i seen somthing similar during last december and posted it on the board somwhere but cannot remember where.
What it was i duno but is really similar to what you said and how it walked was really weird but it was there for only a short period of time. i werent the only one who seen it at the time because when i seen it i was about to nod off then had the feeling of somthing evil and somthing watching me.
it was fully black, about the size of a dog, no ears and walking was nothing like a dog or a animal i have seen at all, the way it was walking was like golem off lord of the rings stealthy like quite close to the ground.
when i saw it first it was on the computer desk sneeling on 4 legs, i watched it for a few seconds and went to reach for my glasses case to throw at it but it vanished into the darkness. the second time was about 3 mins later but walking from the door past the tv and stand and thats when i seen it walking, it disappeared like the last time. i then got my bed quilt and pillard and slept downstairs next to my brother on the floor. he wondered why i came down and i said i wanna stay down here for tonnight and nothing was said. he knows what i see here (there are 2 shadow people which keep coming and going but one is here on a regular basis almost every night)
During the night he wroke up for some reason and what he told me in the morning what he seen and i told him i see it too before i came down here to sleep. what he saw was the same creature i described but on the gas fire sitting as i described in a crawl like state but staring at him (its head pointing downwards) he had his down with him but he felt to see where she was sleeping next to him.
i have seen other stuff in the past but this is somthing which quite unique. i have seen red eyes on my mothers woredrobe when i use to sleep in there when i was young nightly for about a month, my bother has seen tehm also but i havent seen them from then on.
i really want to know what it was i seen too, i had one jack russel which goes to bed with me but she is always sleeping at teh side of me on my arm and rules out the possibility being her, for cats we havent owned a cat since i can remember but my sister had a cat but that was before i was born (i am 19 now).

I wanted to clarify that my mother never saw this thing. She would always have her eyes closed trying to sleep when it would come and sit on her. She had a strong sense that it would kill her if she ever looked to see what it was. She believed that God was testing her somehow and that if she gave in and looked at it that God would no longer be able to protect her from it. She always laid there and prayed until it would go. I don't know why she felt that way, she has always just insisted that it was just what her instincts told her to do. So to say that we saw the same thing is not exactly true....I was the only one who actually looked at it. It's just that when I told her what I saw and explained the size, the weird breathing noises it made, etc...she "knew" what I saw was her visitor. I think emotion could have been a big factor. Those were very rough times for us as a family. I'm just unsure that it was something we created together although I can't discount that.
When I was about 17 I had a different kind of being that used to interrupt my prayers . So I can kind of relate to what my mom was saying. For some reason every time I went to pray it would show up and put on quite a performance to try to distract me. Those instances were through some rough times as well. I woke up with a head in my bed during that time that said my name and then disappeared. I could feel things sitting down on the bed with me and see the indents on the bed where they were. What/who ever it was didn't like it when I talked to God.

Freaky story.
One thing bothers me though...
If your mom never saw the creature how could she admit that the thing has been visiting/terrorizing her for years? How does she know it's the exact same thing you saw if she never actually saw it?
Never saw it? Felt it's weight on her chest? Happening when she was in a relaxed state almost asleep? Felt scared and terrorized?
Sounds like sleep paralisis to me.
Your case is deffrent though as you actually saw it and it never did what it supposedly did to your mother.

Well, that's the thing she doesn't know for sure .....she just "knows" because that's what she believes. What else could it have been that I saw?.... and how odd of a coincidence is it that I saw it on her bed when she was having those experiences and I was unaware it was happening? I was at an age where I still believed that grown ups never had fears or bad dreams or believed in scary monsters. My mom always told me that monsters were only my imagination even though she personally was starting to believe otherwise . I really do not know anything for sure, unfortunately. All I have to go on are my feelings and experience. It's odd, I know. I wish I had the answers.

Then, she dosen't know. She only suppose. No offense. We have to say things as they are if we want to get throught.

That is a good point, I haven't thought of this. As for what it is, I'd say demon because your mom went throught very emotionnal and hard times and when you are vulnerable like this, it can attrack those evil spirits. Fortunatly, they rarely physically harm people. But yeah, psychological torture is as bad if not worst.

That's a problem in some case. Think about it, you see an entity every night in your room but your parents keep telling you it's in your head despite the fact they know your house is possibly haunted. In that case, telling that lie to the kid to comfort him is wrong because he keeps seeing it anyways and the parents won't listen. On the other hand, if they tell him that it's something that can happen but that isn't dangerous it may comfort him a little more because he knows you care and knows it's not dangerous (he might even confront it and learn to be stronger).
I know the last point is rather delicate but it's only my opinion. If the kid sees things but not the parents, what else can they do beside telling him it's in his head? Nothing really...

