Hi, people, I wanted to ask a question:

How much do you think a largest mammoth would weigh, everybody it indicates that it was at least 4 meters high and 9-10 tons, but that's average, if we take african elephant as example, we have following: largest was 13 tons, average is about 6-7 tons, so, if we apply same calculations for Imperial mammoth we will have about 18-20 tons as maximum, do oyu agree people, and by the way, maybe any of you have found anything about largest specimen, pelase throw a link.

Thank you.

its possible, some animals can grow larger and heavier even if the same species

Well just double it, as you did with the elephant, it should be about the same, or at least i think it would be.it is a hard question because; there are none alive to judge by. maybe you can find something on the web, good luck. grin2.gif

THx, but I have n't found anything for now, only thing I found is: they were at lleast 4,3 meters high and weighed 9-10 tons, but usually largest specimen is 2 times larger than average, same with elepphants, and bears( largest was 2500+ pounds brought to Berlin, while average is 1200 pounds for Kodiak bear), maybe it is really 20 tons, it would be cool.

A full grown Woolly mammoth stood around 10 - 12 feet high at the shoulder and weighed in at 6 - 8 tons.  Despite connotations of the word "mammoth" indicating immense proportions, the Woolly mammoth is actually not the largest mammoth that ever lived.  The Imperial mammoth was the largest and the North American Columbian mammoth was even larger than the Woolly mammoth.  The Woolly mammoth was about the same size as a present day Indian elephant but with a layer of fat and fur.

Mammoths ranged in size from a dwarfed form (6 foot high) up to the Imperial mammoth that stood 14 feet high at the shoulder. Mammoth tusks curved downward. Both were covered in thick yellow-brown or reddish brown hair. These animals were vegetarians and probably feed primarily on leaves.
