ahhh i got something kinda wierd . time travel. say u went back in time in 2005 and u went back to the year 1950. when u go back . where would u go cuz in the year 1950, there will be no technology that has a portal waiting for people from the future. and say . u were livin in the 1950's and someone came from the future. where did all that time go between 1950-2005? if u went back in time. wouldnt it be just dead? it is the past... im just confused!!!! =)

it depends on which theory you apply it to, but Idon't know many theories, but if you count the 4 th dimension as time an what not, it's still there but you just jumped.

what that is a hard one i don't know were the time would go good question! rofl.gif

Wormholes are an excellent example of what happens with time travel. You open a wormhole in 1955, and suddenly a strange man comes through it... you have no idea who he is so you run like hell hearing him laughing at you. then you wait fifty years(2005), and when your about to die and you really want to screw up the space-time continuum you go jump into your wormhole(which teleports you back to the exact second you created it in 1950) and whalla, your staring at the younger version of yourself in 1955. Then, your idiot younger version takes off horrified, and you crack up in hilarity at yourself for being such a nincompoop for not realising who that strange old man was fifty years ago. You have yourself a good laugh and then start to work having kids with every woman you can find...

This doesnt actually answer the question of where the time goes, but theoretically the time wouldnt "go" anywhere, you would simply be taking a step into a wormhole which on the other side would be connected(through warped space) to 1955. The wormhole would circumvent not only space, but time as well.

If it were ever going to be possible, maybe we'd have seen a time-traveler already? I read a piece that to make a time machine, we'd need an engine that could travel the speed of light+, but to get this we'd need an massive engine, which would be heavy and slow us down, so what we'd effectively need is an anti-gravity shield.

But how would we direct ourself backwards through time? How would we know where we were going?
Darkfire Angel
well my theory is that even if you could reach light speed you need some sort of shielding to the pure g-force of obtaining this speed. but lets say you manage to go back in time. then you for example, kill brutus before he kills ceaser. then that would never caesar would not have been killed by brutus. but then you would never have gone back in time in the first place, but then caesar would die by brutus and you would have gone back, etc etc... anyway for time alteration to be possible there would need to be several timelines... if so you kill brutus and return to your timeline where much has changed, yet caesar still lives in another. its real confusing... geek.gif geek.gif geek.gif

It is impossible to accelerate something to the speed of light, its that simple. According to general relativity the conversion of energy to speed grows exponetially, meaning you can accellerate a particle(in a particle accelerater) to 99% the speed of light, but to get that one extra percent it would take an infinite amount of energy, so unless you had an energy source that could produce more energy than this universe currently has(which is agian impossible because energy can not be created, nor destroyed) your out of luck. However time travel is still possible through a few other methods.

1) open a wormhole in 1950, fly it close to the speed of light in a spacecraft(not impossible) a few lightyears away, then come back. Then all you have to do is step into your tyime machine and your back to the year 1950 when you originally created the wormhole... staring at yourself.

2) im not sure how this one works, but if you have a massive spinning cylinder it will stretch not only the space around it but it will cause whats called frame dragging, which means when a object is spinning(just as a massive object distorts space-time like a bowling ball on a matress) it "twists" the space-time around it. Flying into the twisted area at precise moments could theoretically cause the space-time around you to flip, and you would fly out before you had ever set out to fly into the twist.

thqats sucha interesting question id have to think about that... before i go and reply!
