Farmer 'lifted in air' by tornado

user posted image
The tornado in Thirsk was captured on film by eyewitnesses

A farmer has said he was lifted off the ground with his cattle trailer by a tornado in North Yorkshire - the second "twister" to hit the county in a week.

Albert Parker was sheltering by the trailer near the A64 just north east of York when he was lifted into the air and then dropped to the ground.

He was not injured but was shaken by the experience.

Eyewitnesses on the York to Scarborough road who called BBC Radio York said the tornado moved with frightening force.

There were no initial reports of any injuries but some buildings alongside the A64 were damaged.

Last Thursday, residents in the North Yorkshire market town of Thirsk witnessed a tornado - less than two weeks after the town was hit by flash floods.

Meteorologists at nearby RAF Leeming who monitored the phenomenon said it was technically a funnel cloud because it did not make contact with the ground.

I have seen a few tornados and they are both scary and fascinating at the same time.

I could not help but notice this

But the article also said this

IMO if a tornado is strong enough to lift something from the ground then it did make contact with the ground.

BTW.... I bet that guy was leaving brown piles on the ground!

They had these kinds of stories on TV 2 nights ago - some "extreme weather' thing. Some lady's car got picked up and dropped in a tree two miles away. Some 9 month old baby got sucked up out of the front yard as her mother was running to get her. Luckily, a neighbor found the baby - completely unhurt but very dirty - about 2 streets away.

An F-1 or 2 tornado can easily lift a human off the ground without making contact with the Earth. Trust me, I grew up and still live in Indiana, just at the top of the tornado alley highway. Tornadoes are very powerful and will f*uck you up if you are not careful.
