sbb is the one for me

I have never believed in ghosts until i came upon one of these message boards last october. I can say that I have never actually seen a ghost. However, when I am in my room I sometimes will stop and look behind me. Never anything there. When I go to bed I never look up from the pillow. I am always either looking down at the pillow or having my head against the wall so that I will never wake up with a ghost in my face.
Anyway. One night I was going to sleep and I felt a soft sort of like punch on my head. No one else was in my room, only me. I'm now wondering whether it was because I was believing it all so much that my mind got a bit outrageous and made me think that something hit me, apart from that I have heard the table downstairs creek once in a while (which could be because of heat, where the table is expanding / joints creeking) and the odd door I can hear creeking as well. But that only happens about 4 times a year most. That could be the childrens book or another alternative for a doorstop e.g. teddy bears, small toys. getting moved by the door seeing as though they are not that heavy. But is it just a coincidence that it happens when no one is there or not?
What do you think? is my mind playing tricks with me? Am I slightly more nervous than I should be?

nah, It is quite a new house. it was made in the 1970's and only one couple lived here before we moved in. The woman died and the man died....... But in Hospital.
Would that make the house haunted?
I mean it's not a real bother as hardly anything ever happens, it's just that odd sound or two now and again.
I live about 20 metres from the back of a funeral home? would that make much difference?

Sounds like your a bit paranoid, everything you mentioned seems quiet normal. Just try to relax a little bit more and im sure it will all go.

I don't think your house is haunted. It sounds like there is a good explaination for the things that have happened and it sounds like you already know that, you just needed some reasurence. I think you just got the idea of ghosts in your head, it can happen to anybody.

From what your explaining it is hard to say if your house is haunted or not. If you are interested in learning more you may want to consider having investigators coming in. A death or some form of negative event doesn't have to happen to have a house haunted. Former owners can come back to live in their house. Other spirits seem to sometime just take up resident even though they have no past history with a location. Keep records of anything that happens.

Hi SBB...
Yes, it sounds like you have a presence with you in your home.
May I please say that there is nothing to be afraid of, they are just as curious about you as you are of them.
Feel happy that you have such a thing in your home and that they like you .
May I suggest that you try to put your fear aside and try to get to know the entitys habits and personality.
If by chance you "feel" the presence (which is it's electromagnatism field) try speaking to it and just say..."your welcome to be here, but remember it's my room".
Trust me, it works...just keep in mind that you have to take the bull by the horns and stand your ground. If you feel uncomfortable with it's presence at any time, just tell them so and ask them to wait for another time to visit.
All of this may sound odd to you...talking to something with no physical form, but trust me...it works.

Not all houses are plumb and square, I think they move a half inch, maybe less, a yr. I have noticed this old house of mine has a floor that is leaning and I hear odd noises. But the hit in the head, that is odd indeed. Maybe u punched yourself at sleep ,or something fell off the shelf, or someone at the creaking door threw something at you and ran away giggling.

What is your theory on what had happened.

SBB, it sounds to me like your mind is playing tricks on you. Tables and doors creak. My old house was built in the 60's and I used to hear creaks all the time growing up. I think a few times I even heard my name being called, but it was so faint that even at a young age I wrote it off as imagination. My dad would say, "That's just the house settling."
The bottom line is, you are nervous from this board. The things you mention are soooo normal. Stuff creaks. It is a coincidence. Children's books might slide if the wind pushes a door. 4 times a year? That's almost never. Are you saying you hear the door creaking like it's being opened slowly? You don't even need wind for that, just gravity. Sometimes the door's hinges are such that a certain position is "desirable" so to speak. My own door doesn't stay closed unless it's closed all the way. I'll bet you money some of your doors are the same way, and a few times they creaked.
As for the punching, did it feel like someone hit you? Or just a tap? Maybe something fell and then landed on the floor softly. I have a shelf at the head of my bed instead of a nightstand, where I keep books and my clock. I used to have teddy bears and whatnot on the higher shelf as a kid. Do you have this? Problem solved. If not, then you'll have to go into more detail about what happened.

What, does she have bears in her house?
The evidence for ghosts is flimsy at best.

I have no shelves so the bump on my head wasn't caused by anything falling on me. Plus I was the only one awake so It wasn't anything else. It was like a gentle knock on the head. Once again, It could have been caused by my mind. The only other experiences happened about a year ago.
The one was when I was downstairs at about 3:00am I could hear a whipping sound, I heard it twice then it stopped.
The other one was slightly more scary, explainable. But still, I was home by myself at winter, then when it all became dark (about 5:30pm) I decided to turn on the lights, I turned them on and one popped completely. Then about 10 seconds later I recieved a phone call with no-one on the other end answering for about 8 seconds, then the phone hung up.
I've noticed that some of this stuff is unexplainable. Most of it ccould be caused by my mind, I have only really started believing in this stuff since visiting the message board. The only experience I had before that was the whipping noise, where I didn't believe in this stuff. I have also noticed that this stuff only happens at night, which is a classic time for peoples minds to play games with them. Seeing as though I haven't experienced anything in the daytime I guess It could just be my mind playing tricks on me, or is it the usual time for ghosts to come out at night time?
I have only really experienced those 3 things in the past 6 years at this house if we don't count the creeking furniture.
I think unless the ghosts like to pick their time at night to haunt, It is probobly just my head messing me around.
I like visiting these boards in the day, checking out scary stuff. But it only really begins to repeat on me in the night. So I guess it is basically all in my mind, although that knocking on the head can't really be explained.

