Do you have any irrational fears?

Some of mine are: Mirrors in the dark, dolls, open closets at night, and rats.

Don't be shy; share yours here!
ColonelJ
I don't like mirrors in the dark or open closets (especially if it's just barely cracked). I don't mind rats, because I have a hamster (well, that's not techinicaly a rat, but close).

Most of my fears center around big things. I always got creeped out whenever we had to wash the car at a carwash with a HUGE cell tower right next to it. I was paranoid it would fall and kill us. XD

Probably my most irrational fear is dinosaurs. tongue.gif Jurassic Park has always given me nightmares about t-rex dinos and veloceraptors chasing me. ohmy.gif

Sometimes I can't open the door to my room in... well you could call it fear..... I'm not scared, but I just can't physically open it blink.gif
Has something to do with a dream....

I feel stupid... unsure.gif hmm.gif

spiders. oh and the dark, after seeing previews for the exorcists, and mov ies like that, im afraid demons live in my closet, and are just waiting for me to look at them like in constantine.

* Failing in what I care about.

* I have a thing about these spiders around here. Bloody things will DIE!

* I'm a little uneasy at doctors, they make me twitchy.

* In some ways, I can almost fear myself. I am my greatest enemy. I seem to always change in some small way or as I learn more change values and thoughts. If anything I've made some points of time a living hell for myself just by thinking. hmm.gif

I used be insanly afraid heights... Till I forced myself to get over it. Climbed a tower over looking a cliff at a state park around here on my own. I felt foolish fearing heights.

Used to fear death, to a point I think I am more curious about what happens now then "o, hell man... death!" I now see it as a natural way of a mortal's life and we all must face it sooner or later.

When I was little, I used to fear hell... till I stopped believing in 5th/6th grade. Opened my eyes a lot and looked around. Combined with the internet and some happenings in my life, I am what you get today. ph34r.gif

The biggest fear for me is SPIDERS.. I hate em.. The creepy crawly sneak up from behind, eewwwww. I got chills just thinking about them. I got bit when I was a kid and since then I have had a fear of them.

Other than that, the ocean scares me sometimes. If I let myself get worked up, my mind really messes with me. See one too many Jaws movies.
Tia
Heights and deep water.

Spiders I don't mind, live in the bush or mountains of Australia and you soon get use to creepy crawleys.
Purplos
Definately deep/dark water. Its just plain creepy.

Not scared of heights, spiders, snakes...
Paranoid Android
I have two irrational fears.

[1] - I hate standing on the edge of train platforms. I can stand at the edge of a cliff edge and look over at the four thousand foot drop and I enjoy the scenery. But put me on the edge of a four foot drop on a train platform and I crap my pants (well, not literally, but you know what I mean grin2.gif)

[2] - crickets. Those little buggers jump and....... they jump, you know. They just............ jump. I have nothing against spiders (I love them). It's just............... crickets blink.gif

Illogical fears, eh. Oh well, I guess they don't call them irrational for no reason.

I also have a thing with my closets being open at night. I can't sleep if they're open, I absolutely HAVE to close them.

And I'm not fond of mirrors in the dark either. I only have one mirror in my bedroom, and it's positioned so that I can't see it from my bed.

My other irrational fear that has started recently is with getting my eyes poked out. I have no idea where this started, but I'm constantly worried around knifes and other sharp object around the house. I'm always putting them away very carefully.

I'm practically twitching at the thought right now.

Now: height, water, people:), darkness... portraits in the silent empty room.
But in childhood i have always been afraid of aliens... I even couldn't look at the stars at night.
And the most scary: in 6th grade I thought the end of the world will definitely soon come. I used to start crying in the middle of the sunny day, because the more beautiful life is, the more horrible will be the end... It was horrible to know, that people just DON'T BELIEVE in this, they just cant imagine this could be truth. But I could, I FELT this.
Later I lost this belief, thank heaven.
iac_tracker
robbers or something If i hear one little bump in the night which I always do because I live in apartments but I always have the fear of some dude knocking on my door and I open it and it's a robber ohmy.gif
BurnSide
Dead bugs/spiders.

*shivers*

They're not nice when they're alive either, but dead, ugh.
StalingradK
I hate dolls and life like statues... Ugh, I have had tons of nightmares of each crying.gif
Redneck
Clowns. Who knows what evil they are hiding behind that smile and makeup?

Oh yeah, I hate dolls too. They're pretty creepy.

Oh lord, what to pick from. You know when you're driving down the highway and a big semi passes you? Have you ever noticed the wheels? The metal part in the middle? (Sorry, I know nothing about vehicles) Anyway, I'm scared those things are going to fly off and come through my window at 80 mph and kill me.

Also, my hands and wrists have to be covered before I can go to sleep. Don't want a killer coming along and slashing my wrists in the middle of the night. Cause you know that's the only reason they'd break into the house. rolleyes.gif
MichaelS
Bats... *shudder*... too many experiences with them.

Not afraid of dying- but dying alone scares the heck out of me.

Water over my head when I can touch bottom.

