Ancient sites are somewhat strange when level heads are utilized.

I guess now you wait for Marduk.... laugh.gif I read it to did not think much of it though... Sorry O, hmm.gif
marduk
I think the point here is that for an .edu site that was the very worst article i have ever read
not only because of its content but because of the authors obvious inability to figure the simplest of mesoamerican construction principles out

Ha ha...yeah it was a rather pointless article.

Yes and yet we keep posting! w00t.gif

His biggest mistake is in assuming that because he can't see the sun to check if the site is aligned with the sun on august the 13th(haha) because of a ridge he thinks that the olmecs wouldn't be able to align it either
thats cos he's a geographer and not an astronomer.
Theres more than one star in the sky
and they can't be seen in the daytime
theres an oft repeated error that mesoamerican temples are aligned to venus because they all open towards the east.
like the sun has nothing to do with it right.
we all hate that don't we
first rays of the morning sun coming through the window.

its very easy to see that this guy has no idea what appears in the heavens on a nightly basis from his line "so unless some sort of 'relay station' existed on the adjacent hilltop, neither of these key dates could have been calibrated by naked eye astronomy from Teopantecuanitlán."
he never even visited the site at night so how the hell would he know

Someone here needs to bring up the dictates of Informal Fallacies and Non-Sequiturs because the retorts here are full of them. I will begin posting them shortly. This was a test...and you fell in the hole. That is OK, I stand knee deep in that hole all day long.

Cheers

Sounds like you'e stubled into a megolithic ridge pit.

What's the significance of 13th August?
Orion von Koch
Indeed...we all stand in this pit for the test of being...have you faced your test yet?

August 13...a day like all days, filled with those events that alter and illuminate our times...and you will be there. Thanks Walter.
marduk
Essan you know the answer to that you just forgot
getting old buddy
what year does the olmec calendar start ?
which date ?
Orion von Koch
It goes beyond the Olmeca...to the root of our very existence. The Mayan base 13 concept is interesting to put forth here...one may read in Nexus Magazine.

Which actually makes it an even more pertinent quesytion: why the 13th August. Or, rather, the day of the year that in our calendar is 13th August?

Though I suppose the same could be said of January 1st....... A totally illogical date to start the year on (should be December 21st wink2.gif )
marduk
personally i use the first new moon in march
most accurate method i know of.
Lunar calendar
Well it worked for every ancioent culture on earth right up until the romans changed it cos they were being invaded.
Still didn't help did it
