......*sigh*.....
I'm starting to loose faith in christianity, a religion I was brought up with my entire life. I just can't beleive in a God that made us to worship him which seems selfish to me and doesn't accept gay love among many other things that really bother me. There also isn't much proof of there being a Jesus or a God. There's just a bible which has many plot holes and things that just ain't right. There's nothing to really back up the religion. I've never seen any proof of Jesus or God. I'm afraid of hell though, that's why I must stick with it. I practice the religion but I don't have much faith in it. What am I to do?
JayRob303
Talk to your preacher, explain your feelings...they will strengthen your faith and help you to work things out for the best.

Or, keep what beliefs that you have, and find a faith that suites you beliefs and needs.

Good luck on either road you take!

The good news is: there's no hell.

You just went throught the rejection of an indoctrination. I went throught the same thing and it's ok. Instead of living all your life with fear and illusion you are now free. I consider that a very good thing.

You do know that the whole homosexuality thing is fake, right? the words homosexual never appear in the Greek or Hebrew translations, which are two of the most accurate translations original.gif

ask questions (preferably to people who know what they are talking about), read stuff. if something is bothering you, research it.

Not really. Balance in this form is human creation.

Well I for one do believe in heaven and hell I always thought you love god and jesus live a good life be nice and pray for forgivness of your sins you will end up in the heaven if you go out and kill a bunch of people you might end up in hell. Just my thoughts.

to silver cougar...

but what inspires sin? we all remember the whole eve eating the apple because the snake convinced her. the snake represents satan and him tempting mankind. he has influence over all the sins we have ever commited.
Ashley-Star*Child
Instead of listening to the man-made rules, why don't you follow the actual Word of God? Excluded books might help there.

Believing in God because you are afraid of hell is meaningless belief. God wants people to believe of their own free will and if you can't do that, it's empty. That is the reason we are here.

Sin, again, is a human creation. A control tool... And the adam eve myth is something used to emphisize it.
Deaths Hand
meh, you wear me out... sin is not a human creation. well not entirely. humans (adam and eve) were, well, perfect, immortal, like God but with no power. that is until they disobeyed his orders. when the snake (satan) tempted eve into eating the apple, sin was created. sin is based pretty much on the gullability of mankind and the hatred from satan. not mankind itself.

Well, technically I am Christian, I was baptised and was brought upfor 20 years that way, while I was about 16or 17, I started to lose faith in God. I was suicidal, I hated life and everything connected to it. Being brought up for 18 years helped me realise all of the loop holes and mishaps in the Bible, which I argued with my Religious Studies teacher. He could nevergive me a definate answer. Which made me realise that although I have been brought up this way, I can find faith in other things. I believe my own set of beliefs now. And whether or not their is a heaven and a hell, whatever the true religion is or isn't it isn't up to another to decide. We decide our own fates. Not a spiritual being.

So tell me then. Why this creation myth is any more true then the hundreds of other ones that are in this world. *shrugs*

Good, evil, sin, balance betwen heaven and hell, after lives, angels, gods, devils, satan... all human creations to explain the un explainable and used to control the mass by those few who have the skill to use them. Manipulation is a wonderous thing...

Go to this website, and listen to someone read the whole New Testament on your computer. Ask God to give you the proper understanding of it before you start listening.
Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

Exactly. There is, somewhere out there, an answer to everything (or almost) it's just a matter of accepting it.

You don't need to follow the strict confines of a "Church" to be spiritual or believe in God & Jesus. Personally, I despise organized religion and seperate God from it. I believe in God and Jesus, and also believe that the bible is a collection of metaphors and stories used to demonstrate ideas. (ie. mythology - albeit moral mythology). The Bible is not a direct fax from God.

Rather than people losing their faith - which I think is usually more of a disgruntled feeling about their Church/sect of organized religion, I think people have to reinvent their faith to make sense to them.

A faith based on fear is no faith at all.

Try looking at the love God showed - he died on the cross for us. The non-Christians will tell you that you shouldn't believe in Christianity at all. I tell you also - if this is your idea of the Bible God, then you shouldn't believe in it either.

God is a loving creator who wishes us all to be in relationship with Him. He is not a sadistic monster who wishes us to live our life in fear of eternal damnation.

Whatever choice you make, seriously - just ask questions. Continue to ask. And when you think you've finished asking, ask just one more to be on the safe side thumbsup.gif

Just something for you to think about.

