"Spread out amongst the dense jungles of Cambodia hide the remains of an ancient and grand civilization. Once inhabited by a people known as the Khmer, today millions of tourists visit the temples at Angkor to get a glimpse of the majesty of this once proud city.

While most visitors focus on the beauty of the city’s towering temples, another story lies in the intricate stone carvings adorning the buildings. These inscriptions tell of everyday life, grand military conquests and perhaps most intriguing of all, strange mythological creatures. But are all the fantastic animals depicted at Angkor purely myth, or are some of them based on real creatures that once lived?"

It's amazing how well-traveled the more popular dinosaurs are. There's sightings of stegosaurs, pterodactyls, apatasaurs, and tricerapos...es...i(?) all over the world, from Africa to South America. I thought they were only native to one or two areas when they were notextinct? huh.gif

The temples in Angkor and other temple sites were built by the old Khmer empire, not to be confused with a commie whack job called pol pot, they reigned a fairly large area in what today is Cambodia, Laos and parts of Thailand and Vietnam. The Khmer were very influenced by indian/hindu culture even though they themself were buddhists, the influence came mainly from the extensive traderoutes between the areas.
The Khmer temples depict indian/hindu myths and legends, which of course include various demons and other otherworldly beings.
