The Chimeras

In cutting edge experiments scientists are in the process of creating human-primate chimeras which would allow the mingling of human brain cells into primates. Critics have complained that the experiments could lead to self aware subjects and create animals with super-animal intelligence. Hmm... did they make a movie about this?

Hmm, I remember suggesting this somewhere.....A REAL talking ape laugh.gif

Humans are primates. A blending of a human and another species of ape would glean much the same results as a blending of two trailor park cousins, one of whom was unusually hairy.

A REAL talking ape

For god's sake, Humans ARE apes. If you want to see a talking ape just look in a mirror

You know, i've always found the word 'primate' to be very ego statistical.

That's not a very-source relevant link. I could start a blog and create all sort of stories. rolleyes.gif I hope scientists are working towards a cure for cancer before splicing us up with a chimp.

Actually, in the newspaper this morning i did read about this. So as far as i'm aware it's at least something that they're thinking about doing.

WHat will actually happen though, is that they will be implanting human brain genes or something into that of an unborn ape to see if they can have it self-aware etc.
Shadowsleet
It was my understanding that all of the greater apes have a very highly developed sense of self. Not as developed as that of a human of course, but they are certainly aware of themselves as an individual.
BurnSide
It would be higher than that. Like, they would be aware they were a project, and they would be aware they were being used by humans for research, and also aware of possible termination after the project, etc etc. Something along those lines. So the project may not continue due to moral implications.
JennRose
Great, they will be aware they are a project... Then these super-smart monkeys will find a way to break out and go crazy! ph34r.gif

I've seen the movies!

Enfuse human with ape, they will try.

Do, or do not, there is no try.

Ok, then by your account scientists are conducting a completely unecessary experiment then? rolleyes.gif If you want to believe you are an ape please, don't let me stop you.

Now, what you obviously DON'T understand is what a Chimera actually is. Chimeras occur naturally (this has been recently discovered) as a result of DZ zygotes being too close and combining to make a single human being who may in different parts of their body have separate DNA. A chimera in effect then should have been a set of DZ twins, but intstead combined to make a singleton. It may occur in MZ's but that obviously cannot and probably will not ever be proven because the DNA would be identical, and can't be tested. What they are doing isn't therefore true chimerism, it's a strange branch off of the natural form.

I thought the same thing, I didn't see anything on that blog that had to do with this topic. I found it interesting that it came from a blog.
Shadowsleet
Ashley-Star*Child, why would the man pointing out that humans are apes/primates somehow make you assume he doesn't know what a chimera is? If you don't understand that humans are apes, then it is your knowledge of biology that I would call into question, not his.
Ashley-Star*Child
You are trying to get out of it. If you had known, you would have brought it up before I did. I know well and clearly what an ape is, and it is not a human being.
