Hello everybody,
I noticed that we have both a guitarist thread and a drummers thread so why not a thread dedicated to the bottom end thump you hear in all of your favorite songs. Yes the bassists now have a home here at UM. This will be a good place to either ask questions or post something about gear, theories, and techniques among other things. This will also be a place for those wanting to learn more about the often overlooked and misunderstood world of the bassist.
So come on in ask some questions, post some thoughts and have a great time discussing all things low end, deep and bass like.

Ive noticed that the old school bands(black sabbath, metallica, megadeth etc.) have a lot of funky bass and bass effects

I don't know if I would describe their bass work as "Funk" the music doesn't really lend the proper groove for that style, I would describe it as more of an overblown blues or straight eighths style myself. A lot of them did make use of distortion pedals when putting together their bass lines though.

I know the bassist/singer in Cream used to turn his amp up as loud as possible to get it to distort.
