I like classical music. I really like Beethoven

I also like listening to soundtracks from films because it is all down in an orchestra.

Wagner, Chopin, Beethoven, John Williams...
I like romanticising Bach. My piano teacher (when I took lessons) would tell me I can't do that to Bach, but it sounded so awesome.
I like playing Rachmininov. I don't particularly like listening to his music, but it's fun to play.
All the best,
Talon

I like Jazz music, it was the reason I got into western classical music because it did influence modern jazz (Harmony and Chordal arrangements) I grown to like Bela Bartok, Igor Stravinsky some people would argue they are more modern players and cant compare with the earlier composers

I also like the ones mentioned above. Sometimes I can't stand the music in todays brainwashed society its hard to sit down and listen to it for more then 25 mins.

i agree with you! modern-music has no soul anymore, and it would hurt some people if they just sat still for 22 minutes and listen to Mahler's Kindertotenlieder or just maybe a snippet of Beethoven's Canata on the death of Joseph II...
...oh well, i just saw a flying pig...

I'm only a month old on this board, so am glad to see this thread, even if it is a bit older.
I like Vivaldi, Ravel, Beethoven, Bach. Anything soothing, dreamy and romantic especially. Or anything etheric like Debussey that could be meditated to. What I don't like is screeching offkey violins or horror-style organ music.
The only station I play while driving is classical and that's what I listen to while I bathe (oops, hope that's okay to say).

My favorite classical radio show is Guitar Alive on Sundays at 3 p.m. - all Spanish Classical Guitar.

Well, I know this is an old post, but...
I did the same thing once, and then my music teacher told me that you can't romanticize Bach...I replied "Well, he did have 23 kids you know. He must have been some kind of a romantic.".
He never argued with it again.

One of my favorite's is --Jean Sibelius~Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D minor, Op. 47... I. Allegro moderato. Great stuff from the early 1900's.
Also, anything from Mozart, but I especially like the Andante piece from Sinfonia Concertante KV 364 for violin and viola.
Chopin's Noturnes have heavily influenced me.
And of course, Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, and many others.

The Sibelius has it's charms, not least of which being fiendishly difficult to play, but in terms of personal preference for 20th century violin concertos I much prefer Bruch's 1st or even Barber's. Alban Berg's violin concerto is interesting for being the only 12-tone piece of music I can listen to without wanting to kill myself to escape the agony. Gang Chen's Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto deserves an honorable mention.
I agree that the Sinfonia Concertante is amazing, especially because it's the only violin(/viola) concerto for which we have Mozart's original cadenzas. Some of the cadenzas we hear applied to his five violin concertos are just waaay too romantic. The other problem with modern performances, especially on recordings, of Mozart violin concertos is that a lot of the more subtle nuances to Mozart are foregone in favor of virtuosity. Yes, the Mozart concertos do sound impressive when you play them like a hummingbird on crack, but Mozart would not have intended that.
Mendelssohn is a favorite composer of mine as well. I adore the Lieder ohne Worte, and the violin concerto never fails to impress, especially the second movement. His string octet is also amazing, especially given the age at which he composed it.

There is only one single piece of Classical music which I have listened to more than a few times and truly enjoy:
Toccata & Fugue in D minor, J.S. Bach
I will always love this song.

I listen to classcial music from time to time. But not all the time though. Of course they kinda sound all the same to me. The music in general is ok. My dad & he's friend Mr. Drew listens to it while they work.

I'm a Bach freak. To me there are times when his music is so beautiful that I can't believe a human created it. It's like... Milky Way beautiful. Grand Canyon beautiful.
I also like Beethoven and Chopin.

I love the works of Vivaldi,Tchaikovsky,Greig,Mozart and Wagner.
There are probably others, but I do not always recognize a piece...therefore unless I am told who it's from,it doesn't stick with me.I do like a lot of classical music though.
Lately I've been listening to music which has been transferred from the modern instruments into classical instruments.By this I mean the "String Quartet" tributes to modern bands such as Rush,Iron Maiden,The Beatles,Jimi Hendrix,Slayer,Kiss...and a host of others. It's not really surprising that the music can be played on the different instruments and sound great...but it is a bit strange to hear a classical style version of songs written by some of the bands. Some are very airy, some are light and jovial, some are dark and brooding, some are quite dark and angry.I've been collecting quite a few of these tributes, and so far I have enjoyed every one that I have listened to.

Bach is also my favorite with Wagner a close second. The top 5 is rounded off with Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn. I just got complete boxed sets of Bach and Mozart which is over 300 CD's between them so I have hours of listening to enjoy. My favorite works are Bach Brandenberg conertos, Mozart Requiem, Mendelsohn Violin Conerto, Beethoven Emperor Piano Concerto, and the entire Wagner Ring Cycle.
