Some guy on this African site took a picture of a strange looking Tortise... They call it a Leopard Tortise. It's rare and feared among those who cross it as it is deadly. So they say on the site.

I don't know how a turtle can be deadly myself.

It looks to cute to be dangerous, but maybe it is poisoned to eat, Since villager's do eat these type of animals, that would be the only thing i could think of, tongue.gif

i would love to have one as a pet, they have almost identical care as my sulcatas, so not alot more to do in caring for them.

I had two turtles as pets once, but they were getting too big, so my aunt, who's a teacher, took them to her class. After two years, I saw the turtles and they got HUGE. wacko.gif

i guess superstition is superstition. i mean, americans think black cats are unlucky, and brits think that white cats are unlucky...? i think it's the brits.

The only way a turtle can be dangerous to a human is by biting it, or maybe a scratch from the larger, clawed tortoises. Other than that, Snapping Turtles seem to be the biggest turtle-based threat to humans.

I've also never heard of a poisonous turtle, and i'm fairly sure they don't exist. Even with lizards there is something like 2 poisonous types; Thorny devils, and Gilla monsters.

As said, probably just a superstition.

I think we are all forgetting the tendency of small, cute, woodland creatures to suddenly turn into ferocious man-killing machines and fly about in the air ripping peoples heads off. Here's some proof to refresh your memory.

Thorny devils aren't venomous or poisonous mate. In fact they are easy to handle as pets.

As for venomous reptiles.
The hypothetical venom clade (Toxicofera) was created to study the venomous species.
No tortoises there however.

Are you assuming I mean't they're spines are poisonous, because if you were, you're wrong.

Thorny Devils have a unique defensive ability in which they can squirt a jet of blood from teh tear ducts. There blood is what is poisonous.

That's actually wrong. I did some research it was actually Horned Lizards, and they squirt just normal blood. I guess it must have been an old wive's tale when I was a kid.

Aw, horned "toads". I used to play with them when I was a little girl in texas.

Beaded lizards are poisonous. I believe its only them and Gila monsters.

Komodo dragons may as well be considered toxic. . .not venomous, but they are treated as such. What with all that lovely dangerous bacteria in their mouths, it may as well be considered a poison. Albeit not a traditional one, but its good enough in my book. ph34r.gif

I did, however, read something about some kind of research going on that had "discovered" that the reaction of a komodo dragon (as well as other monitors) bite wasn't only due to the bacteria, but also a venom. I think other lizards may be involved as well. . . The research was done by Dr. Bryan Fry. Here's a link to something on it. . .link

I don't think I've ever heard of him, so I'm not sure of his credibility. I'm horrible with names though. . .
