Full Version: Are depression and possession related?

I've heard that depression or illness make one more susceptible to demonic posession. Is there any merit to that? Of course demonic posession itself might not really exist.

Also do you think interest/curiosity in the occult, paranormal, satan, and posession might make one a target for posession?

By the way I'm Dave and I'm new here.. love it so far!

There is probably some truth to that belief. Sickness and depression go hand and hand. According to many beliefs demons cause sickness and visa versa. Possession really exists but "demons" are nothing more than spirits that are too deranged to be reincarnated or travel to another plane so they have to find a body somewhere.

Hello skullduder and welcome. I think there might be a link to your theory as depression and illnesses weaken a persons aura and also drugs and alcohol abuse. Therefore a weakened aura or some with holes in it may attract lesser being. Although actual possession is rare spirit attachment can happen and is much more common. As there are beings that seem to feed off of negative emotions and fear and such. Like attracts like. Anyways. I hope that makes sense. Blessings, Jo

Hi welcome to um, I think that there is a real chance that this could happen. They weaker your mind is the weaker your soul, thus allowing demons to have a easier time controlling you. huh.gif

Oh, I hate to think that things feed off fear, because honestly, even though I'm quite fascinated in the paranormal it scares me.....

And I think it might make SOME sense... only such an evil being would take over a defenseless weakened being. >:(

I saw a post here that mentioned a ghost hunting case in which one of the members was temporarily possessed. The audio was quite chilling. The team came to the conclusion that she was tired and under stress thus an easy target.
here is some interesting audio of a 16 y/o Russian girl's exorcism, while we're on the topic

That's a pretty cool recording, but wether it's real or not is another story.

Yes, I believe that depression, extreme fear and/or stress can make it easier for negative things to come through and disturb someone.

That’s why when someone complains about a hunting or a possession, it’s always, in my opinion, important to check what the emotional state of the person is, and to push him towards positive and empowering thinking, be it going to church or performing a cleansing ritual or even painting ones room in a different color. Everything to bring someone’s sense of control back, and hopefully, some confidant and joy.

Generally a demon that possess someone does not want to wreak havok on them, or depress them at first, they want to make friends with them and gain there trust. Demons are known for there lie's, they will lie and tell you what you want to hear in your head, once you trust them, then they can make you believe what ever you want, making it much harder for you to let go of them and drive them out.

The demons become a bond inside most possessed victims, it tells you what to do, and that you should do what you want, but slowly starts taking over your mind. Demonic Possession is said to sometimes start very young and then progress over a number of years when the demon itself decides to start causing damage to the body. At this time, the demon itself is half the body, and can control when it wants to talk, or when the host wants to talk.

The possessed victim realizes this too late, and has given it's confidence to the Demon, and can no longer dis-agree or cast the demon out without the help of an exorcist. This is the general way that demonic possession starts. The Possessed victim now knows the pain and suffering, but can rarely talk without being told what to say, or how to express it. At this point most demons like to flaunt there powers and contiue to do bodily harm, speak in different languages, cause violent movement, and a variety of other abilities. If this goes on too long, the possessed victim may die from starvation, or a number of other attributing factors.

[attachmentid=17763]Hello Skulldugger,

Spirit attachment can cause depression and a lot of other Mental Health problems. Here is an interesting article written by a psychiatrist:

Whoops! Sorry about not getting your name right! Welcome anyways!

Does demon possesion happen often? And what do you mean by voices? As in... it sorta mixes itself with your concience or its like you can hear it? And I know that it lies but... If it says that its something holy like an angel or something... Is there a way to know if its true or not?
primordial
First comes the violation, where a negative spirit is invited through voluntary means, such as a satanic ritual, a OB, or through involuntary means, such as a curse or carry out of an unholy act.
The second stage is invasion, when the demons first disturb a person's house and repress' the individual(s) causing, like u say, depression.
The third stage is domination, when the spirits begin trying to take over the person(s) living in the house.
The final stage, after possession, is Death.

Most Demonic possession is never actually "invited", through the majority of wrong acts, Demons are said to be able to get in through wrong doings, and weak willed people. For instance, your at your friends house, he has a Video Game you really really want, but you know it's very bad to steal. Going against your own beliefs stealing the game, and opening yourself to evil can expose your body to demonic possession. This is why they say, people that don't beleive in God and the devil, don't much get possessed, because they don't really have a notion, for what is right from wrong, and some theologists believe, that they are what you call "Fully Possessed", because they don't need demonic possession to carry out there acts.

However primordial is very correct that demons can most defiently be brought in through invitation, and also, they can be invited by accident through weak willed, or mis-understanding people. Demons do lie, and once again they will tell you what you want to hear. For instance, things may change once possessed, taking the stealing scenerio, when overcome by evil your mind may change. You may tell yourself " I can steal the game, he has enough money to buy another one anyway."

There are many different cases of Demonic Possession, and all demons work different ways, however, they will lie, and also, try to mix the truth with a lie. For instance, they could say to a priest " Your mother is dead" , well, yes, I know this... " She rotts in hell with satan " , no, she really doesn't. Gotta know when to take the right with the wrong. Demonic Possession goes very deep, and there are many different kinds of Excorcism's. Depending on your religious faiths. Good books on this are " The Devils Hostage" by Father Malachi Martin, and the book Im currently reading, should be done in a day or two "Glimpses of the Devil : A Psychiatrist's Personal Accounts of Possession, Exorcism, and Redemption ".

I've heard the same that depression and fear can feed negative energies and makes you subsepticle(sp?) to possession and attacks. But I have also read about people who were happy in living their lives and because of negative energy in the home they become depressed and angry and at times even sick.
