Hey wait a minute! Emily Rose sounds familiar to me and I think they have a movie which deals with this in my local Videotheque. It is just round the corner so I'll go and check now. I bet by the time I get back to this topic somebody else will have answered your question. Lol Lonecat

The Exorcism of Emily Rose is based on the true story of 19 year old Anneliese Michel who was reported to have been posessed by a demon. She later died from the exorcism and starvation.

In 1978 a young German woman named Anneliese Michel died. The German courts found her parents and the priests who attended her guilty of negligent homicide. The courts concluded that Anneliese dies because she had been subjected to extensive and severe Exorcism rites, rather than continuing the medications she had been given for epileptic seizures.

What happened to Emily? It lists as being based on a true story. Is it like Amityville, "Let's chalk up a few strange coincidences to get a movie deal." or the Blair Witch, "Let's call it real to boost ratings." or did this "actually" happen?

Hi all
I do not know much about this event, but from what I have looked into it, its about religious abuse, the type of "possessions" Aka mental illness or play acting that is used for religious propaganda.
When a movie is clamed its based on a "true story" you have to take into account that things are changed and exaggerated to make a more scary and exciting movie.
Will keep a look out for this though, looks interesting.
All the best

Lonecat, the movie you're thinking of is Audrey Rose, similarly based on a "true story" , with Anthony Hopkins, who thinks a girl is the reincarnation of his own daughter who died tragically in a car accident. Worth the watch.

Is anyone going to see the movie "The Exorcism of Emily Rose"? It looks like an interesting movie and it comes out on September 9, 2005.

Just thought you people might like to know, don't know why.
I just saw the preview, and I thought I had heard this before, so I looked through my collection of books, and I found a few pages on it. So here's a picture of the real Anneliese Michel if you're interested :
http://www.mdr.de/IT/52063-high.jpgI didn't directly scan it or anything, but that's how she looks in the book. Not anything like the movie girl, I'm not the least bit surprised.

"Based" on a true story keyword being "based" They will take the story exagerate many things and make some up for movie. Trailer looks good but cant be that scary it only got a PG-13 rating some Saturday morning carttons are more graphic!

The movie does look scary however it is "based" on a true story which you can read about on the web site. If you closely read though you'll find out the priest who was arrested in the incident was arrested for letting the girl die in his possession. That was the only possession in the in real story. She was epileptic and the priest refused to give her her medicine for seizures and then she starved to death. She was propbably schitzophrenic too which would explain the hallucinations she had. I would however like to hear if they did actually tape the voices she had coming out of her mouth during the rituals of the common excorcism.

Emily Rose's real name was Anneliese Michel. After getting sick and going to the hospital strange things began to happen. Most of which is in the new upcoming movie. Anneliese eventually dies from self inflicted wounds and the parents and exorcist folks were brought on manslaughter charges. A lesser sentence was given of 6 months each. The only problem is science nor faith were able to save this young girl who saw demons. Murf

Hello. I just got back a little while ago from the drive-in. I went and saw this movie. I was really impressed. The plot is kind of different from other horror movies, but I really loved it. I really liked the way her story was told and how they got the idea across about demons and other paranormal things to people who dont believe. (You'll see what I mean if you watch the film.) And how everyone who experiences stuff like this isnt insane. I dont want to say much in fear of giving too much away. Really though, grab some cash and go see this movie as soon as you can. Its amazing. Or so I thought.

hello i am new to this forum i would like to express my opinion on the exorcism of annelise michel the german girl..of whom this story emily rose is based.Sceptics say aha!the church this and the church that.....but has anyone ever..seriously came back from the dead to tell any of us what there is on the other side?No no one has ever returned to tell us...not ever....so we don't really know do we?If there is a heaven or if there is a hell?we can only hope and pray there is a heaven...and hope and pray there is no hell, it is a question that has bothered me for years and yes i do beleive in God...again this bothers me the after life.. because if i do beleive in God i also beleive in ghosts as the church teaches us that..anyway i am open to discussion about this

Hi. I saw this movie last night. I really liked it. It was less a horror movie than a courtroom drama that really makes you think.
Also, the woman upon whom this was based was born in 1952 and started having her symptoms in 1968, when she was 16 years old. She had been medically treated for epilepsy for four years (unsuccessfully) when an exorcism was suggested (from what I've read). It seems to me that if this poor woman had been born 20 or 30 years later, if she was not possessed, a far more accurate diagnosis could have been made and she may have been able to have been cured, or at least greatly helped. At this point, who knows what really occurred other than she suffered terribly. The movie also demonstrated her suffering. You knew she was going through hell. It WAS sad.

I haven't seen it as of yet because we always get movies much later than the rest of the world.

But I've seen the trailer and some other scenes and it seems like the kind of movie
I really really like. The trailer scared the crap out of me.

And by the way, there's another thread about it
here.

My husband and I saw it. It is not a horror movie, and if that is what you are looking for, you may be disappointed. It was very good and the director wants you to think about whether she was really possessed or just very mentally ill. They don't give you that answer, they want you to figure it out for yourself.
You can look up the real Anneliese Michel on the web. People still flock to her gravesite in Germany from around the world and consider her a saint. One of the priests that performed the exorcisms (I say plural because the poor girl went through 10 months worth of them) is still to this day in seclusion.

I saw the exorcism of emily rose it was pretty scary..1, 2, 3, 4, 5, sssssix! Anyway i think it was a pretty good movie the director did it well, it reely got me thinking, was she really possessed or just had a severe case of skitzophrenia and because of her beliefs in god n stuff just believed she was demonically possessed because if i can remember correctly the lawyer says "sick people dont know they are sick" she was only believed she was possessed but medical people said she was mentally ill. After i saw the movie i read up on anneliese michel and i think i just want to believe she was demonically possessed but after reading the stuff she suffered i think she was just mentally sick but i dont know ITS MESSING WITH MY HEAD!

Hi All, In this movie about Emily Rose from what i have found on the net and by talking with un-named persons in the church (not just the Catholic religion) there are many case examples of demonic possesions and spiritual possesions of some nature that are totally unexplainable to most but from MY personal stants on this subject is most people want to believe in a Holy Spirit as for either comfort or some kind of personal spiritual neccesity and but want to refuse the fact that to have a good you have to have a bad and this would be what i consider to be the demonic possesion that people are more likely to comment on and try to de-bunkt. I have studied alot of religions over the years and most believe in the good and the bad side of the "super natural" but when you get down to the facts many are so scared of it they close the door in your face (so to speak) and run in hide with there heads in the sand like the a giant bird. When in all reality if you ask some they get all glossy eyed and really get into it way too much when talknig about it... I have found in ALL my paranormal investigations that if you look hard enough at a picture or video you can always find something looking back... Most of these things that people see it almost takes x-ray tech to find the so called break in the bone to see the ghost. I have gotten pictures of ghost, phantoms, anomilies and the famous orbs of we dont know what they are... If people would just sit back and really look at there paranormal investigations as research instead of trying to scare the crap out of themselves then we could get so much closer to the answers and the help that these people and spirits need and are asking for. Hope i didnt step on any toes but i do have to voice my opinion. Chris

NO one was sent to prison the priest was found guilty of negligent homicide and his sentence was time served.... According to the movie

I watched it over the holidays and was rather disappointed with the movie. Too much hype surrounding it and a little too preachy for me.
