Something I have wondered about for years is this sighting I had when I around 5 years old. My mother had been in the kitchen doing dishes after dinner, she was holding my fussy baby brother in one arm and trying to wash things with the other. She dropped a pot into the sink and water had splashed her pretty good, it was all over my brother, too... so while she wiped him down and went to change him she asked me to go to her room and get her a clean shirt. I hated going down the hallway alone, I always saw people there, others here have referred to the same types of beings I saw as shadow people; anyway the hallway scared me, so I ran as fast as I could to get it over with. I flipped on her bedroom light, ran to the dresser, got a shirt and was nearly on my way out when something caught my eye. It was a catlike thing, only we had no cats. And it was really wrong for a cat if it had been one....It's head was too small for its body and its mouth was filled with way too many skinny little needle teeth. The fur was dirty and matted. It just sat in the middle of the bed and stared at me. The only sound was a sort of deep breathing noise. I was terrified and ran to get my mom. I begged her not to go in there to see it but she did, only there was nothing there anymore. She assured my all this had been my imagination. I may have only been 5 but I knew what I saw and I also knew that my mom was obviously upset and that it was better to let her reassure me and try to forget about it.
I saw other things over the years and when I was 8 this creature made another appearance to me, only this time it was flying around the ceiling and resembled a bat, but it had the same needle teeth and the same facial structure, too round, too small. By this time, I had learned not to talk about the things I saw, it only upset my mom and made her worry. It wasn't until I was 14 that I ever brought it up again. We had been on a drive and there was a roadkill cat, its matted fur and distorted appearance forced me to remember the thing on the bed. I asked my mom if she remembered what I had told her I had seen all those years ago and I asked her what she thought would have made me "imagine" such an ugly thing like that when I was so little. She was obviously and suddenly very upset. I apologized because I didn't know what else to do. But then she told me the truth. The thing had sat on her chest every night for years, she said she could feel its weight and its breath but she was always too scared to open her eyes to see what was there so she would just lay there and pray for it to go. One day it finally had. We have talked about it many times since, we don't know what it was or why it just went away eventually, the only thing we know is that I saw what she had felt sit on her all those times. I would love to hear anyones thoughts on this.

That is really freaky, and that's all I have to say.
Bizeebutt
that is really freaky... I wonder if it was an incubus or something similar?

your poor mom! how terrifying for her?! My mother just told me today that she feels some sort of presence in her new house that she just built... she says she hates laying in bed at night sometimes because she hears someone walk into the room and she knows that if she opens her eyes she will see someone looking down at her. She says she can hear who ever it is breathing... but she never opens her eyes. All this with her husband sleeping right next to her.

Its just funny that she's never shared this with me until now. poor mommies!!
knightone
Very interesting encounter. I have never heard of an experience with anything like it. Similar accounts and experiences, but never a creature like that.

gargoyles are supposed to protectors arent they?? keeping evil spirits at bay, which is why they are always on top of buildings/churches...

i've had a similar kind of experience... i have told it before but i'll do the refresher.. lying in bed, next to the boyf.. he always falls asleep as his head hits the pillow.. im on my back staring at the ceiling trying to sleep.. something catches my eye in the far corner of the room on the ceiling... it sees me looking at it and scurries (its the only word that best fits the movement) across the ceiling to over the top of me.. for a moment i'm thinking that my cat has somehow gotten on the roof.. cant quite understand what is going on. and the only way i can describe it is a cross between a cat, and one of those gargoyles off ghostbusters (lame, i know) well i freaked.. saying what the hell is that (lol, but not entirely in that context).. turned the light on.. and its gone.. only my cat is crouched down, next to my bed staring at the ceiling.. puffed up.. big eyes etc..looking not too happy.
i know i wasnt asleep or dreaming.. i do know i scared the living crapola out of my boy (apparently i have a good set of lungs). i also do know that a really, really bad feeling eminated out of what ever this creature was.. and while i havent seen it since (touches wood) i feel it hanging around every now and then

Thank all of you for the replies. It's good to be among those who are willing to listen.

