So as a child, basically newborn until 9-10 years of age, we had this sketch of my great grandma, by my aunt, hanging at the bottom of the steps on our frist floor. At night, there was a window that would cast light from a streetlight onto the painting, making it the only visible object on the first floor. When my cousins, who were older than me, had visited in the past, my parents had to take the picture down because it scared them so much.

Just wondered if anyone else had something like this in their house that scared them at a young age. If you do, post a pic!

Creepy picture, that would have scared the bejezzez out of me as a child! I don't have any pictures to share, but as a child I was deathly afraid of a certain vase that a neighbor had put in his window. Only instead of a proper vase it was a head smoking a pipe and the flowers grow out of the the top of it's head, for years I would run screaming when ever I saw it.

I would go so far to say that exposing that portrait to children could be considered child-abuse. Yikes! *shivers*

w00t.gif lol!

I was afraid of the wood paneling on the walls in my moms bedroom. It looked like it had faces in it! But that picture wins hands down.

What were your parents thinking to be hanging that up! I dont care if it was your great G ma.. Its freaky Blair Witch stuff! w00t.gif

Haha, it's good to see that others agree with me when i think back and realize that was kind of messed up of them to have that in the open. They ended up moving it to our guest bedroom or something. It is at my house now, finally not scared of it. Only took 24 years, lol.

I would put that sucka on Ebay asap with as a haunted picture!!!!!!!!!

Why painting your great-grandma like that? Why not with a happy decontracted expression (and a smile also)?

Anyways, I'd be scared as well to see that especially at night.

As for the question, yes it already happened to me but only once. It was about 6-7 years ago (I was 12-13). My grandmother was very religious and she brang me to this religious couple's house. At some point, we went downstairs because they had sort of a small homemade church (you know with chairs, a hotel, statues, candles etc.). Well, I went down and immediatly saw a Jesus doll on a crucifix. Only the doll wasen't very realistic, it was like a voodoo doll (sort of like a piece of art you know). It had long thin limbs all made of brown cloth. It also had a small head with two small black eyes. When I saw that I felt a lightning bolt going throught my spine. For some reason, it terrorized me to the bones. I calmed down but when I had to go upstrairs with them, it still gave me chills to see it. Thinking about it gives me the chills right now. Don't ask me why.

Time for a portrait burning...

Well, when I was about 4 years old, my sister and her friend (who was about 7) decided to let me watch all of the Puppet Masters movie (Horror movies) anyways, aside from the fact that it scared the hell out of me. My sister had a bunch of dolls from Europe, with the crazy moving eyes. Wasn't able to sleep in the basement until I was like 13 because I would always be awake and freaked out.

My dad let me watch gremlins when it came out on video, I was about 6 or 7 i think. That was a bad idea, lol. I had this transformers poster on my wall what was a desert scene with about 6 transformers spread out. I had about 40 nightmares about those morphing into gremlins and coming out of the wall to get me until I was about 10. Man, the more stories I read from others on here, the more spooky stuff I remember myself going through hmm.gif

Sad thing is that your great-grandmother may have been a very lovely person. That painting though, seems to have been done to deliberately make her appear witch-like. I wonder how she would feel if she knew it had scared children.

When I little I was afraid when I looked into a mirror, I would see the reflection of someone standing behind me, but when I turned no one would be there. Kinda like the reverse of a vampire.

My Grandma also had a creepy grandfather clock that scared the sh*t outta me. Don't really know why though.

