I saw something on the news the other day that I had thought from the very beginning. The court (i think it was the court) said that we had no grounds on which to hold Sadam a prisoner. I have always thought it was planned to take over Iraq. Sadam somehow owed the powers that be a few favors or maybe he needed a hide out, in plain site. His accomodations are pretty much first class, no other prisoner would get that kind of treatment. We don't hear a lot about him. The government throws us a bone every once and a while, with a photo or a video but not very often. Doesn't this seem a little strange?
Am I the only one who sees this? Anyone else have a thought?

Now everyone go ahead and correct me if I am wrong, but I think there are certain rules that apply to captured heads of state about their treatment and whatnot. That could be why, even though he is charged as a criminal, he is still getting first class accomodations.
Disgusting I know, but what can ya do?
EmpressV
The story I heard was that they couldn't charge him with anything and will have to release him.

The first charge of hopefully many more to come.

Thanx for the link. I'm still curious about the newscast I saw over the weekend that said he couldn't be charged with certain crimes.
Mr Ed
There is a thread about this already, I think.

Apparently he changed the constitution so that he was innocent of everything.
Of course if this is the case it can be easily overuled.

He will be tried.
He will be found guilty.
He will be screwed.

(Pun intended- luckily Michael Jackson won't be his inmate).
Rhomphaia
Add on top of that everything he is charged with in most nations carries at least a life sentence, yeah, Saddam is gonna be sodomized.
final flight
but micheal jackson doesent like grown men.
Rhomphaia
Yeah, Saddam does seem like he would be a little too hairy for Jacko.

no.gif There are a lot of people who don't want to see him in an open trial because of the revelations he could make about who gave him all those nasty chemicals and other weapons with which he massacred millions of people. This is really a no win situation for some western governments and companies, they'd rather see the lunatic dead than in front of a judge and tv cameras, unless of course they can strike a deal with him so that he doesn't reveal everything in exchange for a 5 star hotel treatment in a pseudo-jail. wacko.gif

We know where he got his equipment to design and produce biological and chemical weapons, these mostly came from Germany. The equipment for his nuclear weapons program came from France. The vast majority of his conventional weapons came from USSR and France in that order.

A strange coincidence here, that the three countries most heavily opposing the war are the same countries that armed Saddam, makes you think wink2.gif

Can anyone name the bloke here next to Saddam original.gif

They are not going to let Saddam go free, yes there is a certain protocol, the follow, This is not a US law but a set of guide lines the UN, follows for all haeds of state, But anyone who believes the US and UK, are going to let him go free is very wrong, thumbsup.gif
Rhomphaia
Yes, even though he is a POW, Saddam is still a head of state. Still, in my opinion I think they should have just tossed a grenade down that hole and walked away. Then again, that is where the soldier who poked his head down there is better than I am.
Pannkakskungen
He is not head of state anymore.
Rhomphaia
Technically he is because the new Iraqi government has not been ratified (I think that is the word for it). Then again, that is just a technicality.