did it hurt you ever? or your mother? If you did not get any sense of evil from it then you should not really worry.. maybe it was the devils pet cat..bad JK!
Xoisk el Soñador
That’s REALLY creepy…at first I was going to say it was your imagination running wild from an archetype, but this sounds amazingly realistic. I don’t have the slightest idea of what you’ve sighted. Was the only feeling you reoccurred was being terrified? Maybe you should of approached it with caution and try to prove that it’s nothing, I’ve heard multiple stories of people who confront theses devious creatures and consult them with respect they’ll leave.
amityasphyxiated
No, the thing never tried to hurt my mother or myself ... well, maybe I should say atleast not in a physical way. It did truly abuse my mother mentally. She says that it happened nearly every night for about five years that when she settled in for bed it would let her get right to the brink of being relaxed enough to sleep and then it would crawl on to her chest and breath right into her face. She says that she always felt like if she ever did anything at all it would have tried to kill or attack her. So she always stayed completely still and prayed and it would go away. She says it happened over just a few minutes and then went away, she also said that it very rarely ever happened more than once in the same night. As far as I'm concerned, I know I got the better end of the deal, I only had to see it. And it just radiated hate, you could feel it. That was horrible enough.... As far as my confronting it...well, that just wasn't going to happen! I was 5!!! I ran and I cried like a little girl! Thanks for the vote of confidence though! My mom has a strong feeling that the thing was there to "test her faith". I can't say if she's right but I can't say she's wrong. I hope I answered your questions okay. Thanks guys.
Kahrie
Sounds to me like an incubus that was sitting on top of your poor mother ohmy.gif i would be soooo freaked out if that happened to me!!!! w00t.gif

Sounds like a variant of the 'old hag' phenomenon. Unusual that it could be seen by someone other than the 'victim', though. And not very haglike, granted, but it takes all kinds... huh.gif

That story freaked the hell outta me, Tiggers too sad.gif ...anywho...maybe your mom was going through sleep paralysis when the creature was in her room. A lot of sleep paralysis cases involve something sitting on a persons chest, or a real heavy feeling. But then that wouldn't explain when you saw it. Maybe it's some kind of new crypto? hmm.gif

I've been doing alot of thinking about the time frame and the things that were going on in our lives at the time and I think I may have come across something that could be linked. I was thinking about my "poor mom" as Kahrie said. And really I agree, things couldn't have been much worse for her at the time. Not only was she having this horrible experience every night, but she was also raising my brother and I all alone. She was dealing with a lot of guilt because she divorced my father. I don't know why she felt guilty because things were honestly worse with him in the house. I felt relieved that he was gone. He was drunk and abusive. But the worst part was that we had this strange neighbor who was a "Bible Thumper" (my apologies to anyone who actually thumps Bibles) but this man was insane and evil under the guise of a "Christian". He used to come over and read the Bible to my mom and tell her how it was wrong that she had divorced but that he could help her find God's forgiveness. This went on for months, he'd come read for about an hour every Sunday after church , he brought his daughter with him who was my age and we would play together. One day I had been outside playing with his daughter while this guy was in the house reading to my mom and I could hear my mom shouting so I went in to find out what happened. Long story short, I stopped something in progress. At the time I didn't quite understand what I stopped but I knew it was bad because my mom was screaming for him to get off of her and to leave. I don't know why it hadn't hit me until now that maybe the incidents are related.

So my question now is.... can this kind of experience bring "something" into existence? Or did "something" already exist and gained power from this experience and used it to torture my mom? Or were things just so unstable at home during those years that my mom and I co-imagined these things? I wont deny for a minute that my mom and I aren't capable of reading eachothers thoughts. It's not an all the time thing but it's happened several times. It seemed very real....
eveningsky339
I'm gonna have nightmares about this for a while now...

I don't really believe the incidents were related, but if they were...

Your Bible thumping friend was pretending to be a man of God, while in reality he was a demonic worshipper or something of that nature. He must have had a crush on your mom so when your dad left he makes his move. Your mom rejects him, so he gets angry and summons that creepy cat demon thing to scare her and keep her awake every night.

