I have to say I agree with those who think Dumbledore sacrificed himself and Snape's not really evil. Dumbledore seemed to have an insight that left no room for doubt...I just can't understand what it could be.

The ending sure did make me feel like Harry is getting ready to meet his doom in book 7. I bet Rowling will let him get killed. sad.gif
BurnSide
Well she said there will definately be no more books after number 7.
The only way to really ensure that the 'Harry Potter' books do not continue, is to be lost of 'Harry Potter'.

I'm not so sure.
Why would Snape have died if Draco died? Dumbledore would not have scarificed himself, i don't think he thought Snape would kill him.

Because of the Unbreakable Vow that Snape made with Narcissa. If Draco dies, Snapes vow to protect Draco would be finished, causing his death.

Unless I am mistaken and read the vow wrong.. Which could've happened too. lol
ABOTU
^good call I'll just say, like I said before, book 7 is gonna be a heavy book.

No you're right, i did forget about that. original.gif So i guess Dracos 'mission' was to kill Dumbledore? Which means that if Draco did not kill Dumbledore, and Snape didn't, Snape would have died from the Unbreakable Vow because he made the vow saying he would do anything in his power to help Draco with his mission.
Including, i guess, killing Dumbledore.
JennRose
And if Snape was still indeed siding with Dumbledore ultimately, Snape would have told him about the vow to protect Draco. Dumbledore would then know that he had to die in order to save Draco. Ah...it comes together!

Wow... Dumbledore was so awesome. crying.gif
BurnSide
A moment of silence, for Dumbledore.
Dementia
Ah well..it was decent thats what I would say. Really think that part 4 was the best so far. Though it was kind of predictable who would die in the end, i was really suprised by the fact that someone else had taken the horcrux when Harry finally gets it. Indeed that was a really nice twist

Have to say, book 7 has to be really long if she wants to tie up all the lose ends!

BurnSide
I was suprised with the length of Prince actually. Much shorter than Pheonix and shorter even than Goblet.
I loved Goblet too, easily my fav. grin2.gif
Dementia
How long do you think before, she comes up with part 7?

Going by recent reports, i bet it'll be within a years time...Btw..nice to see Ya (Burnside) as a moderator now..lol, its been ages since iv been to this board.
BurnSide
Thanks. I've been a mod for quite some time, so yes it has been ages. laugh.gif

I don't think she'll have the 7th out within a year. She said she had book 6 written when 5 was released, and it still took a good couple years.

Bought a copy on monday at the Llyodminister Walmart (or was it at Cold Lake? *sits there trying to remember*) only on chapter 9 though.(or is it chapter 8? *sits there again trying to remember*)

I have a theory!!! Dumbledore is tightly woven into the phoenix - is he not? Does that not mean Rising from the Ashes.

I predict that Dumbledore enchanted himself with something knowing that he was to be killed off - and in book 7 he will Rise Again.

As for Voldemort - I think Dumbledore and him will have to face off eventually.

Harry - In the end - Neville Longbottom has something to do with the ending.

But Harry or Neville is a Horcrux is my guess!

I finally finished reading it. It wasn't my favorite book, but it was definitely good. But WHY did they have to kill Dumbledore?! sad.gif Killing important wizards was so Harry Potter 5. If anyone, kill Professor Sprout. Also, did anyone else find that "I can't be with you, Ginny because Voldemort will find out" speech a bit Spiderman-ish? Good book though. Doubtlessly enjoyed it although half of the time, I was confused because it had been so long since I've read the last book.

And I'd have to agree with the theory that Snape is actually good, and merely killed Dumbledore to demonstrate his loyalty to Voldemort. There's always a second twist.

Anyone happen to remember this fragment from The Chamber of Secrets?
"So Ginny poured out her soul to me, and her soul happened to be exactly what I wanted... I grew stronger and stronger on a diet of her deepest fears, her darkest secrets. I grew powerful, far more powerful than little Miss Weasley. Powerful enough to start feeding Miss Weasley a few of my secrets, to start pouring a little of my soul back into her..."

