May 18, 2005 · The White House says it is in the process of updating U.S. space policy. But it is denying a report suggesting that the new policy would move the U.S. toward the deployment of weapons in space. Senior Air Force officials, however, have said publicly that the U.S. must establish and maintain space superiority.

US doesnt own space so they shouldnt be allowed to do it period.
PadawanOsswe
well, not own space. but to set up planetary defense is a good idea IMO

Defence from what? Other humans or rocks and comets. I think we should set up a defense from rocks and comets, but not start an arms space race. I don't understand why we have to spend so much money on ways to kill our fellow humans. WW IV will be fought by ants and cockroaches over our dead bodies. mad.gif
FreyKade
will be the cockroaches and locusts i bet.
Thanato
I think they should set up an international body that acts similar to NORAD but watchs space for incoming comets and stuff, who knows the one that will kill us might be around the corner.

Who is to say who doesn't or who does own space?
The Silver Thong
A few Nations have already weaponized space. What we see here is a introduction to the idea, why would the military of any nation ask for permission from the public to do this??

Public outcry and political debate comes after the introduction..

If one Nation claims space, they claim the overview of the planet. Space is a means for exploration, by any who are able to do so, a monopoly in space will add to more strife...

Does the moon belong to the U.S. because there flag is there? NO
GrayWolf
Who is the owner of outer space?
No one is there for all of us. Why should anybody want to put weapons in space?
Some people think we need to protect ourselves from ET or meteors.
Or from each other. If we do put weapons in space who will be in control of these weapons. The U.S. the UN.NO one nation should be in control

Umm... because legally and officially no-one has any rights to any of it? The only way someone could stake a claim would be to do so illegally... therefore creating serious tension. w00t.gif

Therefore it the USA set up space weapons with the intention of pre-emptive strikes/defence from other humans... it would be a very bad thing, and would create a shipload of unease...
PadawanOsswe
well, space is the next frontier, and colonization in space/other planets is part of that. But I doubt it will happen without unity. we need unity really to do this.
Mr Ed
We really need money and better technology to do this.

So true Mr Ed.. thumbsup.gif
I agree with ya Graywolf..we need to protect ourselfs from meteors, astroids ect ect... original.gif

another thing the bible code said would happen..... it isn't done by mistake.
Adramaleck
I think that all countries should pitch in on a weapons platform to orbit earth. Leaders from contributing counties would have keys and you would need a certain number or all keys to use the platform, so it won't be used for war against humans.

America and Russia I believe have teamed up on that a while ago. We use their rockets and we use our warheads and the thingy towards earth goes bye-bye! tongue.gif

As for my comment before about "who is to say..." sorry about that... I forgot to put in the rolleyes.gif! laugh.gif Amazing how that looks missing one simple thing... blush.gif

Yeah, that isn't going to happen till the world is more peaceful and we have a network of countries all working together.

I still don't understand why we don't put our science resources together as one because are we not all looking for the same goal? blink.gif

Well of course it will be the next battleground, there will be humans there, I mean, really.........
