Okey doke. I can understand not wanting your child to roam free on the internet!

What about the kids who don't have internet access? How can they do the assignment of "Find the opinions of people on internet forums?" I haven't been in school for a while. Do teachers really assign strictly internet research? I'm sure there are still some kids out there who don't have access.

I wasn't cutting particularly on you, dear OP. I see a LOT of people coming on various forums saying "I/my child need/s to write a report. Can someone please tell me about ... whatever..." Just irks me.

If there's no Internet access at home, there's limited access at schools and libraries. Since it's somewhat readily available, most teachers assume they'll do the research online. Sadly, it does take the fun out of roaming libraries, which I still like to do. hmm.gif

Unfortunately, in schools today, not only do teachers seem to think every child has a computer with internet access at home, but most assignments require at least some internet research. Often teachers actually give out lists of websites to research on. All reports are also expected to be typed/illustrated on a computer and kids loose points if reports are handwritten. Kids without computers or internet access are stuck trying to find a computer to use. More often than not library computers are booked in advance so most kids go to a friend's house to do their assignments instead. The times they are a-changin'!

It's a sad thing that libraries are being abandoned for the Internet. I love going to the library, especially the really big, old ones. There's something serene about browsing through the stacks...

But anyway....back on the subject of unicorns....Wednesday has come and gone and I hope PranceyDog got the info needed for the report. original.gif
