Ok i'm new to this
plz be patient
In my small town theres an old railway tunnel (corny it sounds, i know) and when your young and stupid you tend to do stupid things, i was one! they actually had been a murder in there 1 week before i was dared to go throught it on my own and my mates would drive to the other side across the river. i lit up a cig as i entered straight away the cig died out! it scared me at that moment until i realised it could of just of been a drip of water. now all around me was pitch black as i proceded. Because i'm not very clever! i lit a cig up again this time i had about 3 drags and the same thing happend! now i was f*cking scared!!, i backed up to the wall in the pitch black and sat down in the dust and durt, and then i did something that when it happens in horror films you think "you stupid c*nt" but hey its me! yes i lit my lighter! and big peices of 'what i thourght to be dust (later to be orbs according to my friend, but i thourght you can only see orbs through a lense?) before i knew tears was dripping down my face (yeah 20 years old!, i have no pride left!) thats how scarred i was, it felt as if something was there, i couldnt see anything but when you just have that feeling. i just wanted to close my eye's like when i was a child pulling the bed covers over me! (not that a cover is going to stop a thing from the living dead! hehehe) but u just did it anyway. then i heard screaming but not like you would think?! like real screaming! i pulled out my mob (for our american friends "Cell Phone") but they was no signal in the tunnel! but i turned my cam phone on but the light on the mob would come on!!! the battery was full! then something happend thats still make me scared even now, i was pushed onto my side and dragged across the ground for a couple of feet! and then the light came on on my phone my lighter popped! and i felt they was nothing there anymore? the next thing i was like forest gump running like mad! falling all over the place in the dark. i reached the exit and my mates was talking to some girls! typical and i come running out of this dark tunnel like f*cking swamp thing! but my mates faces just dropped and i heard one of the girls say "oh my god" i had cig burns all over my face and body even under my clothes! thats was marked!. The police in all there wisdom!!!! said it was my mates messing around UNTIL they checked the CCTV footage at the entrances nobody 16 hours before or after left that tunnel apart from me! plz u guys give me something to work with plz! cheers.

First of all, I could explain everything in your story. I do have one comment, though. I don't really believe the police studied 16 hours of footage for someone who was dared to enter the tunnel. And your friends were at the site when it happened? The same friends who dared you? I don't know. If I was a cop and got this call, I'd just put it down as a prank and case closed. I'm not sure why they told you there was nothing in the video 16 hrs prior to your experience. Maybe they did look at it and just didn't see anything. Anyway, I wasn't there, but here's what I think.

First, unfortunately, I smoke, too. I've had many instances where my cig would go out for no apparent reason. It happens. If the cig got wet, yes it could go out. Now (and I've done this), if you try to relight, you can get a couple of drags off, but it can still go out.

Second, you're in a dark tunnel where a murder occured, and your friends have dared you to enter. They've probably psyched you out a bit beforehand, and if they didn't, you've still had previous thoughts about this place to the point that when you enter, you're not thinking with a clear head. So, you're scared already.

Then, you think you see what could be "orbs". Let's examine this. You're in a tunnel that (if I'm right) has a dirt floor. Maybe water dripped on your cig when you entered (dripping from the entranceway?), but once your in, it's probably dry. You're stirring up dust. Especially if you slid down the wall (in which case your feet have "pushed" the dirt away from you. Fine dirt could create a kind of "smoky mist".

Next, you heard a scream. You said when you came out, there were girls there. This could've been any one of the folks you were with trying to freak you out.

Then, you couldn't get a signal from your phone. Not uncommon in tunnels.

You were pushed over and dragged, then your phone came on. The physical attack could've been, again, one of your friends. It's entirely possible that you were so intent on your fear as well as your cell phone, that any one of your friends could've approached you and you didn't notice. Meanwhile, you've been dragged maybe closer to the end of the tunnel where your phone reception is again working.