This is normal. I've noticed an increase in sudden noises at night as well since coming on here. It's psychological. It's the blue car syndrome. You see more blue cars on the road if you buy a blue car. Simple as that.
I notice you take a lot of unrelated stuff and use it as suspicious happening. The light bulb popped and then right away there was an 8 second phone call with no answer. I assure you, one thing has nothing to do with the other. You can tell because both things are totally normal. It is all in your head. I would say that you probably even imagined the knock on your head. It's possible.
Go into more detail about the whipping sound though. What happened there?

That sorts of happens to me at night. Sometimes I put the blankets over my head in case sombody, or something, touches it. I also hate to have my feet poking out from under the blankets when it's dark in the room.

well, basically Occam. I was downstairs at about 2:30 - 3:00am and I heard a "shwoosh" sharp sound. A bit like when a car passes you when you are driving or when you are in the passenger seat with your window open. Then once my attention was drawn to it, it became about twice as loud and sounded like a whip cracking, then once again after. It would sound like someone whipping something then whipping it away behind them.
I then stopped watching T.V. and went to bed straight away. I thought nothing of it really, it was about 3 days before halloween and my friends showed me another paranormal message board. There I typed in what happened to me and they replied with "have you been on any message boards before this happened?" I replied no. Then I got loads of replies saying
"your house is definitely haunted"
" sounds like an evil ghost there"
"i'd move out, maybe an exorcist could be brought in but it might affect the ghost."
"you are definitely haunted, it should start getting worse"
and I have researched paranormal stuff ever since.

Well, I would say the people that replied to you like that straight away were a bunch of kids who probably would have said that to anybody, but of course I haven't seen the posts. They got rid of the blue car thing for it by finding out that it wasn't on your mind, and that's good, but it's hardly evidence of ghosts.
The sound is interesting, but what else happened with it? I mean, did it sound like it was coming from right behind you in the room, or in another room? I'm thinking of the sound of a cloak or cape or trenchcoat whipping when someone turns around fast in the movies. Kind of like how the flag sounds blowing in high winds, only softer.

no, it was a definite whip cracking noise, when it breaks the sound barrier. That sound, just not as loud. It sounded like it was coming from the left of me, either outside the door into the hall or in the dining room next door. I don't think it was inside the room. My guess was that it was outside. A definite whipping sound though. it had that sharp "wha-tishhhhhhhh" nosie.

Well, this rational, common sense thinking guy is stumped....
I'd have to hear it now.
Well, I would still write it off as most of it being you. It sounds like a bunch of stuff happened that looks one way because of the mindset you're in. You heard a wierd noise outside, that could have been anything and was probably something silly, and that prompted you to go research paranormal, and now you're hearing a lot of wierd stuff because of the mindset. I mean, what if that whipping sound was the phone cord in the dining room falling off the counter and hitting the wall? It could have been any number of things like that.
I know that's not the fun answer....

I, myself, have a VERY over active imagination sometimes. I always have. If I am looking at this message board, or website about ghosts or haunting and such during the day I am usually fine. But if I am on at night, right befor I go to bed...forget it. I will be freaked out all night! Even with my husband right beside me! LOL!!
The other day I was completely alone all day for the first time in awhile. I was on this website most of the day plus I was watching a Ghost Hunters marathon on the Sci Fi channel.
Needless to say....I was a bit on edge. LOL! That day I hear a pounding at the front of the house. I went to check what was going on and when I did I heard someone at the back door! I called my husband and made him come home and check. I didnt think the house was haunted or there was anything in the house, I thought someone was trying to break in!
So I got out my husband's gun and loaded it (although I have NEVER shot a gun) and told my husband he better let me know before he came in the house...because I dont believe in warning shots! LMBO!!!!
Anyway, I think that if you start to get freaked out when reading these kinds of message boards and websites, then you should take a break for a few days. Limit your time spent here.
The one thing this site HAS taught me though...whenever something does happen like a strange noise or something.....I always try to find out what it could possibly be BEFORE jumping to the conclusion that it is something scary.

i had a similar situation you had in your house that i had in my parent's house.. for example; when i was downstairs washing dishes i would always feel something or some type of energy form next to me..have you ever turned on your t.v. and hear that power sound? well thats what i heard when i was washing dishes.. and i would feel something touching my back.. like two little pinky fingers dancing across my spine.. it was kinda creepy. at first i really didn't think much of it.. later on that night while i was laying in my bed i felt those same fingers dancing across my back.. i turned and there was nothing there... 20 minutes or so.. i woke up and went to the bathroom.. when i came back there was an imprint on the left side of my bed.. it was the imprint of a medium size body... my pillow on the left side was smashed in like somebody was laying there... i have exp.. other weird stuff but its too much to type down

If it doesn't happen very often, then I would say maybe a visiting spirit. I have delt with them many many times. Is there anybody that passed that you were close to? Have you been thinking of them lately? If so, it could be just that, a visitor. The hit on the head may of been a little love tap to let you know that they are there.
That is one opinion. The other, the imagination is a strong thing.