Voldemort and Ginny made some kind of connection during the second book. Could it have anything to do with Ginny being a Horcrux? If it does, wouldn't it mean Ginny would have to be killed in order for Voldemort to be killed?
BurnSide
Ginny was practically dead by the time Harry found her and destorying the Diary, the Horcrux, was the only way to revive her. By destroying that part of Voldemorts soul all together, in other words. If part of that soul still lived on in Ginny, then the memory of Riddle would not have been destroyed.
Dementia
Ha..in each book Dumbledore stresses alot of importance to Love. He calls it the strongest Magic possible, and the reason for Harry's survival. Kind of gives you an insight, how harry will defeat Voldermot, doesnt it ?

I loved this and all the HP books. i was soooooooooooooo sad when Dumbledore died, for the rest of the book i kept thinking that he'd come back alive some how. But dammit he didn't. I don't think he'll come back in book 7, after all it is called Harry Potter, not harry potter and dumbldore. I bet the last book is gonna kick some serious butt. No hogwarts, so just harry running around kickin butt.. WOOT WOOT

~~~SPOILERS~~~~~~~
I've avoided this thread for as long as i could. I was so sad after finishing this book that i didn't want to talk about it. I can't believe he's gone. When Sirius died, I was in total denial. laugh.gif I reacted the same way Harry did. But when Dumbledore died, it was different. I was so very afraid that was going to happen. I love how close Rowling makes you feel to the character before killing them off. I'm slightly embarrassed to say that I was in tears. Gosh! Picturing Dumbledore's expression when he pleaded with Snape before being cursed. crying.gif It's about time Hermione and Ron come to their senses. And Ginny!? I'm a bit upset with myself for not seeing that one coming. Wow. What a fantastic book! clap.gif
Almost.
Who am I kidding, I'll be cheering....... along with everyone else.
I know exactly how you feel. "Severus". When Dumbledore says it in such a pleading tone, I'm like Nah, Snape'll save him........ wtf....... (reads paragraph again)....... (pause).......... (reads paragraph yet again)........ No, that can't be.
SirFireHydrant
Dumbledore is killed by Snape who is the half blood prince.
Oh, and bye the way, those of you not wishing to have the story ruined for you, you might not want to read the previous sentence.
I won't be cheering. Severus is still one of the goodguys wink2.gif I feel bad for Snape, he had to kill the only person who trusted him.. And doesn't it seem strange for for Dumbledore to pleade and beg??
Feenix Fire
~~~Spoilers~~~

It does. I've also had the thought that maybe he's still good. That maybe He had no choice because of the Unbreakable Promise. But wouldn't it have much more noble if he had sacrificed his own life knowing Dumbledore's great importance in the war? I'm not so sure about Snape anymore. I still think about Bellatrix's mistrust in Snape. It was similar to Harry's. But it could very well have been based on her being jealous that he is Voldemort's "favorite". It was a bit obvious that there was a good chance in Dumbledore's death, with the knowledge that Harry would eventually have to fight Voldemort alone. I just did not expect it to be so soon. So soon after Sirius's death. And I was surprised, and extremely impressed with Fluer. Even though she's still quite vain, there's a lot more depth in her than I would have expected.

Oh yeah I saw this video just a while ago that was taken in Dallas, TX. This guy drove by a book store when everybody was in line waiting for the store's opening to buy HPB. As he passed by, He totally shouted out the ending! What a butthead!

Why does Snape Kill Dumblebore?

Dammit, I'm not done with the book yet! I shall read this at another time. hmm.gif
Bizeebutt
ok, my roomate and I were discussing this... and I hope you all agree that if it were entirely possible, we could all quit our sniveling and moaning about book seven being the end... It seems to me that a 17 year old Harry Potter would be too young to handle all the dark arts of Voldemort... Wouldn't it be fabulous... if there were another set of books after this? I know there were only supposed to be seven, but sheesh... Rawlings left this one wide open for sooo much more... I could easily see a set of another seven pouring out of her!

