I got this from
Coast to Coast's website
QUOTE
One of our members, on several occasions, took items from the (abandoned) Manteno State Mental Hospital that we have been investigating for the past year. The items included: an old woman's shoe, a set of keys, an old greeting card, a nurse's notebook with patient notes, a newspaper clipping, a sick note, a carton of cigarettes, and an evacuation plan. The majority of our members will not remove items from a haunted location due to the fact that a spirit or entity can attach themselves to it. The member knew that the items could be haunted, but took the items in hopes to be able to get some pictures or be able to record some EVPs. The items were kept in her bedroom.
The member noticed that there was a shadowy figure that would walk out of her room, and her bedroom door would open and close by itself. So, we decided to do an investigation at her home in Romeoville, IL on June 9, 2005. All of the items that were taken from the mental hospital were placed on her bed. We conducted our investigation, taking well over 100 pictures and recording multiple EVPs. Once the pictures were reviewed, we were shocked at what we discovered. There was an image of a man standing in her room. The man's head appears to be looking downward towards his chest, and he appears to be carrying something in his left hand. If you look closely there appears to be a shadow cast back onto the bed behind the man. Whatever you think it is it appears to be attached to one of these objects. This is an example of why you should not take items with you from a location that you believe to be haunted.

These pics scared the daylights out of me the first time I saw them! Kinda reminds me of that pink monster from Monsters, Inc.
EDIT: Changed the image server.

It looks like a gumby doll held in front of the camera. Or the mother toy from McDonald's Incredibles Happy meals toys. In any matter, it is too fake looking.

I can't tell...I'm ruling it fake...
Fable
Jun 20 2005, 01:29 AM
Aye, it definitely looks like some type of action figure from something held in front of the camera. It won't necessarily look that way to begin with, but once you upload it and blur with effects, that could certainly give you the end results that are seen here. It's also nice how they tried and explain the "dark" spots as being tattoos and such. Perhaps the true figurine that was used does.

Agreed..Definitely a toy. It looks vaguely familiar too. I'm thinking a character from Star Wars, maybe..
TaintedDoughnuts
Jun 20 2005, 01:52 AM
so they held up a toy in front of the camera and photoshopped it to make it blurry? pretty smart! or dumb.

Jun 20 2005, 03:54 AM
Hoplessly fake.

It does look like s starwars thing. But I can't put my finger on it...

Actually. They put the focal point on the room far off and then held the item close to the camera which causes items not in the range of the focal point to be blurred.

Looks completely fake. I agree. its some kind of toy. Notice how it doesnt have feet, because someone is obviously holding them.
Something i didnt expect tho, the house this pic was taken in is in my town, Romeoville, IL. thought that was strange. last place id expect to hear about.

I'm sure Coast to coast wouldn't like you linking to thier pictures.
At least copy them to your PC first and use a image host like image shack

absolutely horrible, I was interested when I heard about Manteno, as I have conducted several investigations there myself, but when I got to the pictures, well, that's a different story. Looks like General Grevious or one of the robot warrior figures or something.
Sad really, because it is another notch against the few 'real' pics that do surface.

Definately fake. They could have taken a photo of anyones bedroom (possibly the webmasters) and held something up against the camera. Easily one of those Haribo gummy bears. And just by doing that and focusing on the background voila you have a blurred image.
And since when have ghosts been orange?! I thought they were blurry white.
Once doing the photos they could have made up some believable story or vice versa.

Good idea using some paper and a cam, it does look like ET from the film.
But you never fooled me

Maybe you should sent it to some ghost site. Make a story up like you were taking pics of your room cos you were selling the house or something. It'll be a smash hit

The figure does have dimension, but that also can be done with bevel and emboss. Only if there weren't people trying to fake these, we'd be able to trust all the photos.

It's like a domino effect of one failed "comedian" to the next.... Just one "genius" had to post a stupid fake obvious picture that created a trend for more Lemmings to follow..... Wow! Pat yourself on the back because you earned your lifetime acheivement award!

The first time I would think everyone would understand and move on but come on this is just "old" now. For the sake of humanity can somebody please close this thread! I don't mean to be so f-ing negative but I'm sure some have to be pretty f-ing annoyed with the same so called failed pranks. I apologize but this kind of immaturity is degrading the forum and wasting all of our times. Its cool to joke and have a great time and stuff but it's like telling the same joke evertime by somebody different. If I offend anyone I'm sorry but I just had to state the obvious.

TaintedDoughnuts, how could you be scared by seeing such an atrocity?
I consider myself easily spookable but this, it actually made me laugh.
But you do have a cool name at least.
Just kidding, nice find anyways even though there's a 102% chance it's fake. Note that there's a 2% error margin.

wow... dude, you're missing the fun part of this entire field of study(if you even call it), which is to spot fakes and laugh at them. if you're saying i made this, I DIDN'T. i got it off of www.coasttocoastam.com. the only immature person here is you, who didn't even read the first sentence of the thread:

Anyways, I've learned a valuable lesson: 1) a new way to check if ghost pics are fake, and 2) these topics get off really really fast! before anybody gets flamed and a huge flame war erupts, Can a mod please close this thread? It'd be much appreciated

As a newbie here, I should explain I am a skeptic of the paranormal, but
not a non-believer. There are all sorts of phenomena we can't explain. I use Occam's razor as a rule: one should not increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities required to explain anything. If there are two explanations, the simpler one is
more likey to be true.
The unknown and and unexplained become more fascinating when applying Occam's razor, not less!
Anyway, the photo looks pretty bogus to me!

BEWARE THE GINGERBREAD URANGUTAN SPIRIT HERE TO SLOUCH BY SNAKES n'stuff.
Could be crap on camera, could be photo fault, could be an elderly man's spirit. Tho the arms look too long. If it's fake then the photographer knows what it is. I think it looks like the orange 3d blur has been added post shot tho i could be mistaken.

Heres something I EMULATED earlier *feels all blue peter presentery like*
(for those with an anger for joke pictures this is an emulation of the origional posting to show how it could be faked if this still angers you then close this post.)
pic 1: The apparent orange spirit EMULATED footage.
pic 2: The origional pic of figure some warmongering ape of some sort (no offence to apes intended) sorry i didnt have any starwars figures or jelly bears for the experiment besides i fancied having a little 'artistic license'

kinda looks like the ghost of sasquatch, just blurry.or maybe chewbacca from star wars?i would have to say that's it's faked but different!
p.s.-sounds like the member of your group is a klepto! one of the very main basic rules of investigating a site is to never take anything.if an object is associated with a person in life i believe it's still the same in death.it looks like bigfoot just wants his notebook pc back.i'm sure he posts on these forums too!!!!
