I'm wondering if someone can help solve my little problem? My stupid computer reboots on me without provaction and I'm afraid I might be doing something important and lose my work. Does anyone know why it is doing this? Is it a virus? Can it be fixed? My computer is a Compaq Presario AMD Duron Processor with 248 RAM and 32-bit file system and OS is Win ME (PC). 6 yrs old.

That is a tough one as random things are hard to identify.

My guess would be that there is some kind of driver conflict that is causing the reboot. The first thing I would do is to check if you have all of the windows updates, and also check if you have the lastest video/sound and motherboard drivers.

Windows ME can be a little finicky and will reboot on occasion, which is why I updated to XP, but I do not think that will be an option given your specs...

After that, there are utilities that are available from www.Download.com that will allow you to check out your windows registry, as well as do hardware checks. I have had good luck with Tune-Up Utilities 2004...Just run through all of the utilities...

I will give some more thought to see if I can come up with anything else, but the above is what I would start with.
