crime for me: reservoir dogs, pulp fiction, goodfellas, the godfather, the usual suspects need i go on? i can't get enough of those guys and their crazy capers

Fantasy... which I notice has been neglected in the poll

Horror is okay as long as its a monster movie, I don't find ghosts or axe-murderers remotely interesting.

War is good as long as its WW2 and preferable dealing with the Nazi/Soviet War.

Sci-Fi can be okay, depends on the movie, often they tend to have a dark vision of the future I don't really want to see. Terminator, Alien, Star Wars and Star Trek all good for example, but there are a lot of Turkey's out there.
Super Pancake
I like independent/experimental/underground films and animation.
Talon
I only like Japanese animation. And again, depends on the genre. Shoujo, Shoujo-ai animes are best. Followed by comedy and fantasy animes. Sci-fi animes like Ghost in the Shell can be good, but others like Akira suck.
Paranoid Android
I voted sci-fi 'cos it rocks, but the best movies are those that really can't be pidgeon-holed into a specific genre (perhaps if there was an "other" choice in the poll.....)

Ah well, all the best.

I love Japanese animation is cool I love the sci-fi can't get enough of ghost in the shell, comedy is great also FLCL, his and her circumstances, etc, but in general I like all anime.

I watch a lot of anime but I still don't get what is the difference of shoujo, shoujo-ai animes with regular drama anime.

So no one's into thrillers?? What kind of people are you?? wink2.gif

Shoujo is 'girl' ai is 'love'

So shoujo anime is anime either directed at female viewers or has a female oriented cast. I don't watch most shoujo myself I must admit as its such a wide area, but its the Magic Girl sub-genre such as Pretty Cure, Magical Project S, Card Capter Sakura etc I like.

Shoujo-ai is 'Girl love' and covers any show which includes elements of lesbian romance... which includes Card Captor Sakura, Utena, Maria-sama ga Miteru, Battle Athletes and a hell of a lot of other animes. Shoujo-ai titles tend to actually belong in other genres just collected under that title to make it easier to find them. Their fan base is actually quite varied, some are for family viewing and are just Romantic Dramas were it just happens to be two girls rather than a girl/boy e.g. Maria-sama ga Miteru (which was huge in Japan in its day with all ages and both genders), but interestingly enough it also appears in animes directed for mainly girls like Sailor Moon, Card Captor Sakura, and Utena. I think its a way that the girls can watch a romance story, while feeling conected two both characters (i.e they're both girls), yet not feeling they have to take sides (i.e. they don't feel like they always have to side with the girl over a guy). Male-oriented anime also has a lot of shoujo-ai in it, often just contained for fanservice (because many guys get a kick out two girls making out thumbsup.gif ) such as Negima, others because it means they can watch a romantic story without having to mentally block out the presence of another guy... who does not interest us in the slighest.

Peronally I just like the cute animation styles in Shoujo anime and the fact they usually have a happy ending.
And Shoujo-ai relationships are just so cuuuuute wub.gif

I don't like post apocoliptic stuff like MD Geist and Blue Gender. I have massive collection, about 700 + DVDs... I've actually haven't counted them in months so its probably closer to 760.

I like anything. Noir is a rather dark anime about assassins. Magical Project S is a really cute story about a girl with magic powers saving the planet. Najica is just James Bond with a female character who wears skirts. Negima is an comedy about a child-wizard teaching a class of really bizare children. Full metal panic is a mech-action series. and the list goes on.
Super Pancake
Well thanks for explaining it to me, I guess I should look at my collection of about 350+ anime dvds and try to spot the differences. Card Captor Sakura I can already see the difference between that one and Jungle de Ikou laugh.gif .

lol MD Geist is probably the worst anime to ever been made user posted image

I've heard of Najica, Negima, and ownI own all of the full metal alchemist series on dvd.

Is Magical Project S good like you would but it up there with other great fantasy animes like Spirited away, Kiki's delivery service, Princess Mononoke, or is it like another Sailor Moon

sorry for being off topic everybody.
Neo2005
I would choose Thriller.
But as it seems there is no american filmaker who can make an acuall thriller.
They have the surprise scare tactics.
So i chose action
theoric
i prefer the movies that break the genre molds. most importantly i prefer the movies that are not linear and predictable (the movies that could end several different ways and still flow).

(i am notorious for not watching movies in their entirety. i think maybe 1 in 20 is about my ratio of completely watched to incompletely watched movies.)
AztecInca
Besides musicals and romance films I love different films from all the film genres but Sci-fi would have to be my favourite.
nativechick1989
I voted for 'HORROR'.

I had a hard time between war and horror. I finally picked War though because that is what I mostly watch anyways.

I never got into full metal alchemist myself. I've only seen Disk 1 and just don't really get the attraction.

Najica is good, not the greatest anime of all time, but its enjoyable.

Negima is actually better in the Manga, its a comedy/fanservice series, but the director of the anime version decided to do his own version of it, which killed it really. The Manga is massive in Japan, and the Anime was scedueled for 52 episodes and started off with high ratings, but around epsisode 10 it was becomming clear that the director was not following the Manga thinking somehow he could improve it. All he did was kill of the fanbase, lower the ratings and get it cancelled at 26 epsiodes. The Manga also spent about half of it on the relationship between Konoka and Setsuna (the girls in my avatar) who are so obviously shoujo-ai. But the anime took their main character status, tore it up and tossed their entire story into 2 episodes. The director also at the end decided to make it dark and killed off one of the main characters......... and this anime is based on a comedy manga where nothing bad ever happened... did he even read the book?! huh.gif

Anyway, Negima's an okay anime. I'm enjoying it, but the director obviously doesn't know what he's doing, and the Manga is so much better. Its done by the same manga-ka as Love Hina.

Spirited away, Kiki's delivery service, & Princess Mononoke are all Studio Gilbi classics, they're like the Classic Disney movies of the Anime world (as in family orientated, high quality, well told stories). thumbsup.gif

Magical Project S is a spin-off series of Tenchi Muyo which takes Sasami turns her into a Sailor Moon rip off Pretty Sammy, makes a new character Misao Amano and turns her into a Hotaru Tomoe rip-off, and then proceeds to make a cute series that is so obviously taking the micky out of everything from Sailor Moon to Power Rangers (seriously, they devote an ep to a show called COOL RANGERS). happy.gif
I like it and think its cute, but its a comedy magic girl series using the Tenchi cast, its not comparable to any of the 3 Gilbi movies you mentioned, and to fair its not trying to compare with them. It is better than Sailor Moon though.

Technically we're still on topic huh.gif We're discussing media, we're discussing genres of media. We're just focusing on Japanese media rather than Western. grin2.gif

Thank you again Talon, I just wanted to know if I should spend almost $100 dollars on both vol. 1 & 2 of Magical Project S it sounds like a great series if its a Tenchi spin off.
Talon
Its only in Japanese though. It depends on your taste, I love it, but I'd recomend checking it out first before spending $100 on it. Thats a lot of money. You should probably look up a few google shots to see if the look takes your fancy.

There is also another Tenchi Spin off called Pretty Sammy, which is a three ep long version of Magical Project S which is in English (same voice cast as Universe, although Misao's English actress is aweful... I tend to flip to Japanese whenever she appears, then flip back to English when its everyone else) and has more reference to the Tenchi cast than MPS. So that may be a cheaper way of seeing if you like it, plus, it also has the Kiyone/Mihoshi Universe special on that DVD too;

Blood Lust
Horror, definitely. That's just about all I watch. original.gif