Now for the cigarette burns. This is a little harder to explain, but I'll try. I'll give your friends the benefit of the doubt here and say they didn't burn you. However, while your being dragged and whatnot, chances are you've dropped your cigarette. I've been startled and dropped my cig down my shirt (believe it or not). and with you rolling around on the ground, you could've sustained multiple burns. Maybe your cig didn't go out completely the second time? This part of my explanation, I'll admit, is reaching. But it could happen. I'm just hesitant to believe something paranormal happened when only one thing is "iffy" and everything else can be easily explained.

Also, you said your "lighter popped"? I have had this happen before. I don't know what causes it, but here's what happened. I was standing in my yard smoking. I dropped my lighter and the entire metal assembly on top flew one way while the rest of it went another direction. I think it may have been the angle at which it landed. It made a popping noise and scared me to death. I hadn't thrown it with any force or anything, just dropped it by accident.

So, in conclusion, I'll tell you this. Don't worry about it. And for your own peace of mind, don't go into tunnels by yourself in the dark.

One other thing, all my life I've been scared of the dark and have calmed myself by hiding under the covers (stupid for a 31-yr-old, I know). I don't get under all the way now, but my feet HAVE to be covered. That was until I saw "The Grudge". If you haven't seen it yet, and you still feel comfortable under the covers, don't watch it. thumbsup.gif

Texas Chainsaw Massacre probably.

Sounds an interesting experience. I wouldn't mind going down that tunnel. I doubt tht someone was murdered there cos if they were it would've been closed off (or was it?)

The Grudge is a freaky film. Both of them. I left the lights and tele on all night after watching that film blink.gif

Ahh well your reasoning is pretty convincing beside that part about the cig burns. Look, one single cig can burn you at diffrent places but all over the face and body? And without burning his clothes (as far as I know)? I doubt it man... there's like one chance out of a zillion that such thing happen...

He also said the cig was dead. I mean, it COULD have been only partially dead but I think he would have noticed since he's probably an experienced smoker. Even partially lighted cigs do make smoke and you couldn't NOT notice it especially if you take drags.

Naahhh, something is wrong here. Either way, it's pretty creepy.

But in the dark you're not really gonna see the smaoke unless the end of your ciggy got bright.

The face burns. You could have spat the ciggy out and have it land on your face then roll down your shirt but you wouldn't have realised that because you were too worried about being dragged by some spirit.

The mobile losing signal, It'll happen very easily.

Well, I warned you guys the cig burns were a little hard to explain (unless the friends did it). Another thought occured to me last night (I hate it when I can't explain something). Was there maybe a homeless person in there before you went in? It would explain the yell and the attack if you're sure your friends didn't do it. I seriously hoping it wasn't the killer still hanging around. hmm.gif

Ya know you really dont want me to sleep at night do you! hahahaha
thats a big possibilty about an homeless person!
i mean i used to laugh at my sister for believing in ghosts but now....im not so sure anymore. something im sure i should of mentioned before, but the murder was not "a normal murder" it was a kinda slow vengance gang killing, like he pissed another gang off and so on. the media said it did'nt look like he meant to kill him but got abit carried away (although it was just one man) now the really far fetched bit is he torchered him with Cig burns!!!! i know its hard to believe, thats why i didnt say anything before. thats why the cops really got involved. now the tunnel entrances are blocked off.
fell free to get back to me, thanks. Chris.
Nadia Blue
Hey, Bootboy! I'm trying to GIVE you a reason to be able to sleep at night! grin2.gif Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that it was the ghost (OOOOOOH) of the person that was killed taking revenge on a hapless wanderer (that would be you). If that's the case, wouldn't the ghost stay at the tunnel and wait for the killer? Certainly it wouldn't follow you home. Let's say this is what happened. You've learned a valuable lesson -- Don't walk into dark tunnels. You're away from there now, so try not to worry about it.

I know, it's rather crass to just say "Don't worry about it". I, myself, had what I think is an encounter. I posted it on this board hoping someone could explain it away, thus making me feel better. Didn't happen, so I still worry about it. Anyway, I hope you can come to terms with this.

