From Variety:
QUOTE
Sarah Michelle Gellar (The Grudge) is set to star in and Marcus Nispel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) will direct video game adaptation Alice for Universal Pictures, says Variety. Based on a twisted take of the Lewis Carroll classic, the project was originally developed at Dimension.
The fractured fairy tale, adapted by Erich and Jon Hoeber, picks up Alice after her home has been destroyed and her family killed. The sole survivor of the disaster, she returns to a dark and threatening Wonderland where she must confront her fears before returning to her normal life.
The game was originally created by American McGee for Electronic Arts.
Excellent news for the most part, Alice will look fantastic on screen. But Gellar? Maybe Natalie Portman or Christina Ricci, not Gellar. There's no way she can make this look good.

Maybe i'll be suprised. I guess we'll see.

Awesome though! A dark and twisted wonderland full of dismembered corpses and tortured children starring a gothic knife welding Alice. Sick.

I"d love to see that movie! It sounds awesome. I'd also have to agree with Gellar being a bad choice. I do hope that's just a nasty rumor.

Personally, I don't care who plays Alice. As long as they get the mood and settings done correctly. They would also have to get a lot from her Doctor's point of view. Without the Doctor's notes on Alice, the story dies.

Agreed.
Seriously though, i don't know how they could think Sarah Michelle-Gellar to be a good actress for the role. I mean come on, when has Gellar ever shown she can pull off dark and witty?

She's been a "vampire slayer" for years. Maybe they just assumed that was enough.

I don't think a cute but hard ass kicker with teen girly problems properly suits a dark and twisted insane gothic psychopath obsessed with death and suffering visions of tortured children.
Janiel
Jun 22 2005, 03:09 AM
Yeah...good point. In that case, let's hope that Gellar was just an idea they were throwing around.

Amen to that.
I think Avril would suit the role better than Gellar, god forbid of course.

Now that's just a scary though, Burns. You feeling under the weather or something?

No, i just think Gellar is such a stupid choice.

Alice in Wonderland was twisted enough....... SO let's twist it some more, eh
That was a cool game though.
And Buffy, I mean Sarah Michelle Geller is an AWFUL choice.
Edit - Hey Burn, do you have a link to the Alice movie stuff?

I don't, sorry. Will try to find it again.

This will be awesome if done right. But I agree with the other dissenters: Gellar is a bad choice. I vote for Christina Ricci or a newcomer. We need someone who can look gothic-muderous realistically, not a WB blondie.
BurnSide
Jun 22 2005, 03:21 PM
Agreed, a newcomer would have been best.

Actually, come to think of it, Gellar looked sort of similar to Alice in the Stone Temple Pilots video, the one that sort of looked like Donnie Darko with the crazy bunnies.

And besides, looks can be altered easily in cinema these days, so maybe we'll be suprised.

Any word on who the mad hatter will be. A while back i heard they wanted Manson. that would be a great choice for this movie. and if its close to the game i will be happy.

I had totally forgotten something really important about the character Alice. She's brittish... Anyone without an authentic accent wouldn't be able to do it correctly.

I know, i have a sneaking suspicion they'll make Alice american, which would be awful. One of Alice's prime aspects what she was screwed up but able to keep her british mannerisms intact and was quite polite and sweet, in a british, psychopathic way.

Well, finally something is *happening* with the Alice film! I'’m happy too… I think Sarah will make a fine Alice, especially after her performance in The Grudge.
This was announced in the Hollywood Reporter today…

Universal to put Gellar in Wonderland
By Borys Kit and John Gaudiosi
Universal Pictures is making “Alice,” an adaptation of video game “American McGee’s Alice,” with Sarah Michelle Gellar attached to star for director Marcus Nispel.
“Alice” is based on the Electronic Arts game created by American McGee, a lead designer of the “Quake” and “Doom” series of games. EA’s game is based on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice in Wonderland” novels, which are in the public domain.
In the game, Alice has grown up to become a disturbed young woman. After her parents are killed in a fire, Alice returns to Wonderland, a dark and threatening place of looking glasses, mysterious potions, nonsensical tea parties and talking animals, confronting her fears and the wicked Queen of Hearts.
And this is coming from Mcgee's site...