Close-up pictures of bug's eyes... *shudder*

Ladders. I can hang out of a helicopter, climb trees, walk on a roof, rappel down a cliff, and climb back up... but I can't stand climbing ladders.

jpalz
I'm scared of buses when I'm driving... driving usually relaxes me (Ipod saves the day), but whenever a bus gets close to me I get nervous and move to the other lane. You know, bus drivers are really animals here. Without going any further, last week someone I know lost his wife AND daughter because a bus passed the red light and crashed- or better said, squashed- them. Fu·$%$

I'm afraid also of living my life absolutely alone. I mean, I see people around me, but will never listen to anything I'll say. Never. Scares me... Maybe that's what I would find in my own Silent Hill tongue.gif

hehe.

*knock knock*
'Hello?'
'Yeah, um... I'm here to rob you.'

tongue.gif

Sorry, I don't mean to make fun, but robbers usually don't hurt people. They do their best to go into a home undetected.

If someone were to knock on your door with the intention of hurting you, chances are you'll know him/her.
jpalz
Robbers usually don't hurt people... unless you start putting resistance.
Daughter of the Nine Moons
ewww...spiders. My stomach just clenches up at the thought of them.
Euphoric Deception
Complete silence, I just don't like being in a room where theres nothing going on because then I start to notice all the little sounds I never hear during the day and mistake them for the paranormal.

Going underwater. I've always had fear of being in water, sometimes in swimming pools, I'll be underwater looking into the distance and think a shark might pop out.

Bugs & Insects, I hate bugs. I never got used to them. I'll probably freak out if I get touched by a roach. tongue.gif
Corporal Cupcake
mimes. they are the most horrible thing ever. worse then spiders. just thinking about them makes my skin crawl. crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif
~*S.T.R.*~
Terrified of Crickets. Yes it sounds stupid but anything that jumps toward my face is not my friend.

Afraid of sleeping. Dont know why really I guess it is because of what i dream about while im asleep. Maybe the fear of never waking up.

I have vever been afraid of my closet. I dont even have a door on my closet so I guess its a good thing.

Im petrified of hights. If I dont have at least one foot on the ground I am not interested.

I am not afraid of the dark or venturing into unknown rooms. I love to explore scary stuff like that. I not afraid of grave yards either.

Megalomania
Actually, mimes usually have a painted smile on their lips...
So they can be straightfaced, but it looks like a smile tongue.gif
Corporal Cupcake

Another one. I thought I was the only one crying.gif

I'm the only person I've ever known with a fear of crickets (until now at least). My friends always pay me out big time on it.

Corporal Cupcake
^ you should see how much people make fun of me about being afraid of mimes. even my parents laugh at me crying.gif
MichaelS
At least your parents don't insist on you washing the high windows that you need a ladder to reach, and laugh because you're afraid of ladders...
ajagsfairy
I have a very unhealthy fear of spiders. Its bad i cant even sleep in my room if i know there is a spider in it i havent killed because i think it will get me when i am asleep and lay eggs in my skin. Dont ask me where that one came from but had it as long as i can remember. I also get freaked out by ceramic and porcilin dolls i hate them they r the devil. hmm.gif
Corporal Cupcake
nope. my parents just do stupid mime impersonations. nearly made me cry doing that once, and they still do it angry.gif angry.gif

I share your fear of open blinds. I also can't sleep if I have an arm or leg dangling off my bed in fear that someone would be grabbing my hand.
Falco Rex
I've always had this irrational fear that somewhere in the World right now; penguins are plotting my assassination..
Firien
For real? Penguins?
Falco Rex
Yep. I just don't trust those little SOB's..Always with the tuxedos...Anyone who can't go casual at least once in awhile is probably up to no good..
ajagsfairy

Hey I've heard stories where spiders go into peoples ears and lay eggs. dontgetit.gif laugh.gif
zombiepitt
clowns are probably the most freakiest thing to ever live on earth

i dont mind big spiders but when it comes to the daddy long legs (stick leg spider)
i freak, my ground floor toilet has loads of them last time i remember stepping foot in it was ages ago
i also dont like deep dark water i dont mind deep water where i can see the floor but if i cant i get shivers and everything ,once my mum took me really far out on a boat and i saw this huge thing swim underneath us i think thats what started it still dont know what it was kinda the size of a sperm whale i went on acruise once and looked over the railings to see dolphins once and never looked at the water for the whole journey
oh and the thought of someone behind me

and screamers and sabotage both the same thing i think huh.gif
Baku
Im scared of sharks, I just sh** my pants when I see one, even on tv blink.gif

Im also kinda scared of putting sugar in my thee, cuz I once putted sugar in my thee and a spider fell along in my thee. Also have had this with bee's and fly's, more then once. So now Im kinda scared of sugar, Im mean what will pop out the next time, a snake or something?
dunderhead
I can't think of any fears or phobia's..?

Does this make me subhuman or a zombie..? huh.gif
747400
I don't think any of my fears are really irrational; they're all based on what might happen or what has happened. I don't worry about the unknown so much as the known; I guess I kind of worry about things based on how likely they are to happen. So I'm not afraid of aliens or sharks because the likelihood of meeting them is relatively low; what i'm afraid of is of things happening to those close to me that I might be powerless to have any control over.
Ziggy Stardust
Ha! I really enjoyed reading these posts. It's facinating how we as humans are superior in terms of intelligence and creativity, but are still subject to silly and irrational fears - more so than the 'lesser' animals!

Another embarassing and untterly irrational fear I have is awaking in pitch darkness. My imagination goes haywire and I start to actually beleive there is a murderer stooped over me!

Pathetic, I know. blush.gif