Also, Texas Chainsaw Massacre wasn't really scary to me. I've seen much scarier films. TCM was just more on the "unsettling" side. happy.gif

Dude, you've told us this was a killing involving a gang. If you know the killer, and they were part of a gang, a ghost encounter should be the last of your worries. blink.gif Anyway, I highly doubt there are gang members hanging out in the sewers waiting for folks to walk into the tunnel.

But then again, hmmmm, initiation maybe? You've got me thinking. I guess that's as possible an explanation as any other. Perhaps the murder was committed by a wannabe gang member (no relation to wannabeskeptic, I assure you). Initiation, not a bad conclusion. The manholes could very well allow one to enter and exit the tunnel unnoticed by cameras. There you go! We've solved the reason for the crime AND your encounter. Now you can sleep well knowing a ghost did not attack you. It was just someone trying to torture you to death to gain acceptance by a gang. thumbsup.gif I know you're feeling better already. innocent.gif
Skriker
Yeah, I'd have to agree. Sheesh, this turning into a personal arguement or what? Anyway, don't worry about it. And if you can't sleep, stop watching scary movies! tongue.gif
Nadia Blue
I wasn't trying to argue or harass. I looked again at my posts and I don't think the sentiment in which I was trying to convey my opinion came across. Unfortunately, I like messing with people, but in writing, it doesn't always have the desired effect. If Bootboy were here in person, believe it or not, I would've put him at ease (but not without screwing with him first devil.gif )

Bootboy, at this point, just try not to worry about it overmuch. One day, it'll just be a story you can tell your grandkids when they're being bad. "If you don't behave, I'm gonna leave you in the tunnel." tongue.gif

And, Skriker, anyone who loves scary movies like I do, HAS to watch them. So, maybe I lose a little sleep, but it's fun. wub.gif

Hey, Bootboy. I've never been to England (or anywhere overseas for that matter), so I couldn't tell you how different it is. I will say this, though. Lots of people think of Florida as being the retirement state for Canadians. While this is certainly true of many cities here, it's not entirely accurate. We do actually have "native Floridians". grin2.gif And I'm not referring to Indians. Florida, contrary to popular belief, is actually filled with, god forbid, Southerners. Most people I talk to on the phone think I'm from Georgia (because of my accent) and are shocked when I tell them where I'm from. I've even heard, "I didn't know people in Florida had a southern accent like that." rofl.gif

Even so, coming from England, I'll assume you have an English accent, and thus should have no problem with the ladies (if that's what you're into--no offense). What part of Florida are you coming to? Maybe I could point you in the direction of a real close encounter. wink2.gif

Of course you love women tongue.gif . One can never be sure, though. As for your accent, it doesn't really matter to us redneck ladies. Anything unusual is good. Actually, I'm going on a road trip this weekend to Cedar Key. Have to visit relatives. That's a nice ghosty town for anyone interested. Here's a cool link, let's see if I can do this right.

Someone's pulling your leg laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif . You can't buy beer in McDonald's. And don't let anyone tell you to run in a zig zag line if you're being chased by a gator, either. Oh, and snipes don't exist.

Hmmm. I'll assume you'll be renting an RV and not buying? I've never heard of this, but was sure it could be done. You can do a google search. This is what I turned up (one thing )

Cruise America RV rentals

The only problem I could think of would be needing a Driver's License? I'm not sure how folks from overseas get around over here, but you're not the first one to visit. Maybe someone will chime in here. IF you solve all the problems and are able to get an RV, there are camping grounds all over the US that have hookups (electricity, water, sometimes even cable, etc.) Do some internet research. They're usually pretty cheap.

One other thing. If you like to drink, keep in mind that you
A) have to be 21
cool.gif in some places you can't buy alcohol on Sundays. Especially down south.

Where to get booze (assuming you're over 21)
Down south, just about any kind of store. Convenience stores, grocery stores (markets), bars, clubs, the usual places.

Up north, the usual party spots, and in some states (NY and PA that I know of for sure), you have to go to what's called a "beer distributor".
