TOKYO (Reuters) - A horrified Japan is soul-searching over the murder of a four-year-old as a family court prepares to deliberate the fate of a boy only eight years his senior who police say confessed to the killing.

A middle school student has admitted to killing Shun Tanemoto a week ago by pushing him off the roof of a multi-storey car park in Nagasaki, 980 km (610 miles) south of Tokyo, the police said on Thursday.

"I was shocked. I have a grandchild the same age and I can only wonder how the victim's parents must feel," Justice Minister Mayumi Moriyama told the TBS private television network.
