Im sure we have all heard of ancient lost cities that are rumored to be in the Amazon jungle in very hard to reach places.

Now, lets say, in a few years Id want to go explore the amazon. Which places would i want to look into first? Then where are other places I should check out on my journey?

Where are some of the rumored sites supposed to have ancient structures?

All the information i can get would be helpful and im sure others would learn just as much as me.

So anyone with any theories or suggestions, id love to hear them!

Thanks

Start at Tres Fronteras. You won't find anything, but it might satiate your desire to visit the Amazons.

oh and some water, don't forget the water, you don't want to be going near any of the rivers in that area

...and bug spray. You'll need lots and lots of bug spray.

If your gonna go you might as well go for the gusto. Hit the Mato Grosso region and find Fawcett's lost city.

Teddy Rosevelt (did I spell that right...no time) He went to the Amazon and I think only a few of them returned...He died later in his sleep. They say he was very introspective after coming back. Like he saw something...

Oh, wow. I wonder what he saw...or how the others didn't make it...Im gonna see what I can find. If anyone knows more, Id like to hear it! original.gif

The Amazon rainforest is a stunning place. Walking through it gives you a very clear picture of how little we ultimately amount to in the natural order of things. I have little doubt that it was the sheer power of the forest that gave Teddy, the seasoned adventurer, a new found sense of humility.

Yup, you are correct.

There is a good telling of his trip here...

The link above leaves out the bit about the gent who went mad and killed a party member before vanishing into the jungle.

Whoa! I just found Roosevelt's own account of his trip. Ya can read the whole thing in his own words at the link below. (Hopefully someone besides me will think this is very cool.) grin2.gif

You might want to read the works of Colonel Percy Fawcett (available on Amazon). He spent alot of time in the jungle surveying boarders and looking for lost cities. Before his last trip in 1925 he claimed to know the location of a city he called "Z", but unfortunately he disappeared.

Are you speaking of the lost city of no return. Which is a myth about a city of gold hid deep in the Amazon. hmm.gif

Is this El Dorado you are trying to look for? Pretty sure it doesn't exist... the Incas wouldn't let us know anyway. Or was it the Aztecs?

Im just sure there are cities still to be found in the amazon...

lucky for me I lived in Ecuador 10 years and went there often! grin2.gif
