I recently witnessed what I believe to have been a meteorite burning out through the atmosphere, big deal you say, what the strange thing was is that it burnt out low and horizontal to the horizon, lasting for about thirty seconds.
It occurred when I was driving from Canberra to Sydney in australia, just on dusk, burning an intense orange red, travelling low and fast until it vanished behind mountains, has anyone witnessed anything to the likes of what I have explained???

Yes yes yes same here about 3 years ago i saw something like that when i was taking out the trash except it was more blue and white, and it disapeared in the mid air.

I don't think meteorites have intelligent life forms controlling them!

I dont think anyone was implying this.

what you saw sounds like a fireball, i saw one during a meteor shower in august, it moved very slow, made no sound and was brighter than hell, spewing purple and red colors as it went by, disappearing in mid air. was a beautiful and rare sight.

You misunderstand me, if he saw an object disappear in mid air (violet), then I doubt it would have been a meteorite, even if they break up I would have thought you would have been able to see something.

i also live in australia and i also saw SOMETHINGlike that, but this object looked controled
it was a darkish orange slowly pulsing on and off in to darkness
just still in one spot right above
then slowly head for the horizon still slowly pulsating till it disapeared over the horizon

just put my mind on y our story

Did it move like a shooting star or was it more controlled, i have never seen what you are talking about, but it sounds neat, what time of year was it?

Ah yes I've seen something of the sorts before, it's a very beautiful thing to see.

I was in the jacuzzi looking up at the night sky when I saw a far off meterote shoot across the sky, it was going so fast it was actually difficult to tell the color (Whitish it seemed most like).

The biggest meteor I ever saw was about 5 years ago in Indiana. It seemed to move incredibly slow; so slow it looked as though it was floating rather than falling. I assume because the nose was burning out slower than the tail, it gave an illusion of slow movement. Most of the material burned away while some hit the ground leaving an interesting crater. I remember thinking it looked like a huge tree on fire. Traffic had come to a grinding halt in the middle of the interstate and people called the radio station I was listening to shouting about the end of the world. It was quite an amazing sight to see. wink2.gif

I've seen something similar as well.

Years ago I was talking to a friend out the front of her house, we had just finished walking my dogs and it was dark.
Something caught our attention, even the dogs we all turned and watched a bright orange ball of flames move slowly on a direct course over our heads and behind her house. It just kept going until it was out of sight.

Someone suggested it may have been a burning home made balloon ( practical jokers ) but this was moving across the sky in a direct line, something which a home made joke couldn't do.

To this day I still don't know what it was.

i am 100% sure what i saw was a controled object

judging from the way it stayed exactly in the same spot for a long period of time, then started moving in straight line quite slowly till dissapearing over the horizon

Meteors can and do burn out and disappear in mid air.
A few years back my daughter and I stayed up all night watching the Leonid meteor shower. It was the most spectular meteor shower I've ever seen, with meteors appearing to be as big as the moon (with the naked eye) and of every colour imaginable, streaking across the sky every few seconds at the height of it. Most of them did disappear in mid air.

Edit: Actually the Leonid became a meteor storm that year (2001). There were also particle clouds flashing blue, green, yellow and pink in the sky. It was amazing! yes.gif

Sounds like a piece of space debris returning back to Earth..?