Franklin D. Roosevelt said we have nothing to fear but fear itself, not Jesus...Anyways, I myself believe in our Lord God and his son Jesus Christ. In saying this my belief system has always seemed to be in a constant flux, that was until one day i just started believing again. I have no explanation of it, but i will say that since I lest God back into my life i have been a much happier and nicer person.

God is within you. It seems you haven't found him yet.

You cannot blame God for the social rules. These are created by people like us.
Their purpose is obvious................to have a religion and make as much follower as they can. After all they want to be the ruler of those mind in the name of God.

Sorry, learned long time ago that TV producers aim their product at the larger audience demographic and care nor a whit for the truth. In this country about 65% of the population is Christian, so who do you think they don't want to make mad? If you want the truth, read the classics, read history, read science, read archaeology and maybe then you will see the bias of TV yes.gif

Faith is NOT based on fear. All God WANTS is for people to show devotion/believe in Him of their OWN FREE WILL. Is it that hard? That is the very reason for your existence.

If God wants people to believe in Him, why doesn't He just produce a bonafide, undeniable miracle and put an end to all of the doubt?

QUOTE
Is it that hard?

Actually, I think it would be too easy for me to just say, "OK, I believe", without some sort of real evidence.

QUOTE
That is the very reason for your existence.

It might be. . .if I were a Christian.
Ashley-Star*Child
That's the entire point. This is a test of devotion, God did say so Himself. And when He made Adam and explained to him the good and the bad, and about his freewill He said to him 'I will see who among your race will love or abhor Me'. That's what free will is for. That's what every test is for, that is why satanail, being an accusing angel - being allowed to tempt test and accuse humanity, and at one point even his own kind - is for. Satanail in Job asks God to test Job, and God allows him to do so. What you think they don't talk? Satanail was God's favourite angel.

And when a person exercises that free will and chooses not to accept Christ. . .the result is eternal punishment for refusing a gift.

No little one, they know that even most Christians accept evolution as the primary THEORY to explain how man came to be man (not how he was created, the Creator did that), so they can speak of evolution. Even when they speak of it, they make the comment "the theory of evolution" at the beginning to set the parameters. Actually there is quite a bit of evidence for evolution, I am not a hard science type so you will have to ask Hyperactive about that, but no evidence for a Jesus of Nazareth (the town of Nazareth didn't exist until 130 CE, over a century after Jesus supposedly died) even though there were well over 9 historians observing and writting in that area and time period (some slightly after when memories would still be fresh) and not a one mentions a Jesus the Messiah, not even the Jewish historians. yes.gif

None of this helps, I'm not sure what Ibeleive anymore. I'd like to beleive there's a God but there are more facts that he's not there than he is. I pray every night for some proof, just something to let me know he's there. I never get anything, if God is there he's just being an ass wipe and wants me to burn for not beleiving. You know, is it justs me, or is it really annoying when someone suggests to talk things like this over with a pastor/priest?

I find the book of Enoch, someone suggsts 'talk it over with a priest!' Yeah, er, ok.

What is wrong with talking to someone who might know more? I mean usually a pastor or priest is in a further place in the walk with God? Right?

Don't be angry because someone told you that they thought the Book of Enoch was wrong and to talk with your pastor. They just don't understand.

As contradictive as it gets. Do you want to believe, or do you not?

If you don't want to believe - then go for it! You say yourself you've seen more evidence of him NOT existing than you have of him doing so. And if you don't believe in all of this, why believe in hell? Then you've got nothing to fear.

If you want to believe - go for it! Belief has nothing to do with evidence, but all to do with your innermost wishes. If you want to believe, but have seen no evidence - what's stopping you from believing? Why would you need evidence to BELIEVE in something which has not been proven false?

I believe in a whole lot of things that I have never seen any evidence of whatsoever. That doesn't stop me from believing, or at least keep an open mind about it. That's what I suggest you do - keep an open mind about it, and believe whatever you want.

Edit: As far as talking to someone to "strengthen your faith", that's not the way to go, in my opinion. You need to figure out what to believe in on your own. Talking to someone to get answers to questions you might have is a great idea. But don't let anyone force upon you a religion, or scare you with "you'll go to hell if you don't believe". Because, as been said before - that's not what faith is about.

My two cents. Not intended to step on anyone's toes, my apologies if I did wink2.gif
