Walken
Only moments ago I posted on this forum and to my friend Jack an estimated UK price for the long-awaited new console, and the first of the next generation of cutting edge gaming software. I am, of course, referring to the Xbox 360.

My estimation was based on a direct transfer of funds from the USA dollar to the UK pound. It totaled that we would be paying around £165 for the core system and £220 for the Advanced system.

How wrong I was. no.gif

Pursuiting this link, given to me by my good friend Jack, I saw the UK release prices in the flesh. And how unfair they were.

Xbox 360 UK launch prices

It is becoming painfully clear that the UK is being cheated by the gaming industry, and this is just one example.

Put it this way, if you convert all world currencey to the British pound, we are paying £55 more for the core system, and £60 more for the advanced system than our American counterparts.

And I wish I could shrug this off as just a stand alone case, or a crime only Microsoft is guilty of, but Jack provided me with another recent example where Sony was the evil-do-er..

Europe always gets the bum rap with electronics. For instance, the PSP. Launch cost of the PSP in Japan - 19,800 yen (£98). Launch cost of the PSP in USA - $249 (£132). Launch cost of the PSP in Europe - £180. We are paying almost twice as much as the Japanese are paying for theirs.

Is this really fair?

This has always been the case though, I import DVDs from the US all the time, and despite P&P and import costs they cost the same as UK DVDs. So imagine if they didn't have P&P and fees.... although this rule doesn't carry to Play.com who are really really cheap. huh.gif
BurnSide
This isn't really new. All systems seem to cost alot more in the UK. Especially Xbox systems.
Maybe shipping costs more, i don't know. Is it fair? Of course not. What can you do about it? Absolutely nothing.

Nah its because we're more capitalist than socialist Europe (where everything is cheap) but not as capitalist as the US (where big companies are constantly lowering prices to compete with each other).
BurnSide
I see.
Well, sucks for you guys. Sorry. laugh.gif
Walken
Meh....There are no games on the initial xbox line up that I'm desperate to play. I may as well wait til the January sales.
BurnSide
I can almost garantee there will be sharp drops in the price right after christmas, don't worry. They'll want it to be easily affordable for when PS3 comes out, especially since PS3 will cost a small goldmine for you guys.

Always wait for the January sales tongue.gif

How much does the "full" 360 cost in Euros? If it costs 399 Euros, then that is about $532! crying.gif

The PSP had two bundles in japan. One was just the system and cost $200, the other had Spiderman 2 and an AC adpter and cost $250 ($50 is too much for just a copy of Spiderman 2!). But Europe still pays about $56 more than we do.

No, there won't.

Halo 3's release date is in line of the second wave, so expect it to hit our screens about the same time as the PS3.
