if you could go back in time and witness 5 past events of historic preportions, what would those be and why?
here are mine.
1-jesus being crucified-self expanitorty i think.
2-jfk's murder-who or what really did it?
3-how the earth was created.-was it really the big bang?
4-pearl habor attack by the japs-12/7/41-as a history buff,i'd have to see it.
5-first nuclear test in desert.-would love to have seen dr oppenheimer's face when he saw the enormity of what he had created.

1) Lincoln's assassination (I've "seen" JFK's lots of times).
2) The control room at TMI when the sh** hit the fan that day.
3) The battle at Gettysburg...I don't think books and movies have done it justice.
4) The day on Roanoke Island when everyone disappeared.
5) The sinking of the Titanic....just to see how accurate the theories are.
**thought of one more: The Salem Witch Trials, that had to be some fascinating stuff

i never even thought of that to witness.were you living there during the almost china syndrome?are there high cancer rates in that area???

Jun 22 2005, 11:43 PM
No, I was living in the midwest when that happened. I've been here for 18 years and it was by all accounts a terrrifying experience. It's been said that the areas surrounding Middletown have one of the highest cancer rates either in the state or in the whole country, I'm not sure. I've been fishing downstream from the island and I kid you not, there are some mighty strange looking fish in the Susquehanna River. I've heard we were something like less than an hour away from a nuclear catastrophe. But there are so many rumors surrounding what really happened, I'd just love to go back and be the proverbial fly on the wall.

i think that a lot more went on there that is known!i would'nt eat anything or drink anything out that river.it was a very scary moment for everybody in america.we
were lucky that jimmy carter is a nuclear engineer.having a president who could actually understand what he was being told had to have helped.

The russians ?
If i was gonna go back in time i'd go back to tunguska with a video camera. not too close obviously. lol
then krakatoa with a video camera and then that loud moment when the walls of jerusalem fell with a videocamera and then the yukatan with a video camera and then if i could fit it in i'd go to the big bang with a video camera.
Then i'd retire on the profits from selling the footage to independant media companies safe in the knowledge that unlike every other time traveller you ever heard of i'm smart enough to profit from time travel without causing a paradox.

Am I allowed to interact? Can I be hurt/killed? Such vauge rules..
Assuming on some type of spiritual time travel, where I can't be hurt, or effect the time line, I'd go to:
1. D-Day
2. The conception of Jebus..
3. Pompeii
4. I'd take a trip to the Mayan Empire in it's prime.
5. Egypt when the pyramids were built.
Physical travel, regardless if I interrupt the timeline:
1. Mayan Empire
2. I agree with: The Burning of the Library of Alexandria.
3. Pyramids
4. Lincoln Headshot
5. Declaration of Independance.
And given a choice, I'd stop in the 50's and stay there.
Edit: Swapping both number (2) around.. I just realized the serious "Jesus, I am your father" situation that could create..

#2. approx 12,000 y.b.p. (I would like to see the end of the last ice age, the storm that was the "great flood", and antarctica when there was no ice there, it used to be subtropical ya know, all these event do not correlate to the same day I know but i would stick around and wait for all of them, it's only like 1,000 in between all events.)
#3. the pyramids being built
#4. The tunguska event, ufo, comet, whatever, that had to be SOME sight.
#5. Roswell "incident"
Then at a close 6th, and I wouldn't have thought of it unless I read it on Neo2005's post, the "war of the worlds" broadcast!! Good call buddy, it would be especially sweet becuase everybody would be panicked and you would know it wasnt for real.

Every favorite I'd have is on these lists. My 5 favorites from your lists are Jesus' crucifixion/ressurection/miracles (but not conception, that isn't a visible event, is it?); building of the pyramids; actual Roswell crash and follow-up events re. the US Air Force coverup; building of Stonehenge; death of King Tut.
My OWN extra choice is: I would like to see my mother and father meeting for the first time. It was during WW2. And I'd also love to see the day my bratty mother, as a teenager, got slapped in the face by her father for being sassy. She ran out of the house screaming. Her daddy had to buy her a new dress and beg her to come home. This is a "third hand" tale I got from an uncle of mine. Issues, issues. LOL.
About Atlantis: I'd make it my second choice (after Jesus) to see Atlantis! But Plato didn't see Atlantis first hand. His father got the story on travels to Egypt and little-boy Plato overheard the grown men discussing it when dad got home from Egypt. Isn't that how it was?

Thats right it was little boy Homer who wrote about it after hearing it from his daddy at bedtime one night while drinking warm milk and nibbling on a chocolate hob nob.
Homer went on to write stories about wooden horses and appeared in the simpsons.
At a much later point in history this other guy called socrates came along and stole the whole idea and wrote it down. He evaded the copyright from homers story by using his delinquent son Platos ankithyrean time machine went back and registered his one first. He also posed as a priest in egypt and told the story to Homers daddy in thje first place thus ensuring he got 100 % profits from any future sales.
Plato Died when he went too far back one time and crashed into the yukutan.
still made a nice big bang anyway. He had one son who's nickname "offthewristalot" led to him being known as "Aristotle".
But thats another story
It's a long one and has elves in it.

As for Socrates.