And seven more books means the bills keep getting paid... and we keep getting our *oh so craved* fix?!

Just a thought. (and a delicious one at that)

So you're one of those that think Dumbledore is still alive.

My dad thinks the same, but I'm not so sure.....

BurnSide
I've removed the request in the first post about adding SPOILER to each response.
You all don't need to post 'spoiler' guys. thumbsup.gif

I think if anyone is dumb enough to read a topic devolted to the book that has several SPOILER words in it's title, they deserve to have the book ruined.

I think Dumbledore is finished. It's not in Rowlings nature to do something as cliche and done before as having him die but not die. She's a better writer than that.
Bizeebutt
I agree, Dumbledore had to die in order for Harry to prove his own strength in the next book. I do think its possible that Snape might still be good, like someone said, killing Dumbledore so that Malfoy wouldn't have to, but perhaps he comes back and helps Potter find all the Horcruxes? Its plausible at any rate...

I'm with aquatus, I personally like the Harry/Hermione thing better, but maybe Ginny will play a bigger role in the last book... she seems to be competant enough to help Harry. I don't think that Hogwarts will close, I think McGonagall will be Headmistress and I think that the Regalus Black theory is a great one... with Kreacher keeping the locket. Harry will probably be excused from his seventh year to fight... but beyond that I have no idea whats gonna happen next.

I really liked how this book ended on such a dark note... it really helped sink the idea in that this is not a children's book... it just makes us that much more hungry for what is sure to come in the next book.
BurnSide
I don't know if Snape will help Harry actually.
Even if he is good, Snape has done a very good job so far of convincing the Death Eaters and Voldemort that he is on their side and has an excuse for everything, like why Harry hasn't been killed and why he's so close to Dumbledore etc. Simply helping Harry would break that trust he has and pretty much spell instant death for him, which will of course render him useless to Harry.

I have a feeling Snape may end up jumping infront of a Avada Kadrava (sp) curse and dying to save Harry, something like that.
Bizeebutt
ah... that would be a good one... he dies either way, but for a good purpose. I could see that happening. I feel that he definatly will have a purpose tho...
BurnSide
Oh i'm sure of it.
So far Snape has been still nothing more really than a shadowy figure in the background. He will have an incredible part in the next book, for sure.
AztecInca
^Bah, thats what Tiddlyjen was telling me would happen in the next book and although it would be good I would rather have Snape trully being evil and on the side of Voldemort forcing Harry to fight and destory him before he confronts Voldemort, but I doubt it, its just wouldn`t fit in with whats happened so far!
Paranoid Android
I'd be really annoyed if Snape turned out to be good afterall. In one action he became (in my mind) the most hated character in the series. If Rowlings flips that again and puts him in stead as the good guy with the tragic death, that'd ruin it.
*MoG*
Or somehow Snape will end up being a guardian of Harry ~ sort of uncle figure.

I loved the half blood prince defo the best book so far grin2.gif

Why does Snape Kill Dumblebore?

Because he made the unbreakable vow that Malfoy wouldn't get hurt, and Malfoy wouldn't kill Dumbledore, which would cause Voldemort to hurt him, so Snape took care of the job
BurnSide
You know, it's not such a far stretch as to say that Snape made an Unbreakable Vow to Dumbledore back when Harry was born and that's why Dumbledore trusts Snape.

But then Snape would die, right? what kind of vow are you talking about? to protect Harry or what?
BurnSide
I wasn't naming any vow in particular, it's a possibility that Snape had made an Unbreakable Vow to Dumbledore once about something like spying on Voldemort or whatever, and that's why Dumbledore trusts Snape.
AztecInca
^Thats a good theory, but how many unbreakable vows are you allowed to make, I would think you could only ever have one at a time even if they dont impact on one another, but with Rowling who knows?!!?!?
Xyfer
Very good theory BurnSide.. whats really torturing me is who the R.A.B person could be
RH2097
I think when someone breaks or fails an unbreakable vow they die.