Just an opinion.

Wow, freaky stuff. dontgetit.gif
Malicious
wow...that's disturbing...why did ur mom keep it from u for so long?!? do u live in the same house still?
amityasphyxiated
I don't think that the neighbor was a satan worshiper or anything, I don't think he would be smart enough to conjure or summon anything even if he was..... Basically, the guy was just a sicko. I remained friends with his daughter for years, we were in eachothers weddings and such. I know he molested her when she was little because I read her diary without her knowing. ( It was a real bad thing, I know, but I had suspected she was abused and wanted to know and help her) When I confronted her she begged me not to tell anyone so I didn't. I know I should have, but she said it would ruin their lives.....regardless, He was just disgusting. My mom is a very meek and mild mannered kind of person. She didn't want to mess up anyone else's family either so she didn't report him or tell his wife, but she used the threat of telling his wife to keep him at bay from there after. But it did finally come out when I was about 13 after one of many arguments between our house and theirs, his wife pushed my mom down off the porch and the guy went to help my mom up and my mom screamed "Don't touch me or I'll tell your wife what kind of man you really are." More or less that's what she said....she actually threw in some curse words. It was the first and last time I had ever heard her use those kind of words. (I was proud of her! GO MOM!!)

We moved out when I was 16. The incidents with the creature had stopped about three years before that (for my mom) and I hadn't seen it since I was 8.

My mom kept these things from me because she never wanted me to be afraid...(Instead she just let me think I was crazy) She thought it was the better option out of the two...... But really, Can you imagine telling your five year old.."Yeah, I know you saw a demon or something, that's okay, It sits on me every night, now go to bed." crying.gif
SCARLET1
Wow, amity! The description of the creature is pretty freaky, I have to admit.

That said, as to your question of certain events "creating" evil creatures...let me put it this way...I believe that certain "forces" exist in this world, and that while some of them are quite weak in power, the energy given off by people in troubling circumstances can strengthen them. For example, the fear and anger released by a person during a fight can give this force more power, making it more visible and even more capable of affecting a person's life.

In all, I don't think you and your mom "co-imagined" the thing. Especially since she never described this creature to you, yet you both saw exactly the same image. Weak argument, I know, but I don't have a better explanation at the moment. Oh, and I have this theory that people who are closely connected (thru blood, or thru emotional bonds -- like a mother or spouse) can sometimes communicate on a much more basic level (eg. thru empathy, clairsentience, whatever u want to call it) than thru a spoken language. But that's for another thread entirely.

~Scarlet~

PS. As a Christian, I have to say that it's guys like your neighbor that muck things up for the rest of us. What a creep!

Did your family have apet cat that may of been run over by a car or mauled pretty bad and its came back for a visit in spirit form. Was it possible that the bat thing was just a bat that got into the house.

Hi amity & welcome to UM. How'd you pick such a morbid screen name? j/k

Was the creature black? Did you leave your window open at night, or have a dog door? There are some pretty deranged stray cats around, with mangled heads and fur. Just plopping itself on your mom every night for a few minutes is a very cat-like thing to do.....we had a couple cats that would come visit us for a few minutes at night, then leave.(that's why I ask about the window). Was your mom afraid of cats?

Not to trivialize your experience, but it's just that it visited your mom every day for years and the only thing it ever did was what could be described as a cat "cuddling up" to her for a few minutes, then leaving for the night. hmm.gif
TheReizenderUnsegen
It was probably a spirit of a cat or maybe a gargoyle.. I don't think it was a ghost. A ghost does things just to scare you.. Heh.. maybe it was even a demon.. But I think since it did nothing, I think it may have been just a spirit watching over you guys.. I'm not sure.. maybe it is a cat that was killed somewhere near the house.. Yes this is very creepy, very scary.. But actually, about the flying part.. It may be a ghost.. Because I had a ghost in my bedroom who did the exact same thing. A joker ghost maybe.. But from thinking about how that thing looks and acts.. I think it has a sad story to tell..
TheReizenderUnsegen
It seemed to give off hate?
Then it isn't a guardian.. Hell, it's a demon! Or maybe a disgruntled ghost.. Oi, how very frightening..

is that the cat from the game "Alice"?
amityasphyxiated
Just to answer some of the questions...

