user posted image rScientist Professor Richard Dawkins has opened a global conference of big thinkers warning that our Universe may be just "too queer" to understand. Professor Dawkins, the renowned Selfish Gene author from Oxford University, said we were living in a "middle world" reality that we have created. Experts in design, technology, and entertainment have gathered in Oxford to share their ideas about our futures. TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) is already a top US event. It is the first time the event, TED Global, has been held in Europe. Professor Dawkins' opening talk, in a session called Meme Power, explored the ways in which humans invent their own realities to make sense of the infinitely complex worlds they are in; worlds made more complex by ideas such as quantum physics which is beyond most human understanding.

"Are there things about the Universe that will be forever beyond our grasp, in principle, ungraspable in any mind, however superior?" he asked. "Successive generations have come to terms with the increasing queerness of the Universe." Each species, in fact, has a different "reality". They work with different "software" to make them feel comfortable, he suggested. Because different species live in different models of the world, there was a discomfiting variety of real worlds, he suggested.

He's got a good point here, but I would like to think that we would eventually be able to figure it out. We just need to think outside of the box, so to speak. I don't think anything is impossible, unless you label it so and don't try to seek out the truth, which would be ignorance. Interesting read.

I agree, there will always be more to learn, this must be the inevitable infinity which has always existed.

I am supprised at how the article says the micro, medium, and macro worlds are one, just as the first, second, and third world(countries)s are one.

I think that western society has an important responsobility to lead the world into the future, we need to realize that we are in controll of the destiny of civilization and that regardless of what we do we will be leading by example. If we are to be selfish, then humanity will be selfish. If we are to be compassionate, civil and peaceful then so will be the rest of humanity.

I quess I don't see why the Western Countrys need to (Lead) other Countrys in the betterment of Mankind . Some of these cultures are Thousands of years old, and it;s arrogant to think that the Western way of life is better or worse than some third world countrys.

I say if they wish to Raise Goats instead of Sky Scrappers, So be it. But don't Hate Me or Mine because we live more comfortably than others. When we try to help, we are resented and told to go home. w00t.gif

We all know that 'infinity' can boggle minds and frustrate us, Since we base everything on life, Meaning it must have a beginning and must have an end. Boggling me already.

I think the article is right, there may be things out of reach for us, if this Universe was created by a far superior intelligence then there's definitely things beyond our understanding.

Ultimatley the betterment of "mankind" Involves every man woman or child and does not exclude any society regardless of how they choose to live. The fact that western society has a higher quality of life is because we are free of tyranny, the people of another society do not choose to raise goats, they are forced to, they have no choice in regards to social conditions... I mean, unless they try to rebel (which some are in progress of doing).

All I say is that western society should realize their position, weather we like it or not we are leading the world into a technological revolution, we are ahead and we are in front we should embrace a global society as one instead of seperate factions struggling for more power then the next... the past is gone.

Oh I agree that in a Perfect World Everyone would work for the betterment of All Man kind. But the reality is that a hand full "Relatively speaking" of People in positions of Power and Authority that could care less about the Future of Man, Or Earth as a Whole. They are thinking of their own agendas, and will Kill any one who gets in their rode.

And from what I read, every Country, county, or Region has these individuals Screwing up any attempt at Global Unity. And when we go into Space, It wont be as a World, but as Cultures Colonizing in their Parent countrys Image.

Sounds like the makings of a Space War dont it? unsure.gif

The Möbius strip is often cited as the inspiration for the infinity symbol.

Well. in my thinking I agree with, what we think we create . Reincarnation ties into this thought. You commit suicide in one lifetime and in your next lifetime someone you love commits suicide. I've always said - "everyone has the chance to be everything", it just makes sense to me and also ties in with the infinity aspect w00t.gif
So all of the people on earth are creating endless possibilities, with thoughts. Now, what we need to do is create what we truly wish to see in the world. LOVE AND PEACE wub.gif And yes I know I can get way to sappy - sometimes.
Maybe we created the aliens, instead of the other way around alien.gif ohmy.gif

Quote "The Möbius strip is often cited as the inspiration for the infinity symbol."

Read again (from your link):"However, this may be apocryphal since the symbol had been in use to represent infinity even before the Möbius strip was discovered."

Sorry, had to make the correction original.gif
Peace
