She also said she stays nearby and used to play in this area.
Afterwards one of the team researched this story and this is what she found in the archives of the Mitchell Library and old Parish Records of Glasgow:-

"After our Comms Circle on Saturday night, I was very curious about the girl Lisa who was connecting with Stephen. I’ve done a search through the Scotlands People website (excellent site) for any deaths around 1929 (as per Stephen).
I’ve found a listing for an Elizabeth Kilpatrick from Wellpark Street in Dennistoun, Glasgow. She died in 1933 at the age of 14. Her father was a widower (Stephen did say that she came here from Ireland with her father) who worked down the mines. I’ve checked the map and Wellpark Street is just off the High Street (which runs down to the Tron). Lisa said that she played around the area. She also kept giggling when Stephen called her Lisa so maybe it was LIZA…"

Co-Incidence , psychic or researched Before the event??

We obviously trust our members and have no reason to doubt their integrity so we can rule out prior research but i know the sceptics won't so we will leave you to decide.

At present we are still analysing our audio and video footage to see if anything else turns up and if it does then log on to www.spi-web.co.uk for an update