No, we did not have a pet cat at that time and my mother never owned a pet cat as a child. We did have a cat later on but she in no way resembled the thing that I saw. Cute grey tiger cat that grew old and died a natural non violent death while sleeping in a sunny patch on the carpet..... The thing had dirty white medium to longish fur, not black, and it had red eyes and dozens of needle teeth. There was a window over my moms bed but it was a very high window and there was nothing outside the house to climb on to get to it. I know cats are excellent jumpers but I seriously doubt that's a possibility. My mom never said anything about hearing a thud which would have been heard if a cat jumped down on to the bed or floor from that window. We did not have a petdoor. My mom was not afraid of cats.

I do not believe that what I saw was a ghost. I have seen a few ghosts and have been pinched, poked, pushed, screamed at, smiled at, tapped gently, tugged at, and talked to. This thing was menacing beyond any angry spirit I have ever encountered. I wish I could better explain how it just seemed to assault you with nothing more than its presence. When I saw it as a bat like thing, it was not like the thing it was before other than facially. It actually had presented itself with big black bat wings and a very long skinny tail, like something on a stingray. It circled about the ceiling in the livingroom and then vanished above the doorway of our kitchen. I saw it for about a full two minutes. I have never seen bats or cats that looked anything like this thing did.

Hope I answered everything! Thanks guys.....

CrazyHarry
blink.gif So that's where Fluffy went, Sorry about him, he gets alittle tacky. And the one with wings, that Bartholomule. He got out of his cage. Sorry about them.

I say it's the Pygme Chupra.

It was evil, but liked your mom enough to sit on her every night? Maybe it WAS some sort of hybrid creature, but if it was evil, it would not have been so benign as to calmly visit you mom for years.......it would have bit her or something, at least. Vampire bats look like evil personified, but that doesn't MAKE them evil.
amityasphyxiated
Well, you know, Satan is supposed to be evil and all he did was give Eve a bite of fruit....... You can't try to make the point that just because something looks evil doesn't mean it's not benign and then say that if something acted benign it couldn't possibly be malicious. That's a contradiction.

I don't claim to have answers. If I did I wouldn't be here consulting strangers would I.
turbonium
What I'm saying is that it never did do anything bad or evil to you or your mom. It never even offered you an apple! devil.gif laugh.gif And then it was gone for good. So how can you conclude it was evil based on how it looked?
amityasphyxiated
I did not conclude that it was evil based on looks. I based that on the way it made me feel when I was with it. I am a good judge of people and likely that applies to non humans. If it looked like a pixie cupie doll and made me feel that way I would call it evil.

"We haven't done them, have we? Right. Bananas. How to defend yourself against a man armed with a banana. Now you, come at me with this banana. Catch! Now, it's quite simple to defend yourself against a man armed with a banana. First of all you force him to drop the banana; then, second, you eat the banana, thus disarming him. You have now rendered him 'elpless."

I'm very sorry that you had to go through this experience. It even makes it worse when someone says they are a good person and teach the bible and they do this.
The Raven
All these experiences are creepy. Just thinking about the cat on the dresser or bed is terrible, based on the way you described it. When I first began reading this thread last night I was horrified because it was 3 in the morning. When I went to bed my cat meowed loudly and it made me think I was going to be watched all night. original.gif

I don't really know how to describe or explain this scientifically, other than emotion issues were causing it. What I find as odd is that both you and your mother saw identical creatures. If this creature was a real being, I doubt it was powerful, because I feel as though although being negative to start with, it was feeding off your emotions and making you feel even worse.

The bat creature you described seems not only scary, but it reminded me so much of the Jersey Devil because of it's batlike apperance, teeth, and long, pointed tail -- although I doubt the/a Jersey Devil is that small grin2.gif