Would you mind going into detail about all the things you saw and felt when you were 17? If you feel uncomfortable, I understand. However, some things might be related in some way or perhaps help "open the door" to figuring out what the first apparition/creature might have been.

JayMark, thanks. I have to agree with you completely on the subject of how best to breach the subject of unexplained phenomena to children. With my own children( two sweet little boys) I have always explained to them as you have stated in your last post. I have never denied anything that they have seen unless I could prove to them that it was a shadow from a streetlamp etc, something I could obviously disprove. Parents make mistakes but most times it is unintentional, as with my mother who was only doing what she felt was best for me because she wanted to protect me. She had no idea that she was starting to make me doubt my own sanity. Trust me on that ...it did screw things up for me a bit.

But I love her and in no way hold that against her. Just as I hope my kids wont hold it against me when I screw up, cause, you know, at some point I'm gonna if I haven't already. I've already had to deal with my kids telling all their friends that ghosts are real because their mommy sees them....I dunno if that's such a good thing either.....
Also for the record....I never said that my mom saw what I saw. I stated that more than once and I was not trying to mislead anyone. I'm sorry if I had. That is why I felt compelled to clear that up. Sure it would have made for a better story if she had SEEN the thing, but this isn't a story, it was an event that I tried to explain to the best of my ability as it happened. "Knows" is in quotation marks in that sentence because that is the word she used and I am inclined to believe her. Whether it was real or not, I believe I saw what she felt. Meaning, if the thing was real or imagined, I still believe that I somehow saw what she felt even if it was only me psychically seeing her sleep paralysis induced fear. A mother daughter bond thing.....
Thanks for giving me your opinions and such. That's why I'm here!

I have expeirenced sleep paralysis. It is extremely scary and I could see how it could be mistaken for something else.

Yeah then we both are on the same wavelenght. I know, parents often make mistakes (everyone do) and there are so many diffrent settings we can't put every case in the same basket. I was just talking about the case in witch parents know the kid is right but still dismiss it and even get mad (bad bad bad). Anyhow, I know that even in that case, the mistake is unintentionnal (must be hard to deal with your kids and a haunting at the same time especially alone).
As for the record, I know your mom didn't see it, don't worry I got it. I know exactly what you mean by "she knows it". It's a feeling that you can't explain but that is very real and intense.

Knightone,
The thing that I saw when I was 17 is hard to explain. I didn't get a close or highly detailed look at it because it seemed to be moving at a speed I couldn't comprehend while standing still at the same time. It was like it was writhing or maybe flickering in place very very quickly. The height was about 4 foot, it seemed to be upright, and the colors of it seemed predominately yellow and red. It seemed thin and humanoid but it was literally a blur of movement standing still. I was living in the basement at this time and trying to shut myself off from the rest of my family. I was dealing with a lot of problems and I prayed a lot for guidance. It was during my prayers that it would happen but it wasn't like I was getting ready for sleep. A lot of times it was in the middle of the day and with the lights on, that's how I was able to see the colors of this thing so well. I have no idea what kind of face it may have had or if it really had one at all. It would make talking sounds but I couldn't make out the first word, it was like the words were also moving at a pace too quick to hear. I don't think it had anything to do with what would sit on my bed. I felt that whatever was on my bed, even though it was scary to me, was actually there to help me. The head that I woke up to that said my name was scary too, but I still don't know if that was there really or not. I was just waking up. It seemed real, but who knows.....it was just on my pillow facing me and said my name and then it was gone. It didn't look like anyone I know and it was pretty ugly and looked kind of charred. It was gross and I'm glad I never saw it again. When we moved out of that house I never saw the fast moving thing again.

Back to the subject. I've seen these creatures and I must say they are truly nothing to be feared they can not hurt you it is against their ways. I don't suppose you tried to pet the creature? That may sound like a bad idea but as a druid I must believe that all creatures are to be respected in some way. Afterall evertime I see the creatures I pet them and smile it seems to make them angry and immediatly flee try that next time you see them.

...anywho...maybe your mom was going through sleep paralysis when the creature was in her room. A lot of sleep paralysis cases involve something sitting on a persons chest, or a real heavy feeling. But then that wouldn't explain when you saw it. Maybe it's some kind of new crypto?
