CLAUDE, TX -- A massive crack in the earth opened up last week in Claude, Texas and it's creating a stir among geologists.

Geologists said Tuesday the crack was a joint in the earth's crust. They believe the opening is the result of a weak point in the joint where one spot slips away from the other.

Some parts measure more than 30-feet deep and it drained what used to be a pond. Experts say earth cracks are common but the size of the crack in Claude is not.

It will be very scary if the crack gets bigger it could cause something serious.

I live in Texas right now and I have seen cracks like that many places. Later they become creeks.

But to hate a state because of some of the bad people in it is just, hypocritical.

I'm pretty sure you don't know the definition of a hypocrite....

how bout they just use that plumbers caulk, or whatever that stuff on TV is that repairs cracks.

I will venture a guess that they occur because we have the craziest weather down here. I will rain like mad for a week then be bone dry for a month. Right now it has been 98+ degrees each day for a month with no rain. It can drive you batty.
So those cracks most likely happen due to the extremes of temp and humidity we get. Makes swimming an anytime activity, night or day.
Most Texans with time and money head north for the summer. Colorado is full of them.

My sister lives in Texas. I would hate for her to be swallowed by a crack in the Earth. Some people in this thread have said that it would be great for the whole state of Texas to be destroyed because GWB was born and raised there, way to be compassionate towards the people that live there now.

I find it funny that a thread concerning geological anomalies can still turn into a Bush bashing party. The fact that mentioning the man's home state can make others wish every citizen of said state should die goes against, at least what I thought, what Bush haters stand for in the first place. I thought the Bush bashing mentality came from an idea that we did not want people to die.

Saying that Texas might as well be wiped off the face of the planet and nothing will be lost is just as horrid as saying that blowing an entire country back to the stone age is acceptable. Bigotry is contagious. That is quite evident here through posts made on the first page.
