Are there really such things as bigfoots and if there is why have we never captured one. I mean we should have captured one by now with all those sightings
Rhomphaia
That is an interesting question, and while I am new here, I am pretty sure a question like this would have been discussed on another thread before now. Still, I would like to put in my two cents worth on the issue.
The Pacific NW has volcanoes. Lots of volcanoes. As a result, you get a lot of old lava flow tunnels all over the region, the most famous of which are the Ape caves of Washington, near Mt St Helens, and the Sea Lion Caves on the southern Oregon coast.
These caves are dark, and they run deep. Bigfoot may simply live and hide in these caves, which would explain the apparent infrequency of the sightings reported. Also, some of these type of caves may be 'Bigfoot graveyards' of sorts, where they go to die, much like many elephants go to certain places to die. This would help explain a lack of bodies.
Also, how often does one find the body of a bear or dear or cougar in the woods. Not too often. Bigfoot, being a more rare creature, would have less bodies to lay around, and this combined with a supposed long lifespan (assuming they are indeed primates) would leave the random find of a corpse a groundbreaking and extremely fortuneate discovery.
Also, to capture an animal of this size takes considerable effort and planning. If one wishes to capture the animal in question, a large number of factors are going to be considered, namely the safety of the captors and the captive. Plus you got the problem of transporting such a creature out of the woods. Expensive and problematic undertakings these capture quests would be. So far, no one has seen it as worth their time to mount a proper expedition to go out and find and capture a bigfoot as far as I know.

Welcome to UM Laze. Good reply Rhomphaia, however I am not sure about the concept of bigfoot managing to drag himself so a certain place to die and I think the Elephant graveyard idea is a myth.

However we are talking about an highly intelligent creature that lives in a massive expanse of woodland, even if one was to drop dead of an heart attack in the wood, it would be stripped down by other animals and insects and claimed by the land within a very short time.

I personally think Bigfoot exists, he/she is highly intelligent with a survival instinct and lets face it, the only human contact they actually get to see are probably hunters in the woods so like many animals they would steer clear of our race in fear of being hurt.

I actually believe that we have in fact found bigfoot bodies. Fossisilised bigfoot bodies. A good hundred thousand years old. The official name for these fossils is "Giant Java Man" It's officially a species of primitive man that walked the earth about the same time as Neandartal man shivered through ice age Europe and stood a good seven feet tall.
But I believe that this type of man didn't die out the way Neandartals did and is still living in some isolated pockets.

Welcome to UM sparticuss good theory also but don't you think they would have evolved over time to what we are now recognising as Bigfoot?
CrazyHarry
I think Yeti, Bigfoot, Mighty Peekin Man, Cowman, Dogman, Skunk Ape, Boggy Monster, and Ryan Stiles are all the same speicies, with slight differences.
Laze
well there is evidence but Im not sure if they will be found soon
CrazyHarry
Look on ABC Family at 10:00 on every night, except mondays where it's 8:00 to 11:00. Ryan Stiles on Whose Line.

In Oklahoma where we are having more and more sightings and encounters with Bigfoot, the underbrush around here could hide a whole army from someone walking through the woods, and most bigfoot hunters make enough noise in the woods to alert anything there to hightail it out of the area. And I agree with XSAS, bodies decompose mighty fast in the woods, and there are lots of scavengers that will pick a carcass apart will fast. The evidence is already here that something is out there, just science will not recognize it for what it is. Why do people still not believe it and question it's existence? Look at all the new species of animals and fish we are still discovering, many right under our very noses, give it time, someone will do the job right and get the evidence to prove bigfoot exists.

I'm a scientist, and I believe in it.

I think the main problem is the mystisism that's been attached to bigfoot. Many people market it as a missing link, or even as a supernatural creature. If sasquatch was proposed to simply be a species of ape, a north american version of a gorrilla or chimp, then I believe science would be far more receptive of it.

And since no one burns wood for heat any more the woods and forests are so thick its easier just to drive around them than to walk through.

Sup you guys, i love commenting on these bigfoot discussions, makes me think that we are not the only intelligent species roaming the earth...
me and my friends are planning a bigfoot expiditon in northern washington, (cant say where yet)...this winter,...some of you might ask why winter, i say why not, heres my reasoning:

1. if it is a primate, the it does not hibernate, therefore might be easier to spot while most other animals are taking it easy in their dens...
2. lets say it keeps its same coat throughout the year, it may be even easier to spot against the backdrop of the snow
3. tracks are more noticible in the snow, although only last a day or so due to snowfall

i am going to start a thread about my bigfoot expiditon giving clues on its official name, equiptment, # of people going...and so on and so forth stay tuned guys thumbsup.gif

Well, i can add one theory, i am sure you all will find weird, I am a half breed, Russian/ Native American, and i have heard the story, That bigfoot is a God of nature, thus allowing him to move from place to place, with out our knowing, I have also heard the name spirit walker, Meaning he is like a ghost almost, He can be right in front of us and we will still not be able to see him, unless he wants us too, Well thats the story i have heard, who knows we still can't find one so maybe, maybe not! hmm.gif thumbsup.gif

Anyone heard of a body heat scan?
Detects body heat in an area, and if there's a warm blooded Bigfoot-like creature there, we'll have it...
Just need to vacate the area of humans, which might be confused as the bigfoot.

Just need to know in which areas too look I guess, we can't heat scan the whole world.
Talon
The cost of that process mean it will never be done.

If you're gonna come to UM you're gonna have to learn to read buddy....I won't summarize it because he had very good points and it should be read. You shouldn't be lazy.

I like to make one comment, that a person put to me who is a studies apes and there link with man. He once said that it really really hard to find a skeletal system of a ape intact as, wild animals would scatter the bone and such. Have you ever walked through the wood and seen a intact skeletal system of a animal and if you did see pieces of bones would you recognisee it for what it is. Before anyone say how about the skull well skull is the weakess bone structure and can be destroyed quiet easly. So unless you were lucky and found one intact you wouldn't know what you looking at and the only few bones that wouldn't be destroy are the bigger thicker bones e.g. thigh and would you be able to walk pass and go oh look the thigh bone of bigfoo

Not only would it be too expensive, as Talon pointed out, but every single animal in the forest would be giving off heat also, making it extremely difficult to iscolate any one signal. It doesn't work like it does in the predator movies, where the only things giving off heat are people, and their shapes are perfectly defined for the camera wink2.gif

You also have to bear in mind that such equipment has very limited range. There is no way of knowing that a bigfoot would ever even pass within its arc of vision.
