For the families who bought new houses in a subdivision near Houston, Texas, life in their dream homes quickly turned into a nightmare. When one couple began to dig a swimming pool, they unearthed two bodies and made the horrifying discovery that their homes rested atop an old African-American burial ground. Then frightening, unexplainable things began to occur.

Pretty creepy story. I wouldn't want to live a place like that as long as these two families did.

I read a book about that place, it was quite an incredible story. We have acouple of subdivisions where I live that are built over indian burial ground and over top of old sanitariums. One of the indian burial grounds is right behind where I work. Apparently about a hundred years ago when it was being used as farm land, some farmers just dug it all up and disposed of it, very disrespectful.

Interesting how they changed Mic Mac to African-American buriel ground. Doesn't seem as creepy now. Good story. I think there might be some relevent facts there.

Hey, I know of this place and there is much more... Just this year, the Houston police department is setting up a television show on cable. There is also a few newer reports of the area. No one took it too seriously until a law enforcement officers home, started to become active did they start to figure this out. Police dogs that are trained to sniff out cadavers indicated that there was something but was not exact on pin pointing the location. One of my friend's friend is the lead investigator for the project.

I know it does sound like out of a movie, but you must remeber that this is the deep south we are talking about. I live around these areas and know that these were real reports. Not real cases, but real reports of strange happenings. There are many graves that are unmarked. That's what I generaly enjoy doing most... searching for lost graves. So far, in the woods behind my home, I have found 4 spots. You can't tell they are even there. One was discovered by some sick person because when I spotted it, the pine coffin had already been broken open and a victorian style dress just draped on a bush. That some sick sh**.
Notice on my personal photo, I have a bike rack on my car with a brand new mountain bike because some of these spots are too deep in the woods to hike. I lost my other new bike on the freeway. Poor bike...rest in peace....actually...screw that bike..it scratched my Lexus.

I have that episode on the Unsolved Mysteries DVD box set...really interesting..
People bought land on the old cemetery and didnt know it was there, one family has a tree in ther yard that has 2 paint marks on it...this means there were 2 bodies buried there...so they started to dig to see if they were there....the first woman to dig got sick and had to stop...next a 28 yr old woman began to dig...she collapsed and died of a heart attack...weird...but interesting.....

Greetings,
For nearly two decades I have lived in the same block where those two graves were found. While it is rumored that the cemetery is located over a span of 15 acres, the graves have only been specifically found within a certain 500 ' x 500' block as proven by the cadaver dogs. The pics I have seen posted on the internet of the neighborhood and the specific house are definately inaccurate. What is so tragic is that the trees that marked these graves seem to be dying off or are being cleared by the current developer. However, these strange happenings (sightings of those buried and movement of objects) have not ceased which cause the residents of this neighborhood to keep to themselves...it is definately not a "Wisteria Lane". They figure if they talk little of it... that the curse will not happen to them. These "spirits" seem to pick and choose who will remain on "their" land....running off undesirables (there is alot on this). I guess my family is one who is accepted.
Last year, in the very house where those graves were found, one of the residents committed suicide, sadly without any warning. Eight years earlier, two doors away, the resident shot themself (fortunately lived but moved away). Numerous household pets have disappeared. The street lamp directly across from the house mentioned in the book & movie turns on and off frequently when I pass by during my evening walks. This street lamp has been checked several times. Certain spots in my yard will not grow anything despite my best efforts. The sink holes definately exist. Fifteen years ago, the water co. backhoe operator was digging up the sewerage line and was nearly electrocuted (although he was no where near that utility). I will not ever put a pool in my yard as respect to what already exists in the ground.
Perhaps there needs to be a follow up on this story...with more background on who is buried here....as I am very curious and would like to place markers if I can.
Thanks for your attention.

Hey sorry to bring up such an old post, but my grandma lives RIGHT down the street from it (in Newport neighborhood) and i was wondering if there is an address of the house out there so we can go see it. (Her house is in walking distance from the google marker that i found out about "the black hope horror")
Thanks in advance.

I live in this neighborhood and have never known of HPD (Houston Police Department) doing any kind of investigation. HPD isnt even jurisdiction in this area and probably could care less what happens in our suburban neighborhood. I believe your friend was wrong, as this is not a true account.
Sorry to disappoint.

Well the address is approximately 800 block of Poppets Way in Crosby, Newport Subdivision. It is rumored that this who little area, including the woods behind this area, is part of the buriel ground. This neighborhood is HUGE and except for this small circular area right off Poppets way, there is no other paranormal reportings. There is a water treatment facility right next to it along with lots of wooded area. It is again rumored that this wooded area has not been developed because of the activity reported in the 80's.
Hope that helps

On MSN maps you can see a very detailed arial photo of the neighborhood and it actually looks like excavated graves in some of the yards.

You think that's bad - in York, within the city walls, it is said that there have been over a million burials since Roman times.
There were cemeteries all over the city and eventually they had to be removed to outside the city walls because of infection and disease.
Historically, when the cemetaries were full, they just heaped more dirt on top and carried on burying...
Welcome to the UK's most haunted city...

Yup, this is true. I'm an ex-finds archaeologist. I used to spend my days cleaning all the stuff the diggers dug up - Including bodies. England is awash with unmarked burials and plague pits. They did used to, indeed just pile the graves up, sometimes 6 bodies high (seperate burials, more for mass graves) It has been known in the past that, after a especially heavy rain fall, some of the top soil has been washed away, and yes... bones exposed. They can be that shallow. I'm pretty sure that a lot of houses in Britain are built on a burial/burials, yet a lot of these places AREN'T haunted. I remember once, a couple of years ago we were called in (after the police), because some guy had been lowering his cellar floor and came across a bunch of bones. He wasn't haunted.
So is it the fact that the burials you talk about are Native American that is causing the supposed hauntings?
