I think so because I find a little similarity between Rock and Metal. (some) people who listen to rock also like rap. But it went to opposite with metal, I just kinda find that strange.

I used to be a former rap listener in my earlier years, I saw the light and put that filth behind me. A friend and I came to a conclusion similar to this, rap music is making a generation of kids angry all the time. Its all ballas and b*****s. Its a shame, a damn shame really. I wouldnt mind if things were like the earlier rap, but everythings stupid and the same now. The rap fad died out I'd say, now the kids are all faggy wimp goth kids. Chef said it best when he said "Last year you kids were all trying to be black, now youre all trying to be gay."

I couldn't agree any less, Seeking. The 'ballas and b*****s' thing they keep labeling 'rap' with, is only partially correct...everytime. Well, we all feel the same way about mainstream music...I guess thats a plus. But sometimes artists aren't sell-outs, or in the mainstream bizz because they want money, its because they want to make music...and money. Everyone wants money.
The mainstream artists we know today were hooked to their guitar, drums, pen/pencil and paper since they were probably 8 years old, now thats wanting to make music. But since money took over them, is more like 50% making money, 25% fame, and 25% music.

Heh, the name of the thread is "Is rap corrupting America?"
~~~~
So we've been off topic for a bit, it happens.
One of the definitions for corrupting is "to change the original form of", so in that sense, yes, rap has changed America. Not necessarily for the better, not for the worse. I do think that we'd be a little better off in some stuff without it as well, but the same thing goes for all other types of music.
I'm from the snowy North, the Scandinavia. Here, we have Black Metal. For you who don't know about about darker metal-music, it's fast, hard, harsh and dark.
This was also a topic for discussion in the medias before. Then (the 1990s), it was about "are Satanic lyrics and other tendencies corrupting youngsters"?
(I listen to both Black and Death metal, just for mentioning, not only but most. I like Enya too.)
To compare with this "is Rap corrupting America"-topic is very interesting.
Personally, I think the Rap music and the lifestyle propagated is taken seriously by its listeners;
in the hiphopworld, women are "b*****s", everybody has "bling-bling", guns are cool...
No one of my numerous friends who listen to violent metal music actually burn churches, drink blood and worship Satan.