Yes, and not only children, but HER children!
When I was little, I began piano lessons at age 8. I practiced for an hour or so every day during each school year. Then mother would give me the summers off, bless her heart. (That's probably why I still play) ANYWAY, I was usually alone in the living room to practice and we had this old,big portrait print of this lady that mother called "The Southern Belle". Sort of a Mona Lisa-type thing. To her left was this creature with wild eyes and long fingers extended toward her. I wish I had some way to post it for y'all. It didn't help that the lady in the picture's eyes always seemed to follow you wherever you were in the room like the native american lady Xoisk posted. I never told my mom or anyone else that i was afraid. Don't ask me why. Kids just don't always tell those things; maybe i subconsciously thought it was pretty cool (Knowing myself now, I'd say that's a safe guess haha). But I was in there with that thing every day. Eventually the picture was replaced with something else and it went into the attic. I went up to see it years later and realized that the creature was a tie-back of the heavy velvet drapes behind her which were popular in formal rooms at the time, and the long fingers were fringe!! I guess the wild eyes were hooks or somethin'. I have that portrait now just like you Big Brother and I just love it. I put it up from time to time just for fun to see if any of my friends see it the same way I did for so long. They often do! It scared the religion right out of this freckle-faced piggy-tailed little tomboy. But like I said, I loved every minute of it.

Well, there was this crucifix that my mother had...

When I was little, my mom put this Clown lamp in my room. It was the Clown's head, with the bulb sticking out from the top of its head. The bulb was color blue, so when it was on, it would make it look really creepy. Not to mention that the clown had this very creepy grin. no.gif

that is really, REALLY bloody creepy, I would'nt even have that in my house now!

You know, it's weird...the number of people I've run into who think clowns are creepy vastly outnumber the ones who think they're funny....in fact, I'm not sure I even know any of the latter huh.gif

I've never really been scared of any pictures, or models...not that I remember anyway. Although, back when I was a kid, I was terrified of going into our kitchen at night. It was because the kitchen in that house had these great big windows, and I used to be very freaked out by the fact, with the lights on, people could see in, but you couldn't see out.

Of course, that's probably because some guy in the neighbourhood had a habit of wandering around peeking in windows. Every so often, we found his footprints in the show just outside our windows blink.gif

That picture is scary.

I use to have a doll who scared the life out of me, here's a link to the thread about her.

Pennywise from the film "IT" ruined my tolerance of the clown race...

That picture is creepy, couldn't put it in my house. It seems like one of those pictures where the eyes would follow you.

If the picture was painted with other colors it wouldn't have been so scary. But the face is painted entirely in gray and the hair is white, strange selection of colors... I doubt that your grannny had such a gray face...

No offense Big Brother - but did your aunt like your great grandma?!
That is just too Edgar Allen Poe.

One hell of a scary picture, I would hate that up myself never mind subjecting my children to such a thing.

When I looked at the picture, I was sure I'd seen it before, until I read it was your own actual great grandmother, not a famous picture.

The eBay idea seems like NO JOKE to me. You write up an interesting/weird backstory for this thing, bet you could get 4 or 5 figures for it. You might not even have to lie, just make the "truth" sound as lurid as you can.

The story that JUMPED into my mind when I looked at it was that Great-Gran might have been a devilish shrew, a real hag in life, and the picture is possessed by her even now.

If she was a nice lady, and you knew her, I apologize for saying that. It could be that I watch too much television... rofl.gif

One of the scary things I have seen was when my parents wanted to go out and eat at this certain smokehouse. It had a gorilla sticking out of the big, red barn like restaurant.

The place didn't have anything for a little kid to eat. Anyway who could eat with what I was looking at. In their ceiling there was a dark, shadowy area. They had some kind of critter barely hanging out, that was grinning and you could see it's bright white eyes. It was all black and I never could figure out what it was since I couldn't see the whole thing. It looked like it's eyes were always starring at me and looked like it was going to get me. From what I could tell it was the size of a skunk or racoon. I wish I had a pic so you all can get an idea of what it was.

The waitress said it watches children and if they didn't eat their supper then they don't get dessert. I hated that place and I can still remember the sickening hickory smell. I think my mom finally got it that I was too scared to eat so we stopped going. The place burnt down and was rebuilt elsewhere, then went out of business. Not that I wish ill on anyone's business, but geez.

I still love bbq though. grin2.gif
